Racisme environnemental et inégalités de santé

Le but de ce numéro de la revue Socioscapes est d’analyser de manière critique la relation entre le racisme, la santé et l’environnement, en particulier la relation entre le racisme environnemental et les inégalités de santé, l’imbrication des maux environnementaux avec les maux sociaux du racisme et du capitalisme, à travers la collecte d’études théoriques ou empiriques. Selon une perspective multidisciplinaire, ce numéro de la revue accueille des contributions de différents domaines d’études, y compris (mais sans s’y limiter) la sociologie, les sciences politiques, l’anthropologie, l’économie politique, la géographie, l’épidémiologie, la santé publique, les études urbaines et rurales, les études environnementales, les études sur la justice environnementale, la théorie raciale critique, critical race feminism, l’écologie politique, l’écoféminisme.

The Iberian East Indies

Frontiers, Actors, Dynamics

The historiography of imperial Spain and of the Iberian-initiated first globalization has recently been renewed by the study of exchanges between Asia and America and of the Spanish Pacific. The purpose of this one-day seminar is to further this historiographical renewal and to shed some new light on the Iberian East Indies, at a time when Spain and Portugal were the two main European powers in the region. The focus will be put on exchanges, dynamics of cooperation and rivalry between empires and also between various key actors: missionaries, merchants, soldiers and officials. The aim is thus to improve our understanding of the multiple connections between the Asian territories of both empires.

The colloquium is dedicated to the problems of the material record generated by the State during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. It is a period of transition to the Modern State and it is a moment of intensification of the material manifestations of a state nature. The colloquium is organised in three sessions: the first session will deal with the material exhibition of royal power. The second session focuses on the territorialisation of the State. The third one is centered on the autonomous development of the State beyond the monarchy.

Sources and methods for the study of economic inequality in preindustrial societies: The Iberian Peninsula (1300-1600)

The course is organized around three daily sessions, in the morning and afternoon. In the morning, well-known scholars in this field will be in charge of introducing several questions as to economic inequalities. Session 1 will be focused on documentary sources, while Session 2 on methods, and Session 3 on case studies. Afternoon sessions will be open to the participation of PhD candidates and recent doctors in economic history or general history who wish to present their ongoing doctoral research for discussion with the rest of the participants.

Le travail numérique : plus d’autonomie ou un nouvel assujettissement du travail ?

Les deux dernières décennies ont vu de profondes transformations du travail, tant dans le processus d’organisation du travail que dans le fonctionnement du marché du travail. Parmi celles-ci, la plus récente et la plus rapide est l’informatisation du travail, en particulier la numérisation du travail. Une nouvelle frontière s'est ainsi ouverte dans le domaine du travail et, en même temps, dans l’exploitation et la précarité du travail, que la crise sanitaire et socio-économique actuelle élargit de façon démesurée. La praxis et le mythe du "smart working" sont les signes visibles d’une dynamique planétaire de matrice capitaliste qui, une fois de plus, envisage la libération et l’humanisation possibles du travail salarié dans le cadre d’une nouvelle, peut-être plus radicale, aliénation, atomisation et subordination du travail salarié aux impératifs du marché et du profit.

Contributions of articles for electronic journal Verbum et Lingua

The electronic magazine Verbum et Lingua: Didáctica, lengua y cultura will dedicate its 16th edition (July-December 2020) to the topic of Chican@s studies. Grosso modo, for Ornelas, Ramírez and Padilla (1975), the Chican@s studies have made a great effort to integrate four main constructs: race, class, culture and gender/sexuality. These constructs are present in the work of different artists who express their ideology in order to politicize and lead their community(ies) to change. According to Macias (2018), the Chican@s field of study seeks to make research holistic and multidisciplinary, as well as inclusive, comparative, grounded, up-to-date and critical. At the same time, it seeks to apply the results to social justice, education, as well as to the change of the global Chican@ communities.

Le droit, l’éthique et le terrain : qu’est-ce qui change dans les pratiques scientifiques ?

À la différence de l’ère analogique, où les règles juridiques n’étaient pas toujours connues, où leur interprétation se limitait à la question du droit d’auteur ou à celle du respect de la vie privée des personnes enregistrées dans les entretiens, et où l’anonymisation semblait la réponse à toutes les questions en suspens, le numérique a engagé une véritable réflexion sur ces questions, remettant en cause partie des méthodes de travail sur le terrain. Désormais, outre les nouvelles règles du RGDP – Règlement européen sur la protection des données, le.la chercheur.e doit savoir comment mettre en œuvre un plan de gestion de données ou quand informer la CNIL – Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés – des traitements des données personnelles mis en oeuvre. Il.Elle doit aussi prendre en compte les questions de citation des témoins, connaître les règles de durées conservation des archives comme l’invocation de l’exception historique ou de destruction… Le/la chercheur.e. peut-il.elle prendre une décision éclairée sur le terrain en étant pleinement au fait des droits, des devoirs et des conséquences de leur constitutions de corpus, des contraintes sur l’exploitation, la diffusion ou la transmission ? Quelles conséquences cela peut-il avoir sur les phases de collectes, d’archivage et de restitution ?

