  Doctoral research from day to day

  Le doctorant, comme tous jeunes chercheurs, passe par une phase d’apprentissage et de socialisation au sein du monde de la recherche scientifique. Une première thématique abordera ce-dernier point en traitant des processus de socialisation au sein de centres de recherche. De plus, les doctorants et chercheurs pointent régulièrement une forme de fusion entre leur vie de travail et leur vie privée, comme si les espaces ne se différentiaient plus. Il en résulte de nombreuses contraintes pesant sur l’individu, faisant passer cette notion comme un nouvel enjeu de société. Un échange convoquera la notion d’intersectionnalité dans les sciences sociales et ses enjeux quant aux conditions de production du savoir. Enfin, une dernière intervention abordera la problématique de l'écriture d'une thèse - les spécifités, l'agencement, ... -  et son rôle dans la formation du chercheur.

  Going to and Coming from the Field: Ethical, Emotional and Practical Challenges

  L’institut IACCHOS de l’université catholique de Louvain (Belgique) organise une conférence internationale sur les « Défis éthiques, émotionnels et pratiques de la recherche de terrain » à Louvain-la-Neuve. Cette conférence réunira des chercheur(e)s de diverses disciplines en sciences sociales adoptant des méthodes qualitatives comme quantitatives. Il sera l’occasion de discuter des multiples défis, éthiques, émotionnels et pratiques, rencontrés sur le terrain de recherche.

  Technology, Scale, and Difference in Contemporary Anthropology

  What challenges for contemporary anthropology?

  Without idealizing, exaggerating, or demonizing them, it is certainly the case that information and communication technologies are transforming the world and its inhabitants. While these transformations are taking place with a rapidity that can make their ethnographic analysis seem impossible, the starting point of our conceptual framework is that it is not only feasible but imperative that we better understand the multiple and often-unexpected character of these transformations. In particular, the emergence of online and mobile technologies compels rethinking questions of globalization that were a major theme of anthropological inquiry in the 1990s. In light of these various concerns, we open two lines of inquiry for the Singleton Chair 2013: one focusing on spatiotemporal transformations, and the second focusing on questions of difference.
