Perspectives on Religious Minorities in Contemporary Latin America and the Caribbean
This session aims to enrich and open new avenues of reflection on religious minorities in Latin America and the Caribbean and on the development of a national memory and culture. We are particularly interested in research based on empirical surveys (work on archives, ethnographies, analysis of statistical data, interviews) that seek to understand the links between the nation, national identity and minority religions, explore the relationship between majority religion and religious minorities (dialogues, conflicts, borrowings, etc.) or report on concrete aspects of the presence of these religious minorities in Latin American and Caribbean countries (rituals, practices, relationship to politics, etc.)

Doctoral workshop
Cet atelier doctoral entend examiner les incidences et les recompositions induites par les nouveaux usages du Coran dans les activités ordinaires des croyants, y compris l’éducation religieuse. Il s’agit de focaliser l’analyse sur l’expérience pratique de manière à rendre compte des mécanismes de l’adhésion et de l’impact de la pratique sur les subjectivités religieuses.

Open Theology invites submissions for the topical issue “The Bible and Migration”, prepared in collaboration with the conference The Bible on the Move: Toward a Biblical Theology of Migration, held at Fuller Theological Seminary in January 2020. This special issue asks how cutting-edge biblical scholarship should inform conversation about and action relating to migration in the twenty-first century, bridging the gap between biblical studies, theology, and activism. Articles should examine how the biblical texts reflect diverse migrant experiences, as well as ways in which these texts reflect theologically on migration and appropriate responses to it among migrants and host communities. Articles may also critically interrogate the Bible’s use in arguments over migration and migrants’ reception by host communities.

Witchcraft and moral harassment : forms of insidious violence
A comparative study of witchcraft and bullying has never been attempted, although these two forms of insidious violence seem comparable. This workshop aims to show, by mobilizing the tools of clinical psychology and social sciences, how insidious violence develops as a system with real agents in certain contemporary societies (in Europe and outside Europe), but also in the form of a collective belief in the existence of essentially harmful characters (the “narcissistic pervert”). Witchcraft and harassment thus seem to be organized around a distribution of roles that could be compared: the culprit (sorcerers / stalkers), the experts (counter-sorcerers / psychological or legal experts), witnesses / accusers and the victims. Basically, there are many proven attempts at bewitchment and harassment, but also situations of suspicion of bewitchment or harassment, fueled by socially constructed representations. In other words, we start from the idea that insidious violence can be both a practice of actual aggression and a system of interpreting signs supported by a community.

La sociologie des religions française s’est structurée dans les années 1960 autour de concepts – la sécularisation, la pluralisation religieuse, l’individualisation des pratiques et croyances – qui accordent une place centrale à la notion de changement, en y associant des connotations positives (la « modernité » religieuse) ou négatives (le registre de la perte) et analysée à différents échelles (individuelle, organisationnelle etc.). Tout en tenant compte des apports de ces paradigmes, l’objectif du réseau thématique sera de s’éloigner des approches théoriques qui seraient spécifiques aux religieux en s’interrogeant sur le travail de sélection et de catégorisation à l’œuvre : comment définir ce qui est « religieux » ? Comment appréhender objectivement ou subjectivement le changement ?
