Exploring 19th and 20th centuries historiographies of mathematics in the ancient world (2015-2016)
Seminar of the European Research Council Project "Mathematical sciences in the ancient world"
The organization of this seminar marks the beginning of the third and last phase of the SAW project. Our aim is to explore various facets of 19th and 20th century historical research about ancient mathematical sciences, especially those attested to by sources written in Chinese, the languages of the Indian subcontinent and cuneiform script.

This monthly seminar will aim to invite researchers to come and present their work in progress or recently published that address the "Arab mathematics", understood in a broad sense to be studied not only mathematics itself, but science "mathematized" of the era, such as astronomy, optics and static; Furthermore, we do not restrict themselves to only written in Arabic mathematics, but we can address their writings in other languages extensions, like Latin, Hebrew and Farsi. The texts studied will be discussed at sessions of three hours. Emphasis on reading and commenting on sources.

History and Philosophy of Mathematics
The seminar is the meeting point between different SPHERE teams that are interested in mathematics. It fosters dialogue between philosophers and historians of mathematics while focusing on textual sources. Speakers are encouraged to make their sources available to the participants.

Ouvert au public, il réunit des chercheur-e-s en sociologie, anthropologie, démographie et histoire, travaillant sur des régions d'Afrique, d'Asie et d'Amérique latine. Ses objectifs sont de mener une réflexion scientifique transdisciplinaire et de rendre compte des nouveaux axes, objets et méthodes de recherche sur les institutions scolaires, l’éducation et les savoirs dans les « Suds ».

History of Science, History of Text (2011-2016)
In 2015-2016, the seminar "History of Science, History of Text" will keep exploring textual problems related to the ERC Project SAW (“Mathematical Sciences in the Ancient World”) As in previous years, the seminar will address the following issues regarding scientific sources: how textual sources bear witness to the social groups that produced them; how textual sources testify to knowledge; history of compilations; how actors structure their texts and knowledge into parts; how textual sources reflect the material environment in which they were produced In line with the beginning of phase 3 of the project SAW, devoted to facets of the history of the historiography of ancient mathematics, the seminar will pay special attention to the sources attesting to work in the history of mathematics.

The Urban Studies Seminar is a joint activity of the Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) and 'Europe in the Middle East - The Middle East in Europe' (EUME), a research program at the Forum Transregionale Studien, Berlin. It is part of the EUME research field, «Cities Compared». The seminar aims at presenting and discussing ongoing research of scholars working on cities in regions with Muslim societies with an emphasis on Urban Studies in a comparative perspective.

The history of modern and contemporary Japan: permanence and rupture
Interdisciplinary seminar of the Centre de recherches sur le Japon (EHESS / UMR 8173) 2015-2016
Ce séminaire a pour objectif de présenter des recherches novatrices et des travaux récents en sciences humaines et sociales sur le Japon moderne et contemporain. Les conférences seront données par des membres du Centre de recherches sur le Japon et par des intervenants extérieurs. Les thèmes abordés iront de l'histoire à la sociologie en passant par l'économie, l’anthropologie, l'éducation, ou encore l'insertion du Japon dans diverses dimensions internationales. Le séminaire s'adresse à tous les étudiants de niveau master ou doctorat qui souhaitent approfondir leurs connaissances de la civilisation du Japon, et aux auditeurs libres, après accord des responsables. Les conférences se tiendront en français, en japonais avec traduction française, ou en anglais.

Ouvert en 2000, le séminaire de la Sorbonne poursuit deux objectifs : étudier l’histoire, longtemps négligée par les chercheurs, de la Gendarmerie, une force militaire et policière originale, rurale et urbaine, et une composante du système de défense ; élargir les travaux à la Police nationale et aux autres forces (civiles ou militaires, publiques ou privées, professionnelles ou informelles), qui participent à la sécurité, intérieure et extérieure, afin de contribuer au décloisonnement des recherches et à une meilleure compréhension de l’histoire de la sécurité, en France et à l’étranger.
