Depuis les années 1970, de nombreuses études ont éclairé d'un jour nouveau, par des approches biographiques, institutionnelles, stylistiques ou typologiques, l'architecture du XIXe siècle, restée jusqu’à alors en grande partie méconnue. Aujourd'hui la question de la culture de l'architecture permet à nouveau de reconsidérer l'architecture du XIXe siècle : comment la culture visuelle de l'architecte du XIXe siècle a-t-elle pu influencer ses conceptions architecturales ? A l'inverse, de quelle façon les représentations architecturales ont-elles permis à un large public d'appréhender les édifices du passé et du présent ?

Ce séminaire, examine, en longue durée, les liens entre les arts et le corps : comment les artistes, autant que les artisans – et l’on entend particulièrement les plasticiens-designers et les musiciens – sont conditionnés et conditionnent les catégories et modèles d’objets qu’ils imaginent et fabriquent, en fonction de la plasticité des corps ? De quelles manières, selon quels échéanciers et à partir de quels schémas économiques sont produits, édités, diffusés des séries de mobiliers et des corpus d’instruments qui répondent, à la jointure du beau et de l’utile, à une exigence artistique, un canon esthétique et un confort social soumis à des variables politiques, culturelles et générationnelles ?

Se l’importanza di Agostino per alcuni autori trecenteschi italiani è fatto auto-evidente, basti pensare a Francesco Petrarca che lo scelse come suo inquisitore e guida spirituale nel Secretum, la lunga durata di questa influenza nel corso del secolo è ancora in gran parte da esplorare, a partire dal caso più contestato, quello di Dante Alighieri. Parallelamente questo convegno s’interesserà al modo in cui l’attività dei membri dell’OESA ha plasmato la vita culturale peninsulare nel corso del secolo e contribuirà a rimettere in questione le categorie storiografiche di agostinismo e anti-agostinismo.

This international conference will discuss interdisciplinary questions regarding the importance of cathedrals and mosques in the definition of memory and urban landscape in the medieval Mediterranean from the twelfth to the fourteenth centuries. Our research aims at analysing the role these two buildings played in configuring the urban fabric of the Mediterranean world. One of our primary objectives is to understand how these buildings defined medieval landscape and urban space. How did they modify and condition the social and functional organisation of their urban surroundings? What architectural features contributed to their place in civic memory (decoration, architectural style and building techniques)? We are interested in the place they occupy in their cities’ urban planning and topography.

Les commémorations demeurent en France un sujet peu exploré dans les études consacrées au XIXe siècle. L’état des lieux de la recherche reflète cette situation en regard des pays anglo-saxons où les travaux sur le sujet abondent dans le domaine des cultural memory studies, de l’histoire culturelle et des études littéraires. En France, c’est principalement sous l’angle du monument, de l’historiographie et dans des monographies ponctuelles qu’est abordé le sujet.

Ce colloque international est co-organisé par l'Institut des sciences et techniques de l'Antiquité (ISTA) et par le Centre Lucien Febvre (CLF) de l’université de Franche-Comté en partenariat avec la ville de Besançon à l'occasion du 500e anniversaire de la naissance d'Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle (1517-1586). Il a pour objet de célébrer la culture classique et humaniste de cet homme d’État de tout premier plan et grand prélat, qui fut un fidèle serviteur de l'empereur Charles Quint puis de son fils le roi d'Espagne Philippe II, ainsi que celle de sa famille.

"Si on chantait ! La La La La…" exhibition
Song, source and narration in history
Peu abordée par les historiens la chanson dans toutes ses dimensions - individuelle, collective, populaire, savante, politique, emblématique, régionale ou mondialisée, écoutée, fredonnée ou chantée à pleine voix, a capella ou accompagnée, appartient à la vie des sociétés dont elle écrit aussi l’histoire. Ce sont ces dimensions, musicales, sociales, politiques et culturelles qui seront abordées dans deux journées d’études organisées conjointement par le LARHRA- UMR 5190 (Pôle images, sons, mémoire) et le Musée Dauphinois, autour de l’exposition Si on chantait ! La La La La. À partir d’entrées spécifiques et de l’exposition et de différents exemples, sera analysée la place de la chanson et des chansons comme source et récit pour et sur l’histoire des sociétés contemporaines.

L’étude de l’amplificatio s’inscrit dans les recherches menées sur l’abbreviatio, et sur lequel le CEMA a travaillé (Faire court, l’esthétique de la brièveté) ; elle ne les recoupe cependant que très partiellement comme le pendant inverse, car elle ne mobilise pas les mêmes pratiques ni ne ressortit aux mêmes desseins idéologiques. Elle prolonge également les réflexions sur le vers et la prose, le choix de l’une ou de l’autre forme pouvant se justifier par la possibilité d’ouvrir les vannes du texte, de l’aventure, de l’histoire, du savoir, de la morale, de la performance théâtrale, ou de déployer un discours lyrique renouvelé.

