Le parcours et l'œuvre de Friedrich Engels demeurent encore souvent dans l'ombre de Karl Marx. L'ambition de ce colloque pluridisciplinaire, organisé les 30 novembre et 1er décembre 2020 à l'université de Strasbourg à l'occasion du bicentenaire de sa naissance, est de rompre avec les idées reçues sur Engels en mobilisant les acquis de la recherche récente en sciences humaines et sociales, afin de projeter sur sa vie et ses travaux une lumière nouvelle.

Steering Innovation in Communication Infrastructures

The interaction between technological innovation and governance of communication infrastructures — the essence of the “guiding star”, as suggested by the title — constitutes the theme of the conference in February 2020. We wish to explore how innovation was steered by postal and telecommunication companies, as well as by other public and private players in the field of communication infrastructures: enterprises, governments, professional and state organizations, the users.

Interdisciplinary and international seminar of Reforesté project

This seminar is organized in the framework of Reforesté project ("Representations and reality of planted forests", funded by MSH Val de Loire and conducted by CITERES research center). Its ambition is to question the representations and the reality linked to forest plantations, which are formed by fast-growing species. The way is transdisciplinary, what is lacking in the existing literature. Two exemples will be more particularly mobilized: poplar plantations in France and acacia plantations in Vietnam.

State-building, social movements and political economy

Modernity was marked by the edification of increasingly complex and sophisticated state system, committed to governing territories and populations, through a multiplicity of administrative, fiscal, police and judicial networks. At the same time, new mechanisms for legitimizing political power emerged, based on the building of a public sphere and the dissemination of different forms of collective organization and mobilization: from associations to petitions, from political demonstrations to strikes and riots. Finally, a new regime of production and consumption was created in the form of a Political Economy directed to the creation of markets, the movement of goods and the accumulation of capital.

The cultural heritage of ports

Dans une perspective internationale et avec des approches méthodologiques différentes, ce quatrième colloque international sur le patrimoine culturel portuaire vise à approfondir les expériences de préservation des paysages portuaires. Le champ de présentation des recherches porte également sur le devenir des relations entre le port et la ville, d'un point de vue interdisciplinaire et inter-institutionnel. Le choix du musée Benito Quinquela Martín à Buenos Aires comme lieu de rencontre revêt une importance particulière en raison de la place de La Boca, premier port de l'histoire argentine.

Major and minor encounters in the 19th century

Réunir, autour d’une thématique suffisamment large, les jeunes dix-neuviémistes (doctorants et jeunes docteurs), par-delà les frontières des écoles doctorales et des champs historiographiques : voilà ce à quoi aspirent les Rencontres du XIX^e siècle, organisées par un comité issu de plus d’une dizaine d’institutions différentes. Avec justement, pour cette première édition, une réflexion autour de la rencontre, tant dans ses dimensions les plus concrètes que dans les sens métaphoriques qu’elle a pu revêtir au cours du XIX^e siècle.
