L’axe de recherche « Modernités » s’attache à étudier la construction des modernités européennes, dans toutes leurs manifestations culturelles. Plusieurs directions de travail permettent de réfléchir à la constitution de ce qu’on a appelé la première modernité, entre Renaissance et Lumières. Les dimensions littéraire, politique, philosophique et religieuse font l’objet de recherches interdisciplinaires, qui peuvent s’étendre à des phénomènes de modernité à d’autres périodes. Les liens entre l’Antiquité et la culture de la première modernité sont aussi examinés, en littérature comme en philosophie. -

Teaching Arabic to Non Arabic Speakers : Diverse Experiences
L’idée du colloque est de confronter des expériences d’enseignement de la langue arabe aux non arabophones dans les établissements supérieurs aussi bien européens que ceux du monde arabe à travers deux axes : un axe historique et institutionnel de l’enseignement et des formations en arabe portant sur les voies lesquelles il s'est institionnalisé dans les différentes traditions d'enseignement des langues étrangères; un axe linguistique et didactique où l’on s’interrogera sur les choix pédagogiques qui sont faits dans les formations, à travers les différentes expériences. Les langues du colloque sont le français, l’anglais et l’arabe. -

The Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research will award several short-term fellowships for visiting researchers in 2012. The GEI’s fellowship programme supports research on textbooks and other educational media. Fellowships aim to provide both young and established academics and textbook authors with the opportunity to use the extensive international textbook collection in its specialist library, conducting comparative studies, exchanging ideas and discussing their findings with the academic staff of the Institute. -

Exo-lexical variables in monolingual and bilingual morphological processing. Dates : 9 et 11 février 2012. Workshop dans le cadre de l'IMM15 (International Morphology Meeting), 9-12 février 2012, Vienne (Autriche). The question of how the lexicon is organized in terms of structural units and how these units interact with each other during lexical access and subsequently during morphological processing, has been a controversial field for a long time. The morpheme versus lexeme problem is still unsolved, but several pieces of psycholinguistic evidence have come to corroborate the hypothesis according to which the locus of morphological effects is not situated exclusively inside the lexical unit but should be extended to its environment. In fact, one of the difficulties of the study of morphology for alphabetic languages is that not only morphology is correlated with semantic, orthographic and phonological factors, but also that stems and inflected or derived words exist as free word-forms, entertaining different interrelations. -

IIEMCA2011: Harold Garfinkel Tribute Events
The 10th Conference of the International Institute for Ethnomethodology and Conversation Analysis will be held from July 11 to 14, 2011 at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). The Conference promotes the study of practical action and social interaction, and provides an international forum for researchers working in the areas of ethnomethodology and conversation analysis. The conference will also celebrate the originality, significance and fruitfulness of the work of Harold Garfinkel, who passed away last month at the age of 93. Specific events will be held to honor Harold Garfinkel's legacy: a tribute ceremony, workshops on his research and an exhibition displaying testimonies of his influence around the world. You will find the program of these activities as well as information on how to contribute on the conference website
