  Mapping Ancient Gods

  ERC Advanced Grant MAP project (Mapping Ancient Polytheisms. Cult Epithets as an Interface between Religious Systems and Human Agency)

  The ERC Advanced Grant MAP project (Mapping Ancient Polytheisms. Cult Epithets as an Interface between Religious Systems and Human Agency; 741182; http://map-polytheisms.huma-num.fr1) works on the naming systems for the divine in the Greek and Western Semitic worlds, from 1000 BCE to 400 CE and views them as testimonies to the way in which divine powers are constructed, arranged and involved within ritual. The analysis deals both with the structural aspects of the religious systems and with their contextual appropriation by social participants. Considered to be elements of a complex language, the onomastic channels are related to the gods, therefore providing access to a mapping process of the divine, to its ways of representation and to the communication strategies between men and gods.Within this framework, the MAP Team proposes a Summer School in collaboration with the French Research Centre in Jerusalem (http://www.crfj.org) which covers the project’s themes and tools.

  Outils et méthodes pour l'histoire des églises entre Orient et Occident (Ve-XIXe siècle)

  Cet atelier doctoral permettra de mettre en rapport des historiographies séparées alors même qu’elles partagent un objet central et fort, l’Église, qui n’est souvent traitée que comme une toile de fond de l’histoire. Les participant-e-s qui prendront part à cette école auront l’opportunité de voir réunies des approches diverses et complémentaires : sociale, normative, liturgique, politique, orientaliste. Les participant-e-s auront accès aux méthodes, aux problématisations et aux derniers acquis de ces différentes approches interdisciplinaires dans la longue durée.

  École thématique en épigraphie médiévale

  Le Centre d’études supérieures de civilisation médiévale organise du lundi 28 mai au vendredi 1^er juin 2018 une école thématique CNRS consacrée aux inscriptions médiévales. Elle entend fournir une formation théorique et pratique de haut niveau en épigraphie permettant le recensement, la lecture, l’exploitation et la conservation des inscriptions tracées sur pierre, bois ou métal au cours du Moyen Âge.
