  Monsters and Christianity - monsters of Christianity (16th-18th centuries)

  Ce colloque, organisé à Lyon par Étienne Couriol (Laboratoire de recherche historique Rhône-Alpes-LARHRA) et Teresa Hiergeist (université d'Erlangen), avec le soutien de l'université Lyon III, du LARHRA et de la fondation allemande ALH, étudiera comment la figure du monstre est utilisée dans un cadre religieux dans l'Europe de l'époque moderne. Les intervenants seront français, suisses, allemands et argentins, en histoire, littérature et histoire de l'art.

  Individual and Collective Identities in New France

  In collaboration with Simon Fraser University and several religious orders who played a founding role in the history of Montreal, the Collectif d’Anthropologie et d’Histoire du Spirituel sous l’Ancien Régime (CAHSA) organizes an interdisciplinary conference on the interaction between individual and collective spiritualities in New France. The conference will take place in Montreal from October 13th-15th, 2016.

  The prince and conversion - political power and religious conversion III

  Pouvoir politique et conversion religieuse III

  Le colloque invite à étudier trois figures : le prince convertisseur, qui souhaite la conversion de ses sujets, ou l’impose ; le prince converti, dont la conversion s’articule avec les cadres politiques existants et peut se prolonger en projet de conversion de ses sujets ; le prince intégrateur qui, confronté aux conversions de ses sujets, doit trouver une solution à la disjonction entre l’unicité de l’allégeance politique et la diversité des confessions. Ce thème embrasse ainsi non seulement la conversion du prince, mais aussi l’attitude du prince envers la conversion, ouvrant sur l’ensemble des situations et des rapports politiques qui président à l’inscription de la conversion dans le corps public.  Centré sur la figure du « prince », il prend en compte la diversité des instances de pouvoir à différentes échelles.

  Theological Foundations of Modern Constitutional Theory: 16th-17th Centuries

  Fondements théologiques de la théorie constitutionnelle moderne : XVIe-XVIIe siècles

  This conference aims to assemble different studies laying bridges between modern constitutional theories and theology from the perspective of intellectual history. Though modernity of law and politics has been usually accounted in the context of Reformation, the paper-givers’ approaches to the question will not be restricted in any confessional perspective, Protestant or Catholic. For, whatever the word ‘theology’ may have connoted in the time of religious confrontations, theoretical attempts to legitimize human rights and political authority at those days can be regarded as part of the general current of philosophical investigations, in a new manner and with different foci than ever, into the concept of justice with reference to that of God.
