  Profile, Predict and Prevent

  Data-driven policies, markets and societies

  Algorithms are increasingly used, both by States,market actors and citizens, for the purpose of profiling. Through big data analysis and inference techniques, an attempt is made to better understand, predict and, in certain cases, prevent citizen behaviour. Data analysis techniques are deployed in many sectors of society, from cyber-security and police investigations to judicial decision-making, from product customization and personalisation to marketing strategies and targeted advertising, from self-monitoring to lifestyle improvement. For this conference, we invite researchers, experts and practitioners from different backgrounds to reflect upon the legal, ethical and social implications of data-driven policies, market transactions and quantified-self techniques. We welcome empirical, theoretical and philosophical contributions regarding profiling, prediction and prevention.

  The International Federation for Public History (IFPH-FIHP),  together with the American NCPH and other associations and cultural institutions, are participating to an important workshop on Public History organised by the History and Civilisation Department,European University Institute together with the EUI Max Weber Academic Careers Observatory Programand the Historical Archives of the European Union, in Florence-Fiesole, Italy, 11th, 12th and 13th February 2015.

  Humanidades digitais em Portugal: construir pontes e quebrar barreiras na era digital

  Debater o papel das Humanidades na academia e na sociedade é uma tendência de longa data. A confluência deste debate com o das transformações trazidas pela tecnologia digital também não é recente: não se pode falar de “novas tecnologias” para as Humanidades quando muitos investigadores recorrem ao digital há pelo menos quatro décadas, em disciplinas tão diversas como a Linguística, a História ou os Estudos Literários. O Congresso de Humanidades Digitais em Portugal pretende precisamente estimular essas intersecções, abrindo um fórum de partilha e discussão de resultados de investigação ou de projectos ainda em curso neste campo de conhecimento.
