Over a century of international cooperation
Cette rencontre s’inscrit dans l’année de célébration du centenaire des premières fouilles françaises sur le site emblématique de Baelo Claudia (Tarifa, Cadix). Le colloque entend mettre l’accent sur l'esprit de coopération scientifique internationale, notamment française et allemande, qui anime la recherche en péninsule Ibérique depuis la fin du XIXe siècle. La construction et la consolidation de l’archéologie péninsulaire seront examinées au prisme des relations internationales de 1880 à nos jours.

4th doctoral meeting of the École européenne de Protohistoire de Bibracte
The fourth doctoral meeting of the Ecole européenne de Protohistoire de Bibracte (EEPB) will be hold on the 12th-13th March 2018, at Bibracte – Centre archéologique européen (Bourgogne, France). This year, the meeting will benefit from the partnership of the Casa de Velázquez (Madrid). Since 2015, these Doctoral Meetings have the ambition to gather around similar issues PhD students and young Doctors working on the Bronze and Iron Age through the whole Europe.

Borders and space - issues of definition in the Spanish speaking world, 18th-19th century
Une des tendances récentes de l’historiographie consiste à considérer l’espace comme un biais de renouvellement des recherches sur la construction de l’État moderne et de la nation contemporaine. La réflexion sur les différentes configurations historiques de l’espace permet de déconstruire les schémas généraux de l’histoire des institutions, très fortement marqués par l’idéologie étatique, et de considérer l’histoire « locale » comme une part de l’histoire « globale ». Les historiens du droit sont particulièrement concernés par cette nouvelle perspective transnationale. Le monde hispanique offre des cas de figure de surcroît inhabituels pour le public français. Les trois intervenants de l’atelier-séminaire entrent tous dans cette perspective et parleront des modalités de configuration juridique des espaces politiques.

Il rapporto Chiesa e società nelle aree europee degli Imperi di Spagna e Portogallo e nell’America spagnola e portoghese intende gettare uno sguardo sullo sviluppo e sulle caratteristiche di questo variegato rapporto tanto nel Vecchio quanto nel Nuovo mondo. Particolare attenzione sarà attribuita alle fonti documentarie inedite o poco studiate in grado di aiutarci ad aprire nuovi percorsi di ricerca per capire la funzione pastorale ed evangelizzatrice della Chiesa, ma anche le luci e le ombre di un clero non sempre orientato al bene dei poveri. Sarà importante analizzare come la Chiesa, attraverso le sue strutture, si sia organizzata e radicata nella società sia in Europa sia in America Latina.

Desplazamientos epistémicos, identitarios y estéticos
Retomando los conceptos de José Luis Brea sobre una «epistemología política de la visualidad» que supone el campo ampliado de los estudios visuales, esta jornada de estudios internacional se propone poner en discusión la función del arte en la actualidad en relación a la separación radical y la separación relativa entre éste y la política, la ciencia, la comunicación, la posmedia, etc. La visualidad enunciada, frente a la visualidad aludida, negada, disfrazada o transgredida. Las relaciones entre lo visible y lo decible, los juegos de saber y poder, la postura decolonial (Mignolo y Quijano) que suponen todas las relaciones antes mencionadas, son algunos de los aspectos que conforman las discusiones sobre las políticas de la visualidad que nos interesa abordar tanto desde el terreno académico como desde el campo de la praxis artística.

Cette journée d’études entend étudier des œuvres cinématographiques et audiovisuelles de l’Amérique latine proposant des représentations des interactions entre le pouvoir et la liberté. Du fait de son enracinement dans les expériences quotidiennes de l’être humain, la création cinématographique et audiovisuelle produite dans cette région offre des éléments qui contribuent à une compréhension de ces notions complexes. Le pouvoir et la liberté sont des pratiques constitutives des relations interhumaines (historiques, politiques, économiques, culturelles, intimes, locales, globales…), dont la théorisation requiert d’instruments disciplinaires et méthodologiques variés.

