Transfers, transgressions, transformations
Evolutions of the American city
Ce colloque international se propose de croiser les approches disciplinaires sur la question des origines et celle de la transmission des identités urbaines. La problématique des transferts des savoirs, qui s’inscrit dans la continuité des colloques et des publications du laboratoire de recherche CRIT permettra d’élargir la réflexion sur la fluidité ou la rémanence de ces représenta. En effet, l’espace urbain a de tout temps accueilli, et parfois rejeté, souvent dans un paradoxe se nourrissant de ces ceux extrêmes, des populations venues d’horizons divers. Dans ce pays d’immigration que sont les États-Unis, le phénomène d’urbanisation est particulièrement propice à ce déploiement d’énergies, ainsi qu’aux brassages culturels et projets économiques et politiques. C’est alors un processus de savoirs entrecroisés qui au fil des années impose aux villes américaines leur géographie humaine si particulière et des spécificités propres.

Dans le cadre du projet européen Partage Plus, l’IRPA organisera les 13 et 14 février 2014 un colloque consacré à l’étude de l’Art nouveau. Il s’agira du quinzième séminaire d’histoire de l’art, une initiative du département documentation de l’IRPA. L’accent sera mis en particulier sur les différentes tendances et particularités coexistant au sein de l’Art nouveau tant en Belgique qu’à l’étranger.

À l'occasion de l’exposition « Royan : photographies de la Reconstruction (1950-1961), archives photographiques du MRU » la ville de Royan organise des journées d'étude les 16 et 17 janvier, qui ont pour thème : Chantiers du MRU, le patrimoine de la Reconstruction. Ces journées d’étude ont pour objectif de valoriser le patrimoine architectural de la reconstruction, son étude et sa protection, ainsi que de faire connaître le fonds photographiques du MRU.

Call for Abstracts for the first international colloquium about the New York painter David Diao. Born in 1943, Diao is a major artist of the conceptual painting field. His work is about the history of modern art, architecture and design but also about the complex interactions between autobiography, history, art market… This colloquium will take place in Museum of modern and contemporary art, Strasbourg. Organized by two laboratories of University of Strasbourg and National School of Archiecture of Strasbourg. The colloquium is part of a series of projects with David Diao in Strasbourg for 2014 : artist residence, edition of a work, collective book, colloquium.

Holidays and domestic architecture
Le bicentenaire de la naissance de Viollet-le-Duc est inscrit au programme des Commémorations nationales du ministère de la Culture en 2014. À cette occasion, le laboratoire EA 3002 ITEM, de l’Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, organise un colloque international afin de célébrer l’œuvre et le parcours de cet architecte-théoricien, fondateur du renouveau identitaire national dans le domaine du patrimoine et des arts. Cette manifestation aura lieu les 9 et 10 octobre 2014 à la salle des congrès Antoine d’Abbadie, à Hendaye, non loin du château d’Abbadia, édifice marquant du corpus viollet-le-ducien.

Ramau conferences – 2014
Following the study days dedicated to “architectural and town planning professions faced with the involvement of residents and users” in 2012 and “sustainable town planning and architecture know-how and models” in 2013, the aim of the Ramau 2014 conferences is to concentrate on the relations between sustainability and “management” in the field of urban development and architecture. The incorporation of sustainable development in architectural, urban and landscaping operations seems to have the effect of increasing the concern for management logic in the project process.

Taking Tunisia — a tiny yet dense country — as a case study, this international conference addresses the possibility of sharing contemporary public spaces in the Mediterranean. It addresses the role played by architecture and urban forms in the sharing process itself and also invites to think of future forms and ambiences in a context of hyper-plurality in which the notion of neighborhood is put into question and the notion of space marking is more than ever re-explored.

PAJEP conference
Ce colloque vise à étudier l’histoire des équipements socioculturels depuis les années 1930. Organisé par Laurent Besse (histoire) et Catherine Clarisse (architecture), il s’adresse à des chercheurs intéressés par les rapports entre éducation populaire et architecture, qu’ils soient historiens, architectes, sociologues, géographes, spécialistes de sciences de l’éducation. L’étude des programmes architecturaux et des conceptions pédagogiques qui les sous-tendent sera complétée par celle des usages de ces bâtiments. Si la perspective est clairement historique, le colloque vise également à identifier un patrimoine de solutions techniques qui mérite d’être réinterrogé au regard des besoins contemporains. Les réhabilitations contemporaines de ces bâtiments sont une thématique qui sera abordée.

