Zaman İçinde İnsanoğlunun Barınağı Olarak Konut
Nous reprenons comme l’an dernier notre cycle qui a pour objet une question qui a intéressé les érudits depuis Vitruve en passant par J.-J.Rousseau : l’habitation. Plusieurs séances sont prévues entre octobre et mars. Ce thème sera présenté à partir des données archéologiques du Néolithique au Moyen Âge. Nous avons pris le parti de focaliser sur les sites de la périphérie pour enrichir les comparaisons avec l’Anatolie. -

To say it more concretely, we will try to share our different fieldwork approach and theoretical understanding of widely used concepts such as, for example, civil society, labor movements, environmental protest… We will try to analyze the interactions between social protest and the media, the state, political parties, industries, etc. -

Digital Humanities Seminar 2010 : Scholarly Editions
This presentation deals with the digital edition of D’Alembert’s eulogy of Bossuet. This text is highly difficult to edit since we have to cope with a printed edition published in two stages and two successive manuscript versions showing various types and levels of corrections.We will explain first these editorial issues and the research problems they are connected to. Then we will expose the way a digital edition could better bring solutions than a traditional printed edition through a series of features showing the genesis process of the text, from the manuscripts to the published versions. Finally we will present some software which makes it possible to edit this text as well as other eulogies with similar characteristics. -

Monuments, Documents: Interpretation and Overinterpretation
Une opinion courante aujourd’hui veut qu’il n’y ait pas un instant où l’on ne cesse d’interpréter. Toute expérience d’une chose pourvue de sens nous placerait devant un cas d’interprétation et un produit de celle-ci. La question urgente pour la constitution d’un savoir « scientifique » est donc : y a-t-il une frontière entre interprétation et surinterprétation ? Autant l’interprétation semble légitime, autant la surinterprétation est-elle rejetée comme illégitime. Est-ce parce qu’elle apparaît comme une violence faite à l’objet que l’on cherche à comprendre ? Comme une brusquerie contre le consensus sur lequel la discipline en question est fondée ? Par ailleurs, si tout n’est qu’interprétation, y a-t-il encore place dans nos disciplines pour un réel progrès scientifique, et de quelle nature est-il ? (meilleure compréhension de l’objet, affinement des méthodes ? -

Philosophy of Social Science Roundtable
Abstracts on any topic in philosophy of the social sciences or in the philosophy of social phenomena are welcome. We especially welcome papers that tackle philosophical issues as they arise in, and are consequential for, practicing social scientists. We will assemble a two-day program of papers to be presented in workshop format so that intensive discussion can be the focus of the meeting. We choose papers with the aim of ensuring a broad mix of topics and of presenters from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, and we particularly welcome contributions from junior colleagues and colleagues new to the area. Send a one-page abstract to any member of the program committee by December 15, 2010. -

Academic Culture of Remembrance
The combination of university history, jubilees and academic heritage
The aim of this two-day conference is to discuss the triangular relationship between scientific research, the opening up of academic heritage and the creation of a culture of remembrance. Two series of questions are at the centre of this symposium. (1) Firstly, we would like to examine, from a historiographical perspective, the relationship between university history, the culture of remembrance in general and university jubilees in particular. (2) Secondly, the place of academic heritage in the creation and communication of (historical) knowledge of universities and scientific practices will be considered. Through a combination of both central themes, the conference aspires to offer some innovative perspectives for writing contemporary university history. -

The Power of the Imagination in the Early Modern Period
Ce colloque a pour objectif d’explorer l’histoire des traditions orthodoxes et hétérodoxes de la force de l’imagination dans la période couvrant les XVIe-XVIIIe siècles. Contre l’idée traditionnelle d’une imagination limitée et passive, certains auteurs avançaient l’argument d’une puissance active ou créatrice de l’imagination. Le paradigme aristotélicien se trouvait notamment combattu par des philosophes soutenant que l’imagination ne recomposait pas simplement des images, mais pouvait aussi les créer. -

L'historiographie médiévale d'Alexandre le Grand
Deuxième rencontre
Cette journée d'études, qui a été précédée par une première rencontre sur ce même thème le 22 janvier 2010, s'inscrit dans les programmes CPER et ANR « La création d'un mythe médiéval d'Alexandre dans les littératures européennes ». Dans de très nombreux récits autonomes ou intégrés à des histoires universelles naît et se renouvelle une historiographie médiévale européenne sur Alexandre le Grand, qui reste encore peu étudiée. La conciliation d’autorités diverses, la juxtaposition de plusieurs points de vue, avec une exploitation nouvelle des textes historiques de l’Antiquité tardive, avec aussi l’appropriation ou au contraire la mise à distance de données héritées du Pseudo-Callisthène, assurent de constantes modifications dans l’interprétation du personnage, de même qu’évolue l’importance accordée à son souvenir dans la mémoire collective réinventée. -

11th International Conference on the History and Archaeology of Jordan
La 11ème conférence sur l'Histoire et l'Archéologie de la Jordanie s’inscrit dans une série de rencontres scientifiques initiée par Son Altesse Royale le Prince Hassan bin Talal de Jordanie en 1980. Elle reste, depuis cette date, placée sous son patronage, en associant occasionnellement le Palais Royal – en 1989, Sa Majesté Royale la Reine Nour avait inauguré en personne la conférence qui s’était tenue à Lyon, en France. La conférence se déroule dans des lieux différents tous les trois ans (Oxford au Royaume-Uni, Amman, Irbid et Pétra en Jordanie, Tübingen en Allemagne, Lyon en France, Turin en Italie, Copenhague au Danemark, Sydney en Australie et Washington aux Etats-Unis), en partenariat avec une institution universitaire de la ville d’accueil. La Conférence n’a jamais encore été accueillie à Paris. -

Symposium on TEI and Scholarly Publishing
This symposium, to be held in conjunction with a meeting of the TEI Council, will explore such questions through a series of presentations outlining the current state of the art in institutional publishing operations such as those of universities in the UK, France, US, and Australia, from the point of view of private sector publishers (among which the NLM DTDs are increasingly adopted), and from international initiatives where interoperability has been identified as a major factor (e.g., PEER, which includes European research institutions, repositories, and STM publishers). The objective is to identify current difficulties in making publication systems interoperable and identify priority actions for the TEI to intervene in this arena. -
