  Web of knowledge – A look into the past, embracing the future

  The congress aims to bring together researchers and scientists from different backgrounds intersecting with the social sciences revealing the visible and invisible networks. By fostering the exchange of knowledge and experiences in the study of the past, the congress expects to lay the framework for the present day science on which to map the future web of knowledge. This congress intends to meditate on science, and to understand how it is being constructed nowadays. Our focus is to approach questions such as: How do we do/communicate science, immediate science, open access, intellectual property, bioethics, cultural heritage, among others.

  Garden and melancholy in Europe between the XVIIIth century and the contemporary era

  The research group ERLIS (EA 4254, University of Caen) is preparing a collective work on the theme "Garden and melancholy in Europe between the eighteenth century and the contemporary era". The publication will take the form of a special issue of the electronic journal Cultural History of Europe, scheduled for autumn 2018.

Dans leurs procédures, elles s’appliquent à maîtriser, à conquérir, à capturer et entretiennent un lien fondamental avec la mort. Cette journée veillera donc à aborder un large spectre de représentations des territoires confrontés aux guerres passées et actuelles qui s’offrent comme de multiples terrains d’études, qu’investissent très largement les artistes.

  New research on the History of Chinese gardens and landscapes

  Organised by Dr Jan Woudstra in conjunction with the Gardens Trust, the event will look at new discoveries in the field from both professionals and post-graduate students from around the world. Dr Alison Hardie will introduce the conference and outline the importance that Maggie Keswick’s 1978 book The Chinese Garden, History Art and Architecture has played in the subject. It is a unique opportunity to hear speakers from UK and International institutions to present their new research in the field. Talks will cover subjects as wide-ranging as Jesuit water landscapes, gardens as museums, Feng Shui symbolism and botanical watercolours.

  Circulation and the revival of knowledge in nature and the environment in France and Germany

  Towards enviromental humanities

  À travers une mise en regard épistémologique et pluridisciplinaire – associant les lettres et les sciences humaines et sociales –, il s’agit de se demander pourquoi l’on vient à parler d’humanités environnementales, dans quels contextes, à propos de quels objets et quels modes d’analyse, et ce alors même que l’énoncé n’est pas complètement stabilisé : questionner la construction de ce champ dans les contextes nationaux français et allemand est riche de sens, d’autant que l’on sait les deux « traditions nationales » des rapports à la nature souvent présentées comme clivées (schématiquement, la filiation des Lumières en France, celle du Romantisme en Allemagne), alors que les processus historiques ont été plus complexes.

  From furrow to skyline - lines and landscapes

  Global views of the landscape

  Les départements d’histoire de l’art et de géographie de l’université Rennes 2 organisent un colloque interdisciplinaire autour des lignes et des figures géométriques qui s’inscrivent dans les paysages naturels et anthropiques. Il s’agira d’appréhender les paysages selon leurs structurations rythmiques en lignes et en figures afin de croiser différentes conceptions du paysage d’une part, et d’interroger notre aptitude à reconnaître et à identifier un paysage d’autre part. De ces rencontres, ce colloque espère dégager la possibilité d’esquisser une théorie commune du paysage.