Persistent Spaces: politics, aesthetics and topography in the XVIIIth and XIXth-century City
Our two-day postgraduate conference will explore the evolving configurations of the urban space from the Enlightenment to the late 19th-century. We will consider the accumulating and interpenetrating layers that make up the 18th- and 19th-century city. London and Paris will be our main focus, but this palimpsestic model may be extended elsewhere, and we will welcome abstracts centring on other cities. Interdisciplinarity will be key to our conference. We hope to attract researchers from various fields, including literature and the arts, sociology, philosophy, law, science and engineering, etc. Through this ‘decompartmentalized’ approach, we will attempt to shed light on the myriad facets of the 18th- and 19th-century city.

Call for papers - Epistemology and methodology
University and the history of art, subjects of memory (1870-1970)
Ces journées d’études s’inscrivent dans le cadre d’un programme de recherches sélectionné en 2010 par la Région Aquitaine pour inventorier, étudier et valoriser le patrimoine artistique de l'Université de Bordeaux. Au terme des différentes recherches menées par les collaborateurs du programme, nous proposons de revenir sur le sujet en adoptant une vision synchronique par rapport à un territoire plus ample, englobant la France et l’Europe, et en conciliant le champ de l’histoire de l’art avec une perspective disciplinaire plus large. Ces journées d’études entendent encourager des approches typologiques croisées tout en les mettant en relation avec l’enseignement dispensé et la recherche scientifique, sur une période allant de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle jusqu’aux années 1960.

Cette journée d’étude a pour objectif d’interroger le sens et la valeur des collaborations entre architectes et plasticiens dans la création d’œuvres collectives entre le début des années 1930, qui sont souvent présentées comme une période propice à l’émergence de telles pratiques, et le milieu des années 1960, c’est-à-dire le moment où s’achève une Reconstruction qui, dans une certaine mesure tout au moins, semble avoir favorisé leur concrétisation. Cette journée entend contribuer à prendre la mesure de la singularité de ces expériences ayant réunis des créateurs dont les pratiques plastiques pouvaient être très hétérogènes. À partir d’exemples précis de collaborations et de projets collectifs, elle invite à s’interroger tant sur les buts esthétiques, sociologiques qu’idéologiques de ces pratiques.

Second French-speaking conference on the history of construction
L’activité de la construction convoque des ressources et des compétences de natures très diverses. Elle se trouve largement déterminée par des phénomènes extrêmement variés, chacun généralement étudié séparément au sein de disciplines autonomes. L’histoire de la construction revendique un champ d’investigation qui est spécifique par rapport à ceux de l’histoire de l’architecture, de l’art, des sciences ou des idées ; tout en convoquant les disciplines des ingénieurs, architectes, économistes, juristes, artisans, artistes, philosophes. L’interdisciplinarité, caractéristique et nécessité de l’histoire de la construction, n’est cependant jamais acquise. Elle se nourrit de ces rencontres qui permettent de faire système de points de vue qui, en l’absence de rendez-vous périodiques et réguliers, resteraient singuliers et isolés.

Representing South African cities
This conference proposes to present the latest developments in the research on South African cities, but also to offer an opportunity for academics from various fields (literature, social sciences, architecture, geography, visual arts, etc.) to compare their respective analysis and their theoretical conclusions with the imaginative, artistic representations of the cities of South Africa. The convenors therefore not only invite researchers from all fields to come and present their latest work on South African cities, but also strongly encourage papers which offer a cross-disciplinary approach, or joint presentations between researchers from various fields or academics and artists (writers, directors, photographs). Some major actors of the literary and art scene will be present to expose their views and discuss their works with researchers as well as with a wider, more general audience.This conference is part of the Official Season of South Africa in France.

Light in the Religions of the Book: A Multidisciplinary Approach
If light is a valuable tool for the development of buildings, it also meets the requirements of practical and functional needs. Beyond its purely aesthetic role, it is indeed a way to delineate the space and to organize its occupation by defining spatialities and temporalities adapted to the functions of the building. In order to assess the significance of spatial and temporal dimensions of light, a cross-reading of architectural, archaeological, textual and iconographic sources might be particularly fruitful. The theme of light which, somewhat complex, constitutes a privileged entry point not only to the study of man's relationship to space and the sacred, but also to the development – within or between monotheisms – of influences, exchanges, ruptures, continuities and legacies. The goal of the conference is to explore the theme of light in the East and in the West, during the Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, in a transdisciplinary perspective and within five thematic panels.

L’ambition de ces trois jours à Chartres est de confronter, dans l’espace et dans le temps, les formes diversifiées que la mémoire peut revêtir pour les artistes et les commanditaires, et leur réception par le public.
