Terra Foundation Fellowships at the Smithsonian American Art Museum
The Terra Foundation Fellowships in American Art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum seek to foster a cross-cultural dialogue about the history of art of the United States up to 1980. They support work by scholars from abroad who are researching American art or by U.S. scholars who are investigating international contexts for American art. Fellowships are residential and support full-time independent and dissertation research.

2015 FSAC / ACEF Annual Meeting
In accordance with the theme of “Capital Ideas” for the 2015 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, the Folklore Studies Association of Canada / l’Association canadienne d’ethnologie et de folklore has selected “Mediations” as the theme for our 2015 annual conference program. The theme of “Mediations” is an invitation for scholars and students of folklore, popular culture, and cultural heritage to examine how the transmission of knowledge and ideas emerges from a complex background of skills, traditions and performances. As cultural forms, practices, representations and traditions are constantly going through processes of translation, adaptation, and mediation, this entails that, paradoxically, practices of cultural conservation and transmission often rely on technological innovations and the creation and extension of new infrastructures of mediation.

Tourism Gentrification in the Metropolis
American Association of Geographers (AAG) Annual Meeting, 21-25 April 2015, Chicago
This session intends to explain the multiple and complex relationships between tourism and gentrification in the contemporary metropolis. Several questions arise. How does tourism gentrification manifest itself and how does it affect the urban landscapes? What are the impacts for urban design and planning? Who are the actors, the beneficiaries and the victims of tourism gentrification? How do local (tourism) actors cope with tourism gentrification phenomena? What is the impact on local economies, urban functions and services? What are the outcomes for intra-metropolitan territories? What does it mean in terms of metropolitan governance?

Enjeux éthiques de la justice ethnoculturelle

La notion de justice ethnoculturelle se décline de deux manières. Elle désigne d’une part les formes « endogènes » ou « locales » de compréhension et d’exercice de la justice qui ont inspiré de nouvelles modalités de la justice, autant dans les pays occidentaux (justice juvénile ou communautaire, médiation conjugale, médiation entre victimes et criminels) que dans les pays du Sud où sont réactualisées des formes traditionnelles de justice (tribunaux gacaca au Rwanda, Bashingantahe au Burundi, etc.). Ce sont des figures ethnoculturelles de la justice. Elle désigne d’autre part, la prise en compte de la diversité ethnique et des droits des minorités dans le droit et dans les institutions politiques. Il s’agit de figures de la justice ethnoculturelle. L’intention de ce dossier est d’identifier et d’analyser les enjeux éthiques de la justice ethnoculturelle et de ses formes.

Bourses d'excellence 2014 du CIEQ pour nouveaux doctorants en études québécoises
Le Centre interuniversitaire d’études québécoises offre deux bourses d’excellence aux nouveaux doctorants en études québécoises. Ces bourses, d’une valeur de 15 000$ chacune, ont pour objectif d’encourager la recherche dans les champs d’expertise du CIEQ et de soutenir les étudiants qui s’inscrivent à l’automne 2014 à l’UQTR au programme de doctorat en études québécoises (http://eq.cieq.ca). Elles s’adressent aux nouveaux étudiants qui s’engagent à soumettre à l’automne 2014 une demande de bourses auprès des organismes subventionnaires (CRSH-FRQSC).

La question du sexe et de la sexualité a toujours été présente, bien qu’elle ait été réprimée ou autorisée suivant les époques. En tant que phénomène d’accélération, la mondialisation a multiplié les débats sur la question sexuelle et rendu visibles les différences au sein des cultures et entre les cultures. La société civile transnationale, une des expressions les plus distinctes de la mondialisation, a produit des discours et des identités sur la sexualité, qui, par l’organisation de mouvements sociaux, traversent maintenant les frontières sans difficulté aucune, si bien qu’aujourd’hui on ne parle plus de sexualité au singulier.

Heritage and cultural diversity
Tenth International Conference of Young Heritage Researchers
City of one hundred spires, island or metropolis: Montreal has no one single descriptive title or nickname. The difficulty of attaching a label to the city is symptomatic of the identity of Montreal, which remains a city of diversity par excellence; the fact that it harbours the only “historic and natural district,” classified according to the former Cultural Property Act, and the National Historic Site of Canada called The Main, deemed a “corridor of immigration,” is just another sign. For the Tenth International Conference of Young Heritage Researchers, we are inviting doctoral and postdoctoral students, among others, to be inspired by the spirit of the host city and to reflect upon heritage and diversity. The conference will be held from October 3 to 5, 2014, at the Université du Québec à Montréal, under the scientific supervision of the Canada Research Chair in Urban Heritage (Luc Noppen, Université du Québec à Montréal), PARVI, the Interuniversity Research Group Concerning Landscape Representation, the City and Urban Identities (Lucie K. Morisset, Université du Québec à Montréal), and their partners.

Cultural spaces and issues in Louisiana, from its foundation to the present day
Depuis le XVIIIe siècle, la Louisiane a occupé et investi des espaces variés ; espaces géographiques, certes, mais également symboliques. La diversité et la complexité des espaces et des expériences en Louisiane ont soulevé et soulèvent encore aujourd’hui bien des enjeux en histoire culturelle. Cette journée d’étude vise à présenter une mise au point des avancées historiographiques. L’événement viendra également inaugurer le volet recherche du Centre interordre d’études louisianaises de l’université de Sherbrooke et du Cégep de Sherbrooke.

The aim of the symposium is to explore micropolitical agency in language policy from a variety of points of view: narratology, didactics, theory, anthropological linguistics, language and area studies, corpus linguistics, language economics, etc.
