Call for papers - Science studies
Dans le cadre de son séminaire scientifique, le Laboratoire Innovation formes architecture milieux (LIFAM), unité de recherche de l’École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Montpellier (ENSAM), organise une journée sur les thématiques du programme de recherche HUman at home projecT (HUT) auquel le LIFAM est associé en tant que membre du consortium. La « maison intelligente », l’espace architectural « connecté », l’« habiter », « augmenté », qui font actuellement l’objet d’une expérimentation « grandeur nature » au sein de l’appartement observatoire du projet HUT, nourrissent de nombreux espoirs, tout autant qu’ils alimentent de nombreuses angoisses. Rêve d’un lieu de vie qui obéirait au doigt et à l’œil (et à la parole) de son habitant, ou nouvelle aliénation, nouvelles addictions aux objets connectés ? L’Internet of things (IOT) connecte-t-il les personnes aux marques afin que les marques répondent aux besoins des personnes, ou pour que les personnes se plient aux besoins des marques ? Nouvelles libertés ou Big Brother 3.0 ?

Academic days on open government and digital issues
Since 2011, experiences of member countries of OGP have shown that, although civil society is largely associated with the process of open governments, the academic community has not been adequately consulted. It is important to emphasize that the university community must be part of the open government process. The concept of “Academic Days” was never experienced in previous events of the OGP. By hosting this event with IMODEV and University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, has been organized the first time a scientific congress dedicated to issues of open government, and willing bring together academics - regardless their disciplines - to enable the discussion of these issues through a scientific approach.

Paul Otlet and the protodigital humanities
Cette journée vise à faire le point sur l'œuvre de Paul Otlet afin de la resituer au sein du mouvement des humanités digitales. Paul Otlet en tant que théoricien de la documentation impulse des perspectives nouvelles en matière de systèmes d'information. Cela lui a valu une reconnaissance tardive et un intérêt renouvelé depuis que certains travaux américains en font de lui un précurseur du web voire de la société de l'information actuelle. La journée laisse place à plusieurs interventions autour de son œuvre, de l'intérêt de développer une histoire longue des humanités digitales et d'interroger les perspectives nouvelles qui pourraient être amorcées actuellement.

Science meets society roundtables at the University of Lyon
Le but de cette rencontre est de permettre aux enseignants-chercheurs, chercheurs et chercheuses, doctorant.e.s qui travaillent au sein des laboratoires de recherche de l’Université de Lyon d’exposer leurs recherches, de discuter de leurs orientations méthodologiques, de découvrir la variété de leurs productions scientifiques, de faire connaître leurs projets. Nous sommes convaincus que de telles rencontres permettront une meilleure connaissance des recherches en cours au sein de l’Université de Lyon, et favoriseront des synergies et des coopérations nouvelles dans les domaines de la recherche et de l’enseignement. Les rencontres sont centrées sur les relations entre sciences et société. Cet objet de recherche mérite d’être précisé, tant il est polymorphe et tant il est investi par des projets académiques et politiques variés. Les travaux visés sont ceux qui portent sur les façons dont les savoirs scientifiques sont élaborés,circulent, sont mobilisés et critiqués en société. De nombreuses disciplines des sciences sociales contribuent à ces analyses, à partir d’outillages méthodologiques et conceptuels variés (sociologie, droit, science politique, histoire, géographie, économie, linguistique, etc.).

Conflicts, practices, prospects
In light of recent attacks against the freedom of research, we seek to reassess and reflect on the right to this freedom today, in a global context. Taking into account the punctual, tendential or structural nature of the attacks against this right, we focus on its current situation, its personal and collective practices as well as the networks and associations supporting it, and its political prospects. We adopt an encompassing, grounds-up and agonistic understanding of the freedom of research, which includes forms of journalistic, artistic and civic inquiry as well as academic research, situating it in a web of social, political and economic interrelations, and stressing the importance of understanding it as a contested right and a tool in conflict rather than simply an entitlement supposedly guaranteed by any “non-authoritarian” State.

Serial crisis, sky-rocketing subscription prices as well as more and more widespread and powerful OA mandates have pushed many publishers to rethink the finance of publishing the journals. Considering a switch calls out numerous challenges but it is a path more and more travelled – and importantly so an economically – sustainable and one with long-term benefits – not only for readers, but also for authors and the journal owners, too. In 2014 De Gruyter converted 14 journals to OA – this webinar looks at overarching strategies for journal transition from subs to OA – including current OA publishing landscape and single factors (like managing submissions, citations and funding) that play a role during the process. Is it worth it? Who will foot the bill? What to expect? And how to bring the EAB on board? The introductory one-hour webinar is built around three sections to allow participants to work out the flipping strategy for their publication and to timely and reasonably plan the change.

