Lors de cette journée, les auteurs des notices, après avoir présenté leur travail, échangeront avec des collègues commentateurs qui porteront un regard extérieur et critique sur le travail de cette anthologie.

Armed conflicts in Latin America in the 19th century
Le symposium propose une approche des conflits armés (révolutions, guerres civiles, soulèvements, révoltes, émeutes, « pronunciamientos ») en Amérique latine / Amérique Ibérique pendant le processus de construction et de consolidation de l’État, depuis la période qui a suivi les indépendances et jusqu’au début du XXe siècle. Il s’intéresse à la circulation d’acteurs, de pratiques et de concepts politiques dans le cadre des espaces transnationaux, tout en prenant de la distance face à une histoire strictement « nationale », politique et militaire.

Andean America - from concept to project
Local representations and the exterior gaze (18th-19th century)
Afin de contribuer au renouvellement des interprétations sur l’indépendance des pays andins en vue des célébrations de 2021, on dépassera les explications qui ont marqué la seconde moitié du XXe siècle, à savoir de pays à la dérive et d’une indépendance concédée en révisant deux siècles d'histoire coloniale et républicaine, des Lumières à la Belle Époque selon la périodisation française. Par leur approche pluridisciplinaire, les communications s’appuieront sur des textes inédits ou inexplorés, des auto-documents de nature non fictionnelle – rapports militaires, correspondances diplomatiques, chroniques religieuses, récits de voyage, mémoires, etc. – ou des documents iconographiques.

Le colloque qui se tiendra à l'université de Lausanne en Suisse les 24 et 25 mars 2017 a pour objectif de relancer la réflexion sur les rapports entre politique, religion, parenté et sexualité dans toute leur complexité, en privilégiant une dimension sociale du domaine sexuel, c’est-à-dire en tenant compte des pratiques des groupes observés, de leurs conditions de vie concrètes ainsi que des stratégies subjectives déployées par les acteurs-actrices de la vie sexuelle.

Recognition and artistic influence in French creation
Cette journée d’étude a pour objectif d’analyser, en prenant pour point de départ le premier congrès des américanistes en 1875, les apports fondamentaux de la présence latino-américaine – du Mexique à la Terre de Feu – en France. En partant d’une histoire croisée horizontale et multilatérale, ces interventions mettront en lumière les réseaux de médiateurs et les apports esthétiques et techniques d’artistes latino-américains dans la sphère artistique française. Elles questionneront aussi les processus de modifications de la perception de l’Amérique latine en France du XIXe siècle à nos jours.

In this year marking the 170th anniversary of Carl Fabergé, the museum dedicated its annual academic conference to Carl Fabergé, his firm's activities in Russia and abroad, its place within Russian culture as well as to Fabergé's influence on modern and contemporary jeweler’s art.

The development of art history as a discipline during the 19th century has been variously associated with the politics of national identity, the needs of a growing bourgeois public in search of cultural capital, or of an expanding art market. However, the role of art training, and art practitioners themselves in the shaping of the discipline remains unexamined. Courses in art history had been systematically introduced in the curricula of art and architecture academies since the late 18th century, and spaces of art education count among the first institutional homes of the discipline, well before the establishment of autonomous university chairs. This conference aims to explore the interactions and productive tensions between art practice and art scholarship in the 19th century.

El coloquio sobre “Discursos conservadores en el mundo ibérico, siglos XIX y XX” reúne a reconocidos especialistas internacionales en la historia de las ideas y de los movimientos conservadores, para fomentar la discusión sobre similitudes y diferencias de los diversos discursos conservadores en América Latina, España y Portugal. El evento enfocará cuatro aspectos: la formación y el desarrollo de los discursos conservadores, su relación con el catolicismo, su carácter, a menudo, elitista y su orientación anticomunista.

The Emancipation of Bound Laborers in the Americas before the Abolition of Slavery
What were the modalities of the emancipation of unfree workers? Which factors motivated the adoption of legislation regulating emancipations? Is it possible to establish a typology of the emancipators and of the emancipated servants and slaves? To what extent did slaves and indentured servants take part in their own liberation? Did the introduction of slavery provide any negotiating power to white servants, for instance by reducing their length of service? Did the practice of emancipation evolve in reaction to the advent of abolitionism, especially after the movement gained momentum and radicalized itself?

While historians should take into account the movements in space that constantly transform sciences, they should not lose sight of the specific locations dedicated to the daily work of scientists. In scientific facilities (museums, laboratories, hospitals, etc.), modern scientists use their research instruments, meet with members of their networks, teach, and interact with various actors from outside of their scientific community. Participants in this symposium will seek how to write the history of this dynamic between circulation and institutions of science.

Militantism and Re-Compositions in Latin America
Re-composition of Militantism, Militant Trajectories and Constructions of Political Elites
This dossier aims to reflect equally on two issues central to the political reconfiguration of formerly militant activism in the most recent period of Latin American history. The first concerns the phenomena of political transformation of former militants and the networks and routes used by former militant actors to politically transform themselves. Many of these have been structured around the strategic positioning of radical political commitments, in addition to the development and integration of new generations of activists into partisan life. The notion of re-composition (translated from the French reconversion) seems appropriate in order to elaborate specifically the political landscape of formal and state connections in different cultural contexts of militantism. The second issue concerns the reconfiguration of militancy in societies that have undergone neoliberal reforms imposed in the last decades of the past century and the development of new approaches to the resistance to the neoliberal state.

This conference intents to favor the historical perspective of the longue durée, by examining not only what defines Canada in 2017, but by comparing this with the way it was defined in 1867, at the time of Confederation, as well as in 1967, at the time of the centennial. To do so, the conference will be organized around three guiding lines that correspond to the values, the practices and the representations through which Canada is defined.

The conference seeks to examine the shaping of art history as a discipline during the 19th century in relation to artistic training and exchanges between artists and scholars. The development of art history has been associated with an array of socio-political and economic factors such as the formation of a bourgeois public, the politics of national identity and state legitimacy or the needs of an expanding art market. This conference aspires to explore yet another, less studied dimension: the extent to which the historical study of art was also rooted in an intention to inform contemporary artistic production.

Statistical and Cartographical Practices in Latin America
Mid-18th to mid-20th Century
La revue Histoire et Mesure lance un appel à contributions pour un numéro thématique consacré aux « Pratiques statistiques et cartographiques en Amérique latine du milieu du XVIIIe siècle au milieu du XXe siècle », dont la publication est prévue en juin 2017. L’histoire de la mesure a connu un développement considérable dans les cinquante dernières années et a largement bénéficié des avancées des sciences sociales pendant la même période, au point de se transformer en une socio-histoire de la mesure ou, pour parler en termes desrosiériens, en une socio-histoire de la quantification. Les chercheurs européens et états-uniens ont été particulièrement actifs sur ce plan, contribuant ainsi à éclairer le rôle du chiffre dans ce que nous pourrions appeler le Nord de l’Occident.

The deportation and exile of elected revolutionary representatives of the Assembly (1789-1830)
Le 12 janvier 1816, une loi d’amnistie est accordée par Louis XVIII pour « tous ceux qui, directement ou indirectement, ont pris part à la rébellion et à l’usurpation de Napoléon Bonaparte, sauf les exceptions ci-après ». Parmi ces dernières figurent quelque 170 conventionnels régicides. Pour autant, si importants soient en nombre les effets de la loi de 1816, elle n’écarte pas de Paris des députés ou d’anciens députés pour la toute première fois. Les luttes politiques et la radicalisation progressive de la Révolution ont entraîné bien d’autres mobilités de députés.
