  Cartography on a large scale in Europe in the Middle Ages and Enlightenment - forms, actors and practices

  À l'occasion de l'exposition aux Archives Nationales montrant une centaine de cartes locales datées d'entre 1300 et 1600, ce colloque a pour vocation d'approfondir la réflexion collective entamée sur ce corpus et de lui donner une résonnance internationale. La confection de plans ou de cartes à grande échelle (montrant des espaces de dimension restreinte) est repérable dès le haut Moyen Âge, mais leur nombre croît considérablement au XV^e et au XVI^e siècle, quand ils deviennent un instrument courant de résolution des conflits ou d'administration urbaine, et ce dans toute l'Europe.

  The entrepreneurs of knowledge. From Paul Otlet to the new digital utopias

  Imaginé au XIX^e siècle, le projet de Paul Otlet et Henri La Fontaine visait à rassembler et classer tous les savoirs du monde. L’année 2019 marque à la fois le 75^e anniversaire de la mort de Paul Otlet et le 30^e anniversaire de la création du web. L’Institut national des sciences et techniques de la documentation (INTD) du CNAM fêtera en 2020 son 70^e anniversaire. La matinée de cette journée d'études sera consacrée à un volet historique sur la mise en perspective des projets d’Otlet avec des interventions belges et françaises. L’après-midi s’attachera à projeter l’œuvre d’Otlet dans la société numérique avec une session sur la gestion contemporaine des savoirs au sein de communautés scientifiques et une table ronde sur le thème « Savoirs, pouvoir, politique », en résonnance avec le projet pacifiste de Paul Otlet.

  Digital archiving in the Arab world

  Digital archiving in the Arab world acts as a major channel of knowledge transmission in the present day. As the practice grows, new archival challenges emerge and act as a catalyst for innovation and development of new technologies. The International Digital Archiving Conference in the Arab World is to be held in Abu Dhabi, October 26-27, 2019. It is the first Digital Archiving conference to be organized by the CEDEJ, Egypt (Centre d’études et de documentation économiques, juridiques et sociales) in collaboration with Bibliotheca Alexandrina and CEFAS (Centre français d’archéologie et de sciences sociales). The conference’s aim is to provide an exploratory gateway of the fast-growing interdisciplinaryfield of digital archiving in the Arab world.

  Ethiopian Studies and Digital Humanities: tools and projects

  Beta maṣāḥəft, Ethiopian Manuscript Archives, EthioMap

  The objective of this workshop is to create the conditions for the emergence of a scientific community using digital collaborative tools within Ethiopian studies. There is no need to recall the scientific and technological context in which we live to understand the importance and challenges of this methodological revolution. Many initiatives have emerged over the past two decades, both in terms of the availability of digitized documentation and the tools to use it. After the first experiments, interoperability and sharing have become the key words, and Ethiopian studies must respond to these good practices.
