Créée en 2008 en collaboration avec les éditions Complicités, la revue annuelle Les Cahiers J.M.G. Le Clézio réunit textes critiques, témoignages, entretiens, notes de lectures et documents inédits relatifs à l'oeuvre de J.M.G. Le Clézio. Ce numéro 8 des Cahiers Le Clézio « Les enjeux philosophiques de l’œuvre de J.M.G. Le Clézio » se propose d'examiner le rapport entre l'œuvre de J.M.G. Le Clézio et les thèmes philosophiques présents à travers ses romans et ses essais.

Marseille : son histoire et son patrimoine culturel

Journée d’étude internationale et bilingue

Ce colloque pluridisciplinaire a pour but de marquer le statut de Marseille comme capitale européenne de la culture en 2013 en réunissant des chercheurs qui s’intéressent à l’histoire de la ville phocéenne (jumelée avec Glasgow depuis 2006) ainsi qu’à sa contribution à la culture de l’Europe au fil du temps. Les intervenants spécialistes de l'histoire sociale, de la sociologie urbaine, du cinéma et de la littérature traiteront des arts plastiques, scéniques, audiovisuels et culinaires à Marseille, de la vie littéraire, musicale et sportive de la ville, ou de l’évolution du port ainsi que de son patrimoine architectural. Les communications vont analyser les ressemblances entre les villes de Marseille et de Glasgow ainsi que les différences qui les distinguent du point de vue historique, culturel et socioéconomique.

Meet the New Gods, Same as the Old Gods? Formulary, Ritual and Status in Hellenistic Ruler Cult

Panel to be held at the Eighth Celtic Conference in Classics

Despite recent and widespread interest in Greek hero and ruler cult, evaluating the processes that lead to the bestowal of cultic honours on Hellenistic sovereigns still remains a controversial matter. Political readings of such honours within the framework of contemporary international diplomacy and euergetic discourse have picked up on polarities widely discussed by previous bibliography, such as "dynastic vs. civic", "living vs. posthumous", etc. Yet the main focus is still limited to a "top-down" perspective, which leaves aside the fascinating dialectics between "private" and "public", or to perhaps phrase this more accurately, between "institutional" and "non-institutional" actors.

The Cultures of Popular Culture

Biennial conference of the Royal Irish Academy Committee for Modern Languages, Literary and Cultural Studies

Just as the term Popular Culture describes the widest range of practices, Popular Culture Studies cover the most heterogeneous objects. While this very diversity makes it exciting as a research field, it presents a challenge in terms of methods and approaches. To promote scientific exchanges at international level, Popular Culture Studies need elements of comparability and theorization. The biennial conference of the Royal Irish Academy, hosted by the School of Modern Languages at Queen’s University Belfast, intends to offer a forum for discussion between academics, teaching and researching in the fields of Popular Cultures. It will consider the benefits of studying Popular Cultures in Modern Languages Studies and seek to map current areas of research. It presents a distinctive opportunity to discuss corpora and contrast approaches.

Contrôle et/ou transparence des finances publiques dans l’Europe des 17^e-19^e siècle ». Les contributions seront discutées dans le cadre d’une journée d’études organisée au printemps 2014 et destinée à être publiée sous forme de numéro thématique par la revue.

This conference seeks to bring together scholars working on topics related to the role played by the six Non-Naturals in health maintenance in the late-medieval and early modern period. It is well-known that health was thought to depend on the regulation of the six key factors affecting body functions: the air one breathes, sleep, food and drink, evacuations, movement and emotions. In pre-modern medicine careful management of these spheres of life was regarded as crucial if one wished to prevent disease.

Two professorships are available at the Courtauld Institute to present the best recent scholarship on historical American art. A twelve-week professorship requires administering one full-term course integrated with the institute’s curriculum and participating in other scholarly activities. A one-week intensive professorship entails a public scholarly event, a seminar, and a special visit to a London gallery, archive, collection, or library relevant to American art history. Accidents and Emergencies

Risk, Welfare and Safety in Europe and North America, c. 1750-2000

The aim of this conference is to take stock of the present by focusing on modern Europe and North America from roughly 1750 onwards. It welcomes historians from all sub-fields (social, medical, cultural, etc.), scholars from other disciplines such as sociology and cultural studies. Risk, welfare and safety have long been sites of historical inquiry. This conference takes this literature as its point of departure, and encourages both general and trans-national appraisals of the history and nature of modern "risk societies", as well as accounts which focus on particular technologies, practices and discourses. In sum, the aim of "Accidents and Emergencies" is to: rethink the history of risk, welfare and safety; encourage a more integrated approach to their empirical study and conceptualisation; open up new historical and sociological perspectives through which we might better grasp the present.
