Call for projects Southern Africa 2013
Within the framework of its research programmes, the French Institute of South Africa (UMIFRE 25, USR 3336) finances research projects in the Human and Social Sciences on Southern Africa ofr 2013. The call for projects is intended for research units, senior researchers, post-doctorate, doctorate and master students carrying a scientific partnership between Europe and Southern Africa. All funding applications for 2013 must imperatively reach us before the 14th of December 2012. -

For 2013, IFAS is launching a call for applications for one or two doctoral or post-doctoral research positions, for a maximum of nine months, non-renewable (save for exceptional reasons). All applications for 2013 must imperatively reach us before the 14th of December 2012. -

EDEQUE 2012 doctoral seminars
This multidisciplinary meeting will bring together all PhD students, teachers, researchers and partners working in the fields of science, technology and socio-economic aspects of water. The theme of the meeting of this year is titled "the achievements of water reform and funding in Africa: Case of Senegal". This year's seminar of EDEQUE will revisit the main points in the institutional reforms of the water sector initiated by the gouvernment. This meeting will be a great forum of exchange and sharing of scientific results. It will be also an occasion, for young research students to present to the participants the progress of their PhD reaseach work and to visit laboratories, water infrastructures sites on the ground. -

Dans la région de Grands Lacs, en Afrique orientale, la vulnérabilité et la précarité qui touchent les enfants (enfants et jeunes-adolescents), se sont accrues ces dernières années avec plus ou moins d’intensité en raison de la situation politique conflictuelle ou post-conflictuelle. Le colloque traitera donc des « enfants précaires », entre « enfants victimes et jeunesse violente », il s’agit primo d’en mesurer les diverses dimensions, du moins contribuer à améliorer la connaissance – encore parcellaire – du sujet ; secundo d’étudier la prise en charge familiale et institutionnelle des enfants et tertio d’étudier les politiques publiques et l’action sociale à leur sujet. -

Rwanda: Genocide and Reconstruction
A journey through the Genocide of Tutsi
Organized in Rwanda by the Interdisciplinary Genocide Studies Center. The Interdisciplinary Genocide Studies Center based in Kigali, Rwanda continues their two/three-week US/Rwanda exchange program in order to deepen students’, researchers’, and artists’ knowledge of the Rwandan genocide. In the last years, the program started in 2004 has enabled teachers and students from Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Afghanistan, Singapore, Mexico, UK, France, Belgium, Spain, and the USA to develop narratives that engage questions of social justice, conflict resolution, and peace building. The program has involved theater artists, filmmakers, academicians, researches, and students from various disciplines and countries, whose practice engages questions of peace building. -

On peut même penser à la découverte de nouveaux territoires migratoires. -

Journal Cadernos de Estudos Africanos thematic Issues
The journal Cadernos de Estudos Africanos seeks contributions for a thematic issue on the African presence in contemporary Portuguese society. We start from a broad understanding of this sizeable populace, comprising not only people born in Africa or those who have lived there but also their descendants who identify themselves as Africans, Afro-Portuguese or retornados, irrespective of their nationality. Our aim is thus to portray a large and heterogeneous population (regarding the countries they come from, and the diversity of life courses, ethnic loyalties and cultural references) that nonetheless shares Africa as a common geographical reference. These groups include, but are certainly not limited to, the so-called second generation of African immigrants and those who have returned from the former colonies. In the Portugal of today, a person’s African heritage, or a prolonged residence in Africa, tend to be significant biographical elements, in addition to being key markers of a social and cultural alterity that is often racialized. -

Le succès des premières rencontres nous incite à lancer les deuxièmes Rencontres d’histoire de l’environnement relatives à la Belgique (dans ses frontières anciennes et actuelles), ainsi qu’au Grand Duché de Luxembourg, au Congo, au Rwanda et au Burundi, dont elle a intimement partagé l’histoire. Celles-ci auront lieu les 29-30 novembre et 1er décembre 2012 aux Facultés universitaires de Namur (FUNDP). Une publication des actes de ce colloque international est prévue aux Presses universitaires de Namur. -
