  Regional producers or global players? The internationalization of companies in the 19th and 20th centuries

  An international conference on economic history dealing with the question "Regional producers or global players ?" will take place in Mainz on October 6-7 2014. Until now neglected, research on the economic history of the Rhineland-Palatine area will be presented. However, the conference is not limited on the history of this region - in fact, companies from this origin will be compared to producers from other regions and countries. The increasing internationalization of companies is currently an important field of research among historians. From the second half of the 19th century to World War I, the interdependence of the West European economy grew strongly. In the second half of the 20th century, we can observe another globalization push. We were able to win internationally renowned researchers for the papers.   Paper Europe: European projects in the mid-19th century

  Le projet Eurespro repose sur la collaboration étroite entre l’Institut d’histoire de l’université du Luxembourg (unité de recherche IPSE : « Identités, Politiques, Sociétés, Espaces ») et l’Institut de recherches historiques du Septentrion (IRHIS)-Lille III. Ce projet se veut une réflexion collective sur l’importance du XIXe siècle dans la maturation d’une Europe unie. Eurespro entend revisiter ce foisonnement de projets, cette « Europe de papiers » en vue d’en dégager les frontières et les fondements, la part de réalisme ou d’utopie, de propositions concrètes ou de rêves.

  State, work and society (France and England, 18th-19th centuries)

  Socio-economic history workshop Université Paris 8 (IDHES, EHESS et ENS)

  On examinera les modalités d'organisation et de régulation des relations de travail en France, Angleterre et dans le monde atlantique, à partir de divers dossiers : apprentissage, travail des enfants, corporations de métier, travail libre ou contraint, et enfin propriété technique et industrielle. On rendra compte aussi des travaux récents, français et britanniques, dans le domaine de l'histoire politique, économique et sociale. Sont prévus en outre, au second semestre, des exposés de chercheurs étrangers: Bert de Munck (apprentissage) et Peter Kirby (travail des enfants).
