European integration - myths and limits
Europe philosophy chair
Le cycle de conférences mensuelles vise à approfondir un thème spécifique, en invitant des chercheurs à exposer leur interprétation et soumettant celle-ci à la discussion approfondie d’un public informé et intéressé. « Intégration européennes : mythes et limites », tel est le titre du grand séminaire de 2016-2017. Chaque séance sera consacrée à la discussion d’un texte, en présence de deux intervenants : un chercheur affirmé présentera l’un de ces travaux, et un doctorant, post-doctorant ou jeune docteur commentera et lancera le débat avec le public. L’entrée à l’ensemble des activités est libre et gratuite - chercheurs, étudiants et intéressés à l’Europe sont tous les bienvenus de se joindre au débat.

À l'occasion du 70e anniversaire de l'arrivée à Paris des boursiers grecs du Gouvernement français embarqués à bord du Mataroa pour venir étudier loin de leur pays où la guerre civile menaçait, les Archives nationales organisent en partenariat avec leurs homologues grecques un colloque sur les relations franco-helléniques au XXe siècle, de l'entrée en guerre de la Grèce de Vénizélos au départ du pouvoir de François Mitterrand et Constantin Caramanlis.

Ce deuxième séminaire s'inscrit dans le cadre d'un cycle de séminaires 2016-2017 sur « L'intégration européenne - mythes et limites ». Pendant l'année 2016-2017, nous nous pencherons, à chaque fois, sur un texte différent, que nous discuterons en présence de l'auteur·e. Cette fois-ci, le débat s'articulera autour de l'article suivant : MAIRET, Gérard, La fable du monde : enquête philosophique sur la liberté de notre temps, Paris, Gallimard, 2005, pp. 278-311.

Relations between the European Union and Iran - comparative approaches
Le 14 juillet 2015, suite à plusieurs années d'âpres négociations, le plan d'action globale commun signé à Vienne a marqué l'aboutissement des relations diplomatiques menées entre l'Iran et le groupe E3/UE+3 sur le sujet du nucléaire iranien. Depuis, certaines organisations internationales, au titre desquelles figure notamment l'Union européenne (ci-après « UE »), ont progressivement levé certaines de leurs mesures restrictives liées au nucléaire. Les relations entretenues entre l'UE et l'Iran sont donc amenées à changer progressivement de nature. Rompant ainsi avec la décennie précédente caractérisée par une interruption du dialogue dans les domaines autres que ceux relatifs au nucléaire, les nouveaux défis apparaissent.

Partant du constat que la Méditerranée est un objet historique et historiographique attractif mais souvent défini par défaut, et constatant le très petit nombre de lieux d’échange continu entre modernistes et contemporanéistes en histoire méditerranéenne, les organisateurs de ce séminaire proposent une approche des transformations de l’espace méditerranéen sur le long terme (du XVIe au XXe siècle).

This meeting wants to carry out a state of the art on the history of medieval diplomacy, a topic on methodological renewal process. For this, it will focus on aspects such as new historiographical tendencies the wide range of sources available (literature, archives, letters...), sociology of the protagonists (clergy, nobility, lawyers, merchants...) and the different political contexts of medieval diplomacy (papacy, kingdoms, cities...).

A century and a half of diplomatic presence - France and Germany since 1871
Cette journée d'étude sera l'occasion de retracer un siècle et demi de présence diplomatique française en Allemagne depuis l'unification du Reich. Les lieux de cette présence – Berlin tout d'abord mais aussi Bonn et Munich –, les acteurs et les évolutions des pratiques diplomatiques seront au cœur de la réflexion. Mettant l'accent sur le quotidien des émissaires français, l'expérience de l'immersion en terre allemande et le travail interculturel qu'induit le travail diplomatique, cette journée s'incrit dans le renouveau contemporain de l'histoire de la diplomatie. Elle se déroulera dans un cadre permettant un dialogue, ouvert au public, entre chercheurs et praticiens de la diplomatie.

The Price of Peace: Modernising the Ancien Régime?

In many historiographic traditions, the so-called "Restoration" has been depicted as an awkward interval between the Napoleonic Wars and the age of nationalism. This international conference has the ambition of breaking down old myths and stereotypes about the ‘Restoration’ in order to think more broadly and openly about the key transitions and issues. The conference will revolve around the provocative historiographical issue of whether the post-Napoleonic order represented an attempt to reconcile the heritage of the Ancien Régime with a deeply transformed world. Topics explored by panels of invited experts from across Europe will include Rethinking the "Restoration", New departures in international relations, Constitutions vs. Charters, Rebirth of composite monarchies, Before and Beyond the Nation, Historicising the Ancien Régime?, New borders and old identities.

