The current state of research in the History of Italian art
L'Association des historiens de l'art italien (A.H.A.I.) souhaite organiser une journée d'études consacrée à la présentation de travaux universitaires liés à l'art italien, du Moyen Âge à nos jours. Cette initiative doit permettre à de jeunes chercheurs de faire connaître leurs travaux, qu'il s'agisse de thèses récemment soutenues ou en voie d'achèvement.Les communications présentées pourront faire l'objet d'une publication dans la revue de l'A.H.A.I (ArtItalies). Cette rencontre aura lieu le samedi 29 mars 2014.

Migrant literature and translation
La notion de littérature migrante est difficilement cernable. Toutefois, si on la considère du point de vue de la traduction, elle devient plus aisément identifiable. Sous cet angle en effet, on peut caractériser les textes qui relèvent de cette catégorie à partir des problèmes récurrents qu’ils posent au traducteur. Dans cette perspective, le colloque international Littératures migrantes et traduction propose de lancer une vaste réflexion sur les littératures migrantes. Tout en partant des difficultés que rencontre tout traducteur qui travaille sur ce type de productions, on élargira progressivement le questionnement. Seront également abordées les différentes traditions critiques qui analysent les littératures migrantes et, par là, les difficultés pour transférer les terminologies qui leur sont propres d’une langue à l’autre.

Port Cities: Comparative Perspectives on Urban Stability and Public Safety

The coming of globalization was centrally anchored in the increased mobility of goods, people and ideas. Port cities were thus transformed in crucial hubs in this mobility age. Because of the heterogeneous social and cultural landscape associated with commerce and transport, port cities became increasingly known as insecure places. Hence the perceptions resulting from and the strategies adopted to deal with the insecurity and the search for a new sense of urban stability were especially acute in port cities.

La fondation Calouste Gulbenkian soutient l'organisation d'un colloque international au patriarcat arménien de Jérusalem, les 3 et 4 juillet 2014, sur le thème : « La genèse de Jérusalem : espaces construits et communautés historiques ». Il s'agit de s'interroger sur la construction historique et sociale de la Jérusalem contemporaine en étudiant les relations entretenues par les différentes communautés de la ville avec l'espace qui les entoure, dans leurs multiples dimensions, aussi bien religieuses que séculières. Les organisateurs encouragent une approche pluridisciplinaire. Le colloque est ouvert à toutes les aires culturelles potentiellement concernées, et notamment aux spécialistes en études arméniennes. Il mettra l'accent sur les périodes moderne et contemporaine.

Les Cahiers d’Histoire journal
La revue Les Cahiers d’Histoire sollicite des propositions d’articles pour son numéro de l’automne 2014 qui portera sur le discours hagiographique et sera publié sous la direction de Philippe Genequand et de Véronique Olivier. Les personnes intéressées par cette thématique sont invitées à soumettre un texte d’environ 500 mots décrivant sommairement l’article envisagé et les sources privilégiées au plus tard le 15 novembre 2013. Les articles pouvant être rédigés en français ou en anglais et ne dépassant pas les 8 000 mots seront ensuite attendus pour le 1er mai 2014. Ils seront alors soumis au processus habituel d’évaluation de la revue Les Cahiers d’Histoire.

A new turn in history and the humanities?
Après le tournant linguistique et culturel qu’a connu l’historiographie dans les dernières décennies du XXe siècle, une nouvelle frontière s’est ouverte aux chercheur, celle des sensibilités et des émotions, à tel point que certains auteurs parlent d’un « tournant émotionnel » (emotional turn) ou « affectif » (affective turn). Là, comme dans des élans de rénovation antérieur, les historiens n’avancent pas seuls mais de conserve avec d’autres disciplines des sciences sociales et humaines, et même des sciences épistémologiquement distantes comme la médecine. L’étude des émotions se constitue depuis quelques années comme un nouveau champ de recherche, ou plus exactement une nouvelle perspective applicable à des champs déjà connus.

Environmental approaches of interactions between cities and forest supplies during the Middles Ages and the Early modern period. 12th International Conference on urban History, European Association for Urban History – Main Session M16
As places of consumption and production European medieval and early modern cities exerted a enormous pressure on neighbouring woodlands. Some historical studies have already discussed the way cities tried to impone their control on these lands emphasizing the diversity of needs which were fulfilled by forest exploitation (wood, timber, charcoal, grazing…). They often concluded that urban pressure resulted in an inexorable degradation of the forest cover. Indeed local woodlands and forests products could probably never meet the demand. In order to face shortage or, better, to prevent it, urban authorities attempted on one hand to extend their control on more and more distant forests and to attract interregional or « international » trade flows. On the other hand, they tried to regulate the local market so as to ensure access to several important needs regarding urban economy (charcoal, timber).

Since the development of universities to the changes caused by Galilean science, Europe has experienced constant questionings which challenge its political balances and their legitimations, which undermine the foundations of confessional unity and move the borders of knowledge and creation. Trying to transcend the divisions inherited from a long historiographical tradition, the research department Transitions addresses the mutations which characterize the Late Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period (14th-17th centuries). Resolutely multidisciplinary, this department intends to enlarge our interests to the constellation of factors which contributed to the political and cultural construction of the frames within which we still define ourselves today.

