The Dominicans and the Making of Florentine Cultural Identity
Influences and Interactions between Santa Maria Novella and the Commune of Florence (1293-1313)
Florence, the celebrated city-republic, dominates the historiography of medieval Italy still today. Her glory and crises define the paradigm for investigating other medieval city-states. As attention to medieval cities has increased, so too the history of the Dominican Order has constituted a major field of study, since the Dominicans were at the forefront of the cultural and religious life of Medieval cities. This conference intends to analyse the reciprocal influences and interactions between the activities and works of this constellation of Dominican intellectuals and the making of Florentine cultural identity through the social and political events that consumed the public life of the Commune between 1293 and 1313.

Il sera notamment consacré aux villes italiennes de l’arrière et à leur vie culturelle, restée intense durant la Grande Guerre.

Im Zentrum der Untersuchungen über die Gesamtheit der von angevinischen Dynastien kontrollierten Territorien soll das Personal stehen, das für verschiedene Bereiche verantwortlich war : die zentralen Dienste, die Kanzlei, Gerichtshöfe, Rechnungskammer und Archive, oder aber den königlichen Rat oder die Palastintendanz, ebenso wie die Beamten der lokalen Höfe. Dabei interessieren uns die Herkunft, die Ausbildung, die Beziehungsgeflechte und die Karrieren dieses Personals ebenso wie die institutionelle Genese seiner Ämter und Aufgaben.

Italian Political Parties Facing Terrorism (1969-1988)
Italian political parties’ attitudes, roles, points of view, and reactions vis-à-vis stragismo, subversive plots, right-wing and left-wing terrorism will be under scrutiny, together with their impact on society and institutions. The Organizing Committee encourages studies that also examine minor political parties.The Organizing Committee invites scholars of different disciplines interested in the topic topropose papers on Italian political parties’ attitudes, roles, points of view, and reactions in front of:- stragismo and subversive plots against Italian Republic; origin, development, and social consensus of left-wing armed struggle; the main political changes of the period (e.g., the crisis of center-left governments, the 1974 referendum, the 1975 and 1976 elections, the governments of national solidarity, the end of the Christian-democratic centrality); the dangers of right-wing terrorism; the emergency legislation; the exit strategies from terrorism.

Ce colloque ambitionne de déterminer s’il existe, dans le domaine parlementaire, une spécificité méditerranéenne. Ces journées aborderont la culture et l’identité parlementaire méditerranéenne à travers le regard comparatiste et selon les angles de la prosopographie des élites politiques, de l’analyse des « moments » parlementaires majeurs et des études de cas régionales, dans le but d’aboutir à une cartographie des acteurs, des pratiques, des discours et des représentations. L’objectif est de réunir des spécialistes de différents domaines (historiens, civilisationnistes, historiens du droit, politologues, sociologues…).

Italy’s Decade of War: 1935-1945 in International Perspective
From the invasion of Abyssinia to the end of World War II, Italy experienced a decade of war. This conference aims to re-evaluate the history of the Italian experience during this ten-year period with a unifying perspective that places the Italian Fascist regime and its foreign and military enterprises in an entirely internationalised framework of analysis. It will bring an international focus upon the Italian role in the break-down of the international system and appeasement, and will analyse the consequences of Italian militarism on a global scale. It will explore comparative and transnational histories of the Italian occupations of France, the Balkans, Greece, and Albania, as well as the Allied occupation of Italy following the defeat.

Cette manifestation se propose de rassembler des contributions portant sur le rôle des consuls des différents États italiens pré-unitaires dans la diffusion, la réception et l’élaboration de modèles de l’appartenance collective au sein d’un monde italien qu’on considérera dans sa pleine acception, c’est-à-dire dans une péninsule italienne dont les limites sont floues, et au-delà dans tous ses prolongements diasporiques.