Pensar la América prehispánica, ayer y hoy: Construcción de los saberes científicos y discursos políticos
Depuis le XIXe siècle, la passion occidentale pour l’Amérique et ses peuples, dans toute leur diversité, à la fois géographique et sociale, a donné lieu à de nombreuses investigations anthropologiques, faisant intervenir avec succès plusieurs disciplines complémentaires telles que l’archéologie, l’ethnologie, la biologie ou encore la linguistique. Toutefois, la construction du discours scientifique ne peut être menée hors de l’histoire contemporaine, et c’est ainsi que l’étude de l’Amérique préhispanique a longtemps traîné son lot d’exégèses politiques, religieuses ou philosophiques. Cette rencontre propose donc de porter un regard à la fois rétrospectif et critique sur la construction scientifique de l’archéologie américaniste et les courants de pensées extérieurs, politiques ou idéologiques, ayant joué un rôle dans la perception moderne du passé américain.

The next Journées Internationales de Sociologie du Travail in 2018, 50 years after this highly charged period of social criticism, provide the opportunity to question, on the one hand, the labour’s central role in social struggle, and, on the other, the transformation of the character of workplace struggles.

There is more to space than rocket science. Historians, diplomats, economists, law students, political scientists and sociologists have all contributed to our understanding of the space age and its impact on our societies over the past decades. Sixty years on from the placing of the first human-made object in orbit around Earth, space is now an integral part of our daily lives. Space science and technology are projects for the whole of humankind, reaching not only outside Earth’s atmosphere, but also beyond our Solar System. While the technological and scientific challenges of working, living and travelling in space motivate students to pursue such studies, the impact of space activities on our lives on Earth, on relations between nations and organisations, and our collective recent history, provides fertile ground for students and scholars in the humanities to take up space-related subjects.

Slave subjectivities in the Iberian Worlds (15th- 20th centuries)
Les récits de vies d'esclaves semblent beaucoup moins courants dans les mondes ibériques que, par exemple, anglo-américains. Ils sont pourtant une source de première importance pour comprendre les subjectivités des esclaves eux-mêmes. D'autres sources (archives de l'Inquisition, actes notariés, actes de manumission, etc.) peuvent parfois permettre de traquer cette voix des sans-voix. Ce colloque, organisé en commun par l'Instituto de ciências sociais (Lisbonne) et la Casa de Velázquez / École des hautes études hispaniques et ibériques (Madrid), voudrait permettre d'avancer dans l'étude de la vision des asservis, dans le cadre ibérique.

Frantz Fanon’s Legacy in the Literature and the Arts of the Americas
One-day conferences
It turns out to be an epistemological necessity to analyze the scope of Fanon’s thought and style in the cultural and artistic productions of the Americas, not only because of Fanon’s concern for the creation and defense of a national culture but also because of his obvious interest for literature and the care he devoted to the process of writing. The transdisciplinary approach of the two one-day conferences « Frantz Fanon’s Legacy in the Literature and the Arts of the Americas » will encompass all the countries and areas of the Americas and the Caribbean, whatever their languages. We also welcome papers on all kinds of art, ranging from literature to cinema, painting, songs and street art (as in Bogota for instance). We warmly welcome papers that will adopt a comparative approach between different geographical areas. Papers will preferably be written in French, but English and Spanish will be accepted.

Exclusion and social discipline in the Medieval city in Europe
14th international meetings of the Middle Ages in Nájera
In the late Middle Ages, exclusion became a basic instrument for urban governance, as it enabled lay and ecclesiastical leaders to maintain their control over urban dwellers on the basis of maintaining a certain social discipline and an “ordered” society. Thus, medieval urban society was defined as a community of values according to the ecclesiastical and secular legislation, and it was articulated as a political discourse, which was incorporated into the public sphere. The urban community had to adapt to a legal and ideological framework and to some parameters of behavior, in which exclusion from the community was a powerful communication tool of social discipline. Historians and Graduate students are encouraged to submit abstracts for research presentations or posters on topics related to “exclusion and social discipline in the Medieval European City”.