Retrospectives is an online graduate journal run and published by postgraduate history students at the University of Warwick. International Conference on the 250th anniversary of the death of Heinrich Count Brühl
The 250th anniversary of the death of Heinrich Count von Brühl will be taken as an opportunity to assess the field of research on this controversial valued patron and collector, and to identify further areas of investigation. A central point of inquiry of this conference is Brühl’s patronage: Brühl built up not only numerous collections, but was also an important patron for domestic and foreign painters, sculptors and architects. Brühl used a network of specialized art agents and artists for internationally competitive extension and development of its own and the court collections. The aim of this conference will be to carry out a comparative and synthetic analysis of both unpublished sources and material that has not yet been systematically considered.

Sport and Education from the Ephebe to the Teenager
In every age, from ancient Greece to contemporary societies, sport has always had close and significant links to the world of education. The gymnasium of the ancient world fulfilled a threefold purpose as a space of the celebration of the body, sensory education and physical training. The twentieth century has seen a partial renewal in sports education in accordance with ideas and proposals influenced by, and occasionally the subject of controversy among, the Olympic movement, sporting associations, the institution of school, and youth movements. Sports education, then, involves issues and concerns encompassing the civic, military, health, practical and, most markedly, political spheres. The historiography of sports education has experienced profound transformations over the last decade, seeing changes in its sources, its subjects and its approaches. This session will be devoted to an account of the most exciting directions it is taking today.

Christian Fürchtegott Gellert at the heart of the German Enlightenment
L’œuvre de Christian Fürchtegott Gellert (1715-1769) se trouve à plusieurs titres au carrefour des Lumières allemandes. Professeur de philosophie morale à Leipzig, il toucha un public hétérogène grâce à ses cours, à ses ouvrages didactiques et à son abondante correspondance. Au carrefour de la poétique et de l’esthétique, son œuvre artistique couvre tous les genres littéraires et s’ouvre même à la production musicale. On pourra analyser son rapport au piétisme, sa crainte de voir le monde chrétien disparaître à cause des mutations économiques, son approche de l’univers politique et ses liens avec la popularphilosophie. On prêtera une attention particulière à Gellert en tant que maître de l’art épistolaire. On pourra envisager ce faisant la réception de ses œuvre en France.

Si depuis un vingtaine d'années, l'histoire du droit de punir fournit l'un des chantiers les plus féconds de l'historiographie, les normes et les pratiques de la coopération judiciaire entre les Etats souverains demeurent largement méconnues. De la construction de l'Etat moderne jusqu'aux processus contemporains d'intégration, la journée d'études du 21 février 2014 est donc ouverte à toutes les recherches historiques sur la coopération judiciaire et les champs d'intervention qui la rendent possible (diplomatie, justice, police).

Actif depuis 1884, elle est consacrée à la publication des recherches historiques concernant le Valdisme et les mouvements de réforme religieuse en Italie et en Europe. Le comité scientifique a décidé de consacrer un numéro spécial (n ° 214, Juin 2014) à « Diasporas, expulsions et exilés religioniscausa dans l'Europe de l'époque moderne (XIV-XVIII siècles) », un sujet qui dans ces dernières années a revenu au centre du débat historique.

Port zones: planning, restoration, rehabilitation from Antiquity to the present day
Les journées d’étude de la SFHU (société française d’histoire urbaine) se tiendront les 16 et 17 janvier 2014, à l’université de Caen Basse-Normandie et sont organisées en collaboration avec le centre de recherche d’histoire quantitative (UMR 6583 CNRS / UCBN). La thématique retenue cette année invite à réfléchir aux liens entre les installations portuaires et la ville. Port au cœur de la ville, existence d’avant-ports dissociés de l’espace urbain, les schémas et leurs évolutions sont multiples depuis les époques anciennes et les mutations des espaces portuaires nombreuses. Cette thématique, conçue dans une perspective chronologique et géographique large, trouve un écho particulier dans les territoires de l’ouest de la France, et spécialement de Normandie, où les questions de rapports entre les espaces portuaires et le tissu urbain ont orienté les politiques d’aménagement.

The progress of perfected industry
Workshops and manufactures in the years between the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Empire (France 1789 – 1815)
Up until now the revolutionary period has mainly been considered as a period of disruption, especially in the field of luxury industries, which were considered to be at odds with the values of the new emerging social system. It is now possible to show that contrary to this general assumption, continuity can be found in this pivotal period between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The quick re-awakening of the production of luxury goods followed the establishment of the Directoire and its flowering during the Napoleonic years is proof of great flexibility and adjustment to social change and the new paradigms of labor. A number of questions emerge from these observations: what events and changes confronted former royal and later national manufacturers, famous workshops and regional producers in the years between the Ancien Régime and the Bourbon Restoration? In what ways were artists and artisans able to adapt or resign themselves to the new challenges? But also – to what extent did these events stimulate new modes of creativity and production which would have an impact on the development of industrialization in France?

On the dynamics of production (Distraction/Interference – Resistance/Accident)
In ordinary terms, the word production refers to an act of creation and its result, or to a process at the end of which there is a materialisation of some kind, or to the act of making something present. By productively interfering with this common idea of productionwe would like to work towards establishing different ways of thinking about this concept.
Distraction and Interference as well as Resistance and Accident are exemplary categories of the unexpected moments that may or may not take place in the course of production. They remind us that production cannot be reduced to the momentum of "achieving a product". Rather, these categories help to reveal the physical presence of those who produce, the materiality of the objects involved and the unforeseen effects of the "product". Furthermore, they allow us to question the alleged linearity of the processes that form part of production. Thereby, Distraction, Interference, Resistance and Accident make us aware to what extent production involves a "lived" and "living" tension between the producer and what is being produced, between the subject and the world.