Through what kinds of narrations, symbols and images do the performing arts represent Europe today? How do the different conceptions of Europe coexist on stage? Does the artistic confrontation with Europe and its boundaries contribute to a redefinition of this “territory” or “space”? Is the mediation of European issues via the theatre able to reinforce political consciousness? Can it become the starting point for a new form of social cohesion? What kind of linguistic policy can best respond to the needs of the performing arts? How can we approach the special challenge of multilingual theatre? What are the resemblances and what are the differences between the scientific and the artistic approaches to the broad field that is “Europe”? What could be the modes of cooperation between artists and academics in terms of research, of teaching and transmission at a European level? What are the perspectives for such methodological dialogue?

Radiohead’s musical, cultural, and political legacies
Following a symposium held at Rennes 2 University last may, further contributions (in English or French) are now sought in order to publish a wide-ranging, peer-reviewed collection of articles appraising OK Computer’s musical, cultural and political legacy twenty years after its release. The aim of this publication is to bring together contributions from scholars who wish to confront Radiohead’s work with their own disciplinary methodologies, including (but not limited to) musicology, sociology, art history, political science, literature, cultural studies or even economics.

Fresh perspectives on heritage appropriation in Europe during the French Revolution
Régulièrement réapparaît çà et là une remise en question des notions de sécularisation et de décontextualisation des œuvres d’art qui ont présidé à la création, dans la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle, des musées modernes. Cette remise en cause conduit à considérer, dans la foulée de Quatremère de Quincy, que l’œuvre d’art ne peut être appréciée que dans son contexte d’origine. D’où le risque de vouloir réécrire notre passé en reconsidérant les transferts patrimoniaux qui ont, de tous temps, jalonné l’histoire. Dans la foulée de l’inventaire scientifique que dresse l’IRPA des peintures et des sculptures spoliées par les révolutionnaires français dans les Pays-Bas autrichiens et la principauté épiscopale de Liège, un colloque de deux jours sera organisé par la même institution pour réévaluer de la manière la plus large les circonstances historiques, politiques et artistiques de ces prélèvements révolutionnaires à travers l’Europe, ainsi que leurs antécédents et répercussions immédiats.

Mais il reste encore bien des lacunes à combler : si les chantiers majeurs sont désormais bien identifiés, certaines zones restent à l’écart des études ; les phénomènes de transferts artistiques sont encore imparfaitement compris pour le XVe et le début du XVIe siècle dans la région ; les rôles des commanditaires – noblesse, clergé, paroisses – et leurs relations avec les artistes et les artisans demandent encore à être précisés.

Dissonance, eclecticism and the fusion of genres in modern and contemporary English-speaking culture
L’objet de cette journée d’études est d’interroger les possibilités ouvertes par la sociologie culturelle - notamment les concepts d'omnivorisme, d'éclectisme, de dissonance - aux autres disciplines, notamment celles (civilisation, littérature, histoire) traditionnellement attachées à des aires culturelles (anglophone notamment) et plus ouvertes au syncrétisme théorique que la sociologie. La problématique du mélange des genres constitue-elle une approche permettant d’appréhender la culture dans son ensemble ? C’est ce que nous nous proposons de déplier pendant cette journée d’études, en s’attachant à la fois au point de vue des consommateurs, des créateurs et des créations culturelles.

Comparative approaches to the history and historiography of Spanish art in France
S’inscrivant au sein du programme d’activités organisées dans le cadre du centenaire de l’Institut d’Études Hispaniques, cette rencontre scientifique a pour but d’engager une réflexion sur le sujet peu étudié de la fortune de l’art espagnol en France. Il s’agira en particulier de questionner les modalités de cristallisation des transferts artistiques entre la France et l’Espagne, l’histoire du goût pour l’Espagne et l’art espagnol depuis la France, le collectionnisme français d’art espagnol et l’histoire de l’historiographie hispaniste française. Grâce à la contribution de spécialistes reconnus, nous souhaitons ainsi encourager l’intérêt pour les études en histoire de l’art espagnol dans le milieu académique français, un intérêt étroitement lié à l’action de l’Institut d’études hispaniques qui jouit d’un grand prestige international qu’il convient aujourd’hui de rappeler et relancer.

The international and interdisciplinary symposium "Dance and Nations: identities, alterities, boundaries" is a scientific meeting organized within the framework of the of the HdD (Hermeneutics of Dance research program, directed by Arianna Fabbricatore),. Il brings together a team of scholars to question how theatrical dance evolves in the European social and cultural space. Its purpose is to discuss the different aspects related to the circulation of dance in Europe and to open up research on the semiotic, political and social issues of dance as a sign, expression or representation of the permeable bounderies between cultural identities.