La Europa del sur (1800-1960)
Este coloquio pretende analizar las modalidades de difusión de las imágenes devocionales en el marco de la evolución de las prácticas religiosas en Europa en los siglos XIX y XX, cuyas repercusiones sociales y culturales en la Europa mediterránea fueron considerables, aunque aún poco exploradas por la historiografía contemporánea española. Para ello, este encuentro reúne a los principales especialistas europeos con el fin de ahondar en temas como el auge de las peregrinaciones; la producción industrial de imágenes piadosas y su circulación entre las clases populares; el fomento por la iglesia de nuevos cultos; la confrontación entre modernidad laica y devociones y ritos tradicionales o el vandalismo iconoclasta.

The contribution of the ergological approach and the works of Yves Schwartz
The ergological approach intends to the co-production of knowledge with the aim of transforming work and more generally the social life. As stated by the scientific project of the Workshop, “the ergological approach, in its history and in its issues, is a priori a subject of interest for everyone, each exploring in its own way the intricacies of human life, but also anyone who wants to think about its own activity and that of others, to reconsider the ways of doing and taking action, of opening new perspectives in ways of working, acting and living”. Yet this approach, which is particularly needed nowadays, is insufficiently known and sometimes considered complex. This is the state of play at the origin of this international workshop for which this call for papers is published.

Ce colloque propose une réflexion sur le rôle de l'art, de la littérature, du théâtre, du cinéma, de la philosophie dans un contexte de longue période de violence qui, par la suite, nécessite une étape de réflexion et de reconstruction, comme c'est le cas pour la Colombie. Aujourd'hui la Colombie est immergée dans un processus de paix qui met en questionnement l'histoire colombienne durant les dernières décennies ; une histoire qui nécessite d'être à nouveau écrite et pensée. De même, la place des artistes, des écrivains, des cinéastes, des théoriciens joue un rôle fondamental dans ce processus de remémoration. Quelles stratégies ont été employées pour révéler ces réalités fragmentaires ? Comment raconter cette histoire douloureuse et récente ? Les stratégies employées par les artistes et les romanciers colombiens permettent de révéler des réalités fragmentaires, mises en sourdine ou cachées. De même, le rôle de l'art, de la littérature, et du cinéma ou encore du théâtre est fondamental dans ce processus de réécriture de l'histoire récente de la Colombie.

Ethnographical restitution and children - policies, processes and postures
8th edition of the Les apports de l'anthropologie de l'enfance methodology seminar
La notion de restitution est ici entendue dans un sens large ; elle désigne aussi bien un dispositif conçu dès les débuts du terrain et qui vise à partager les fruits du travail effectué avec les acteurs que les échanges quotidiens, apparemment anodins, les « services » rendus par l’anthropologue durant et après le terrain ou encore les échanges matériels et immatériels entre les uns et les autres. Si la dimension politique de la restitution est incontournable, la réflexion à son sujet ne peut cependant s’y limiter. Il s’agit ici de décomposer, à partir d’expériences de terrain ethnographique dans lesquelles sont impliqués des enfants, ce qui constitue la restitution, ses différentes formes, ses temporalités, et ses effets au long cours, à la fois chez les acteurs et chez l’anthropologue.

Perception, reaction and record of natural phenomena before the Enlightenment
Issue no. 18 of the Journal of the History of Society and Culture will include a Special Section comprising papers dedicated to studying the perception, interpretation and record of natural phenomena in the periods preceding the consolidation of the modern scientific thinking. The goal is to explore how certain climatic, astronomical, seismological and vulcanological phenomena, among others, were experienced, explained and assessed prior to the development of technologies capable of predicting, monitoring and deciphering them. Attention must be given to the documents, accounts, representations (pictorial, sculptural, etc.) and remains (archaeological, architectural, urban, etc.) that inform us of eclipses and comets, storms and shipwrecks, volcanic eruptions, river floodings, gales, droughts and other phenomena which, directly or indirectly, left a mark on the populations and are part of their collective memory.

ICIQ3 - Third international conference on interpreting quality
ICIQ3, the third international conference on interpreting quality, will be held in the city of Granada, Spain, on 5, 6 and 7 October 2017. ICIQ3 is intended as a platform for fruitful dialogue on interpreting quality. It will bring together a variety of perspectives and promote exchange. The conference will address a number of topics, including, but not limited to the following: quality criteria in different interpreting settings, user expectations and needs, quality perception and quality measurement, quality assurance in the interpreting process, nonprofessional interpreting, method transfer across disciplines.
