  Thinking prisons in Latin America

  Ce colloque a pour but de développer, diffuser et partager des connaissances sur les prisons latino-américaines pour tenter de comprendre la complexité du fonctionnement de ces espaces particuliers. Le milieu carcéral demeure un lieu amplement méconnu, non seulement du grand public mais également de la communauté scientifique pour qui les portes de cet univers ne se sont ouvertes que relativement récemment. Aussi, outre les personnes incarcérées, on ne peut ignorer la diversité des acteurs liés à l’espace physique ou symbolique des prisons ainsi qu’à leur périphérie. Le silence dont a longtemps été entouré l’univers carcéral s’est vu brisé ces dernières années par le développement de travaux scientifiques sur le sujet. La criminologie, l’anthropologie, la sociologie, l’histoire, les sciences politiques ou la psychologie ne représentent que quelques-unes des disciplines pour lesquels la prison offre un vaste champ de recherche.

  Rethinking the Political and the History of Politics in Chile: Languages, Discourses and Practices of Power

  The objective of this colloquium will be to debate and analyze politics and the political by means of the different forms of language, discourse and practices that intervene in the construction of the social world. There are myriad examples of this in Chilean history. Taking history, political philosophy and political economy as the starting points, we invite doctoral candidates, researchers and academics to participate in this truly trans disciplinary  space of debate, reflection and feedback whose goal is not only to unite a community of researchers into “the political” in the republican period but also to select the best works presented for a future publication in the format of a collective work or a special dossier of a scientific publication.

  10th Middle Ages study day

  The Brazilian Association of Medieval Studies (ABREM) will hold its Xth International Meeting of Medieval Studies: Ibero-american dialogues, from July 1st through 5th,  at the Universidade de Brasília (UnB), 2013. One of the main goals is to improve the networking between medievalists dedicated to the study of the Iberian Middle Ages. This meeting serves as a hub for latin-american specialists and also improves the connection that several institutes and labs maintain with Portuguese and Spanish researchers. One of its other goals would be to set up interinstitutional and international web researches. Finally, this meeting’s main focus is the Ibero-American medievalism itself.