The Allied Occupation of Germany Revisited
New Research on the Western Zones of Occupation, 1945-1949
The Allied occupation of Western Germany after the Second World War has recently seen a revival of interest among historians. This two-day international conference will showcase new research from scholars based across the globe and provide a forum for the presentation of innovative approaches to the history of the three western zones of occupation. It also aims to stimulate dialogue between historians of the different zones of occupation and so bring together hitherto almost entirely segregated historiographies.

Global Internet Governance as a Diplomacy Issue
The First European Multidisciplinary Conference on Global Internet Governance – Actors, Regulations, Transactions and Strategies (GIG-ARTS 2017)
“Digital diplomacy” has recently been the subject of significant debates, events and activities at a variety of governance sites. The concept is often used without having been clearly defined and delimited. For some, it is restricted to the use of digital means, especially social networks, by diplomats to practice a kind of “Public Diplomacy 2.0”. In others’ views, it extends to foreign affairs and international relations with regard to all matters related to the digital environment, including internet governance. There is undoubtedly a need to better understand recent transformations of diplomacy in the digital era, their drivers and their nature, whether and how they might change European and transnational power relations and, ultimately, which values they carry and channel on the global scene.

25 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, this conference aims at investigating its transversal consequences from two original standpoints: patterns of integration/disintegration combined to logics of connection / disconnection. These issues have various expressions in societal, normative, linguistic, regional or international fields. The conference will hence tackle a general question: how do political choices, economic contingencies or social phenomena foster or disrupt all kinds of links throughout the post-soviet area?

Le Fonds Croix-Rouge française lance son appel post-doctoral pour la bourse Malakoff Médéric sur les migrations dans le Nord de la France, avec comme thématique de recherche : « Entre survie sociale et survie sanitaire, comment allier stratégies humanitaires et sociales face à l'afflux de migrants ? Cas des camps de migrants du Nord de la France ». Cet appel a pour but de décrypter les conditions de vie et de prise en charge des réfugiés et migrants, en étudiant leurs parcours, leurs réalités de vie dans les camps ainsi que les différents types d'aide qui leur sont prodigués.

A Realm of Memory of the Cold War
Whether or not “the entire world” was looking at Berlin, as Reuter asserted, is one of the central questions to be addressed at our conference. Starting from the “frontline city” of Berlin, we will cast our glance to West Germany and its neighboring countries in order not only to frame the Berlin Airlift as a transnational memorial of the Cold War, but also to address, from outside, the question of whether Berlin was really the international focus of the East-West conflict back then, as the press and academia so often portray it.

Alors que la notion de neutralité est pensée et pratiquée à l’origine par les Européens pour eux mêmes, la colonisation, les indépendances américaines et, plus largement, l’émergence d’acteurs non-européens élargissent la perspective dans laquelle elle doit être envisagée à partir du XVIIIe siècle. L’objet de ce colloque est de s’interroger, sur la longue période, sur la manière dont la neutralité élaborée à l’échelle de l’Europe a pu être appliquée, adaptée ou contredite dans des espaces lointains et par des acteurs non-européens.

Spies, counterspies and spying in WWI
La première guerre mondiale est l’occasion d’une expérience d’occupation militaire longue de territoires appartenant aux États belligérants ou envahis. L’espionnage devient une préoccupation, tant des occupants que des occupés et les quatre années voient évoluer les modes de recrutements, les techniques, les modes opératoires, le profil individuel et social des agents ainsi que l'ampleur des réseaux constitués. Les participants à la journée d'études veulent se pencher de manière transnationale sur ce laboratoire qu'a pu constituer l'occupation de la Belgique et du Nord de la France. Partant d'activités menées avec un amateurisme sensible, il s'agira d'observer, au fil de la dramatisation d'une guerre qui dure, la professionnalisation du « métier » d'espion et les jeux de brouillages complexes entre espionnage et contrespionnage, patriotisme ou opportunisme, chez les civils et militaires, hommes et femmes impliqués dans le « grand jeu ».

This conference intends to continue the tradition of the Hispanic-Dutch-Belgian meetings and will bring together a number of established and early-career researchers working in the field of the institutional history of the Habsburg Low Countries from the 16th to the 18th centuries. It aims to draw attention to a broad range of political, cultural, religious, legal, and military institutions by focusing on the enriching approaches that have shaped historical research on institutional history in the past few decades. At the same time, it hopes to bring into the limelight some exciting new (and often interdisciplinary) perspectives that characterize current research in the field.