This Symposium will explore how digital media and new technologies have affected the ways through which musicians, producers and researchers experiment and engage with "traditional" musical forms, in Colombia and in other parts of the world. The participants are invited to share their research results and methodological experimentations in the field of applied ethnomusicology, music pedagogy, performance, digital audio production or digital humanities about the study of the impact of digital technologies about current musical practices. This Symposium will also include the presence of several local musicians and producers who will conduct workshops on "traditional" Colombian music and music from other countries of the global South.

Ao longo da segunda metade do século XX, houve uma reorientação do olhar humano e do interesse científico, o que aconteceu para observar e serem observado mais no espaço do que no tempo, como aconteceu anteriormente. En los últimos años, ha crecido enormemente el interés por el estudio de las creaciones artísticas, especialmente literarias, poniendo el foco en la simbología o la relevancia de los lugares. El crecimiento de disciplinas como las mencionadas puede ser percibido a través de su contacto con otras disciplinas emergentes, como las humanidades digitales, también de reciente aparición. La simbiosis entre ellas ha dado lugar a las humanidades espaciales o al deep mapping, entre otras. Cómo han evolucionado estas teorías en los últimos años, qué ha cambiado en nuestra concepción del término o cómo vivimos o nos relacionamos con el territorio?

This issue seeks to critically address power structures in audiovisual (re)productions in and from Latin America and discuss how these play a role in the societal construction and representation of individual and collective identities, the ‘us’ and the ‘other’. By doing so, it aims at understanding how these representations – and broader discourses associated therewith – can be critically examined through media productions (cinema, television, radio, photography etc.) and their use as historical sources.

There is more to space than rocket science. Historians, diplomats, economists, law students, political scientists and sociologists have all contributed to our understanding of the space age and its impact on our societies over the past decades. Sixty years on from the placing of the first human-made object in orbit around Earth, space is now an integral part of our daily lives. Space science and technology are projects for the whole of humankind, reaching not only outside Earth’s atmosphere, but also beyond our Solar System. While the technological and scientific challenges of working, living and travelling in space motivate students to pursue such studies, the impact of space activities on our lives on Earth, on relations between nations and organisations, and our collective recent history, provides fertile ground for students and scholars in the humanities to take up space-related subjects.

Five Centuries of Cultural Influence

Generations of scholars have studied the multi-faceted experiences of the Franciscans in Mexico and the ways in which the Franciscan order shaped New Spain and the early Mexican republic. This conference examines the range of Franciscan influence and analyzes new scholarship that focuses on the multiple discourses with which friars engaged native peoples, creole populations, the vice-regal authorities, and other actors throughout the Spanish empire. The conference brings together junior and senior scholars to study the long Franciscan experience in Mexico on the eve of the commemoration of the quincentenary of the Spanish — and thus the Franciscan— presence in Mexico.

Olhares sobre as Américas

Para seu numero 11, RITA se propõe de interrogar na sua seção Thema os vínculos entre poder e mídias nas Américas. Diferentes orientações podem ser evocadas, sem ser exclusivas. Artigos que tratarão da analise critica das mídias oficiais ou artigos sobre as mídias de oposição, em contextos históricos e geográficos variados, estão benvindos. Outras contribuições poderiam se interessar pelos efeitos das diferentes formas de tratamento mediático reservadas aos movimentos populares. Análises criticas sobre as relações entre mídias e poderes econômicos são também esperadas. O dossiê temático poderá também integrar reflexões sobre a recente diversificação das mídias de informação, tratando por exemplo do aparecimento de mídias “alternativas” na Internet ou do poder das fake news na construção das representações coletivas.

When anthropology meets geography

Discerning locally embedded, yet globally connected socio-territorial struggles

Identities are not only related to politics of assimilation and exclusion in the context of Nation-States, but also shape territorial configuration and arrangements in relation to geographical space. The latter becomes a territory for the accumulation of cultural symbols resulting from the different activities accomplished by a community living in that given space. In order to comprehend what drives various societies in resisting against the dispossession of land, in defending their resources and in opposing the political economies of States, new methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches are needed.
