The current crises in the Central Africa and the Great Lakes sub-regions have caused the movement of persons in an unprecedented scale. The most recent case studies of insecurity in these sub-regions are quite revealing on the impact of insecurity and migration in Central Africa, in human societies and particularly on women and youths.

Frontières et recompositions territoriales au Moyen-Orient et au Sahel

The Arab uprisings lead to many political and sociological analyses but few of them consider the spatial and territorial consequences of the misnamed Arab Springs. This international conference aims to explore this turn in the Middle East and the Sahel: five years after the birth of the South Soudan state and the beginning of the Arab uprisings, what changes have occurred with respect to borders? Can the collapses of some states be seen as the end of borders or the disintegration of national spaces and the outline of a new enduring and alternative territorial order?

As language vehicles thought; foreign culture is also assumed to be transmitted as a consequence of the teaching/learning process. Intercultural awareness then is an undeniable issue to be discussed in any foreign language teaching atmosphere. The issue identified above is expected to be significant for teachers, learners, researchers and educationists in general. The importance of the subject will be seen in the exchange of experiences and expertise among local and foreign interveners in a way that raises the students’ awareness in the English department that debates on intercultural issues will serve them in many sorts of ways. The First World War from Tripoli to Mogadishu (1912-1924)

"How, because of two wild beasts the world was set alight"

Writing the history of the first World War from an African perspective is the main ambition of this conference. The Global approach challenges the traditional center and periphery model. What we would like to suggest in this conference is the adoption of a combination of different scales of analysis: local, national and transnational. The goal of the conference is to bring together experts, academics, early-career historians and doctoral students from different disciplines to share new scholarly work and to enrich the history of the first World War in Africa and the Middle East.