Le déploiement des objets et usages numériques dans notre vie affecte notre humanité. Face à ces mutations, est-il possible d’élaborer un cadre favorisant l’émergence d’un humanisme numérique ?

Training school
This training school provides participants with insights into the theories and practices of stimulating impact creation from social sciences and humanities research. It will focuses on three specific dimensions. Firstly, creating a conceptual understanding on the specificities of social sciences and humanities (SSH) impact and non-linear impact models. Secondly, alternative appropriate policy frameworks for maximising SSH impact. Finally, we will explore ways of supporting scholarly practices to optimise the creation of impact through SSH research, and capturing this with evaluation systems.

Open Access and how it reveals local synergies
Le mouvement de l’Open Access ne cesse de progresser et se concrétise par la mise en place de projets issus d’initiatives locales, depuis le moment de la production des données de la recherche jusqu’à la publication, la valorisation et l’évaluation de ses résultats. Cette journée a pour objet de replacer l’Open Access dans un contexte général et de présenter des exemples d’initiatives menées à Lyon, Bordeaux et Toulouse. Plusieurs ateliers seront proposés autour de projets de collaborations (dépôt simplifié, soutien à la création de revues, bibliométrie au service de l’Open Access).

L’Institut national du cancer (INCa) vient de publier l’appel à projets libres annuel de recherches sur le cancer en sciences humaines et sociales, épidémiologie et santé publique. La place des sciences humaines et sociales, de l’épidémiologie et de la santé publique (SHS-E-SP) dans la recherche sur le cancer a été confirmée par le plan cancer 2014-2019. Plusieurs mesures stratégiques du plan adossent leurs objectifs aux progrès qui doivent être apportés par la recherche en SHS-E-SP.

143rd national conference of historical and academic societies
Chaque année, le Congrès national des sociétés historiques et scientifiques, lieu de ren- contre et d’échange unique dans le paysage de la recherche française, rassemble environ cinq cents participants parmi lesquels des universitaires issus de très nombreuses disciplines : histoire, géographie, sciences, ethnologie, anthropologie, préhistoire et protohistoire, archéologie, philologie, histoire de l'art, environnement, etc. Il accueille également des jeunes chercheurs (dont c’est parfois la première intervention publique) et des érudits locaux membres de sociétés savantes. La confrontation des regards, des expériences et des approches méthodologiques explique la singularité du congrès du CTHS. Cet événement de grande ampleur a lieu chaque année dans une ville différente.

Elle s’adresse donc aux spécialistes des sciences humaines, des sciences sociales et des disciplines liées aux technologies de l’information, ainsi qu’à tous ceux qui se sentent concernés par les transformations numériques des savoirs.

Models, data and algorithms in and for governance
Computation, be it based on statistical modeling or newest techniques of predictive analytics, holds the promise to be able to anticipate and act infallibly on futures and uncertain situations more generally. That the future is an object of governmental knowledge and action is nothing new though. What is the characteristic of today’s relationship with futures in policy making and action? To what extent do the means of computation, from statistical models to learning algorithms employed in predictive analytics change this relationship, and the collective capacity and legitimacy to engage with future, uncertain situations? How do technologies of prediction change policies? Who predicts, how, and with what effects on decisions and administration and on their politics? More generally, how do ways of predicting institutionalize, fail to do so or change?

“History in Africa” Journal
This featured section of History in Africa will address the wave of digitisation of archives in Africa over the last fifteen years. With the rise of information technologies, an increasing part of public – and to some extent private - African archives are being digitised and made accessible on the internet. This wave of digitisation is usually seen as a progress with the help of ambitious initiatives applying new technologies to cultural heritage of humanity such as the rescue of the manuscripts of Timbuktu or the Endangered Archives programme at the British Library. Yet as much as these new technologies raise enthusiasm, they also prompt discussions amongst researchers and archivists, which go from intellectual property to sovereignty and governance.

Mega-data in the social sciences
The Brexit, Donald Trump’s election, and the alleged interference of Russian hackers mark a turning point in the relationship between the Internet and social science research. The failure of media, analysts and opinion polls to predict the outcome of two crucial democratic consultations is challenging the research methods used since the end of the Second World War. Between the researcher and the data he/she collects there is a space of indeterminacy where suspicion looms. On the one hand, it’s said that we’ve entered the era of electronic democracy: the citizens express themselves freely in the international media. On the other hand, one becomes aware that a certain part of the contents accessible on the Web are actually produced by software; the data would tell us nothing about citizens’ opinions and sentiments.

La question des temporalités concerne à la fois l’évolution des réseaux comme structures sociales, l’évolution des entités qui les composent, et celle des relations (moments d’émergence, de renforcement ou d’affaiblissement, d’interconnexions, et éventuellement de rupture des liens). Comment évoluent des systèmes relationnels ? Comment rendre compte des dynamiques complexes qui les animent ?
