  European sexologies, Historical and social approaches

  This conference seeks to assess the current state of research in a thriving field and to create a European research network on the history of sexology. The term sexology here is understood in a broad sense (as scholarly discourse on human sexuality) and the period covered will be large, from the nineteenth century to the early 1970s. The historiography of this field, which like historiography on sexuality dates back to the 1970s and 1980s, is currently undergoing considerable change, through the influence of social and feminist history on the sciences. This has resulted in less focus on the study of paradigms and scientific pronouncements and instead privileged social and material histories of scholars and academic practices

  Masculinitites, femininities in the Middle Ages

  Dans les sociétés médiévales, le genre est un principe d’organisation sociale éminent qui structurait et rythmait la vie sociale. La façon dont les concepts de masculinité et de féminité sont construits et dont ils influençaient les réalités de vie des hommes et des femmes de leur temps, sont des mécanismes qui favorisaient une conception sociale reposant sur des structures binaires. Le colloque « Masculinité(s) – féminité(s) au Moyen Âge » cherche à encourager la discussion entre jeunes chercheurs / chercheuses et experts / expertes dans ce champ de recherche.

  What it meant to be a Parisienne in the Ancien Régime: women in the city

  Middle Ages - 18th century

  Dans un billet récent paru dans le Journal du CNRS, le géographe Yves Raibaud formule le constat que la ville du XXI^e siècle est « une ville faite pour les garçons ». Si un regard genré sur l’espace urbain permet aujourd’hui d’interroger les pratiques et les politiques de laville, que peut nous apprendre l’histoire sur la place, l’activité et les représentations des femmes dans la ville ? Notre colloque voudrait ainsi, à partir d’approches pluridisciplinaires, penser les liens entre femmes et ville du Moyen Âge à la fin du XVIII^e siècle. Paris, en tant que centre urbain majeur et ville capitale du royaume, mais aussi en tant que creuset privilégié des modèles sociaux et culturels français, apparaît comme un lieu à la fois exemplaire et singulier pour tenter cette approche.

  Faces of Eros

  Journal of Phenomenological and Existential Theory and Culture

  Eros plays a central role in Western thought. In the philosophical and spiritual traditions, it usually refers to physical love and desire. Eros is a recurring character in the pre-Socratic cosmogonies, and it is the main impulse of the philosophical quest for truth in Plato’s Phaedrus. This Special Topics issue of PhænEx wishes to give a new impulse to philosophical reflections on this fundamental and ambiguous phenomenon, following an interdisciplinary perspective at the intersection of phenomenology, post-structuralism, and social sciences (psychology, sociology, sexology, anthropology, linguistics, etc.).
