  Thinking about Postwar Latin America (19th and 20th centuries)

  Special issue of Atlante – Revue d’étude romanes (nº 14, printemps 2021)

  The Latin American countries that emerged from the disintegration of the Portuguese and Spanish empires were born in a context of independence wars that lasted years, if not decades, and whose civil character and the violence that they generated, as well as the complexity of the dynamics at work, have been understood in a new light by Latin Americanist historiography in America and Europe. Postwar experiences are quite another matter. Over the past decades in France, and more broadly in Europe, this field has expanded, as shown by innovating studies of 20th century European conflicts, as well as the wars of decolonization, whether in social, cultural or political history, or even international relations. With regards to Latin America, the period following the Cold War, characterized by military dictatorships and civil wars, has been studied in terms of democratic transitions and problems associated with human rights and transitional justice.

  Issues de processus de désintégration des empires européens portugais et espagnols, l’Amérique latine et les nations qui la composent ont été portées sur les fonds baptismaux dans des contextes de guerres d’indépendance de plusieurs années (voire décennies) dont le caractère civil et la violence qu’elles ont engendrée, ainsi que la complexité des dynamiques à l’œuvre, ont été appréhendés de façon renouvelée par l’historiographie latino-américaniste, tant qu’en Amérique qu’en Europe. Il en va tout autrement des après-guerres. Cette journée d’études exploratoire vise donc à dresser un premier état des lieux historiographique sur ces questions dans les Amériques, en prenant pour borne de départ la première mobilisation armée du XIX^e, à savoir les invasions anglaises de 1806 à Buenos Aires, jusqu’à la guerre du Chaco (1932-1935).

  Religious encounters - between coexistence and cohabitation

  Dans la continuité du colloque international, « Pouvoir, expressions et représentations », organisé au sein du Calhiste en 2015, le colloque international Rencontres religieuses : entre coexistence et cohabitation invite les chercheurs américains et espagnols, et des sphères culturelles qui leur sont proches, à se pencher sur les notions de laïcité, de religion, et sur les rapports que celles-ci peuvent entretenir avec les institutions politiques ou spirituelles. Nous aborderons également les notions de cohabitation et de coexistence, aussi bien d’un point de vue diachronique que synchronique, en prêtant une attention particulière aux arguments et aux contextes qui rendent possibles ces rencontres ou qui, au contraire, provoquent des confrontations entre les différents points de vue.

  To reconcile and to reincorporate

  Discourse, ceremonies and practices in and beyond the Iberic Monarchies

  In recent years historiography has been slowly acknowledging the potential of civil societies to restore concord after profound divisions. It also has uncovered the pacification strategies of authorities to reconcile and reincorporate individuals and social groups after periods of contestation and revolt. These complex processes are crucial to better understand the history of the Iberic monarchies, which have been able to develop a long-term government despite many crises of different origin and outlook. Hence, this conference will be focused on the themes of reconciliation and reincorporation from following four perspectives: Words, discourses and emotions (semantics and sentiments), Negotiating reconciliation (promotors and strategies), Making reconciliation work (agents and mediators, processes and forms), In the margin of reconciliations (the undecided and excluded)

  Quatorzièmes Journées internationales de sociologie du travail (JIST) 2014

  Les quatorzièmes Journées internationales de sociologie du travail (JIST) organisées à Lille les 17, 18 et 19 juin 2014 invitent les chercheurs à analyser les mondes du travail et de l’emploi à partir des marges, envisagées en termes de processus, de dialectique, de déplacement de frontières et de rapports aux centres. Une des ambitions de ces quatorzièmes journées est de saisir – dans les tensions entre marges et centres définies pour chaque objet – ce qui permet de comprendre les sociétés au travail et leurs transformations récentes. Les JIST font une place importante à la comparaison internationale et à la diversité des analyses mobilisées en termes de classe, de genre, de race, de génération, de territoire, etc.
