  Black populations in France

  New historical and historiographical dimensions (2013/2014)

  Depuis quelques années, des travaux étudient les formes de racialisation subies ou revendiquées par certains groupes dans la société française, en particulier par les populations noires. Ils invitent également à analyser les usages sociaux de la notion de race (entendue comme un fait social et non biologique) en France et ils interrogent de façon générale la place à accorder à la « question raciale » dans l’historiographie française. Quelle histoire sociale des populations noires ces travaux permettent-ils de construire ? Dans quelle mesure, la catégorie « populations noires » est-elle pertinente et que peut-elle apporter ? Comment analyser la pluralité dynamique des positionnements ? Le séminaire réunira des chercheurs français et des chercheurs américains spécialistes de la France et plus familiers de la tradition historiographique des African American Studies. Il voudrait également être le lieu d’un dialogue entre historiens, sociologues et spécialistes de science politique.

  Uganda and the World

  The goal of this one-day conference is to consider the evolution of Uganda’s international relations and its role in the world since the end of the Cold War. The conference will focus mainly on the following topics:  Relations with Uganda’s African neighbours; the Lord’s Resistance Army and its impact in the region; and foreign aid and relations with the developped world.

  Oases in globalization: ruptures and continuities

  This conference aims to provide answers to these broad questions, analyze the local impacts of the inclusion / exclusion of the oases in / out of the globalization process. The conference, held over two days, will focus on the following topics: oases in globalized trade networks ; the internal organization of global oasis: centers, margins, peripheries ; and ruptures and discontinuities in oases in a context of resource scarcity.
