Urban and architectural identities in Mediterranean cities
Identités urbaines et architecturales dans les villes méditerranéennes
The architectural and urban diversity characterising mediterranean city is inseparable from their identity. It seems clear at that this diversity and multiplicity of different identities shoud be considered as one of the greatest cultural and human values. The coexistence of forms in time and space, the blending of urban and architectural cultures, influences and contaminations, even the contrast and and contradictions of identity that are revealed in the mediterranean urban territory reflect the stratification of the city in its pragmatics implications and its identity meanings. Today, in a context of a competition and attractiveness betwen territories, several mediterranean cities are going through a period of profound changes. Faced with these transformations, the reference to "identity territories" (Troin, 2004) and the ability of the city to build an identity and speared it among the population are called into question.

Teaching Practices, Linguistic Challenges and Cultural Horizons
If telecollaboration is practiced at all levels of education, we would like to give it a broader dimension, as part of our colloquium, and to address it at the university level for the essential reason that the nature of event organized within this university, aspires to bring together colleagues around the world, around this theme, little known or practiced at the level of Algerian universities, while it has been the subject of experiments since over thirty years in Europe, America, Asia, and other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Sudan, five years after the independence of South Sudan
Which reconfigurations, transformations, and evolutions in the “North”?
South Sudan officially gained independence on the 9th July 2011. This was the outcome of the peace agreement signed in January 2005 and in accordance with the national referendum of January 2011. This historic event, which should have put an end on the historical conflict between the Northern and Southern regions and communities, constituted a real challenge in term of adaptation, resilience and innovation for the whole of the society. In this unprecedented context of the birth of a new national territory, and the remodelling of existing spatial and political configurations, South Sudan has logically been at the centre of attention – whether this be from political actors, researchers or humanitarian donors. However, the North has been profoundly affected by this rupture as well.

The First World War from Tripoli to Mogadishu (1912-1924)
"How, because of two wild beasts the world was set alight"
Writing the history of the first World War from an African perspective is the main ambition of this conference. The Global approach challenges the traditional center and periphery model. What we would like to suggest in this conference is the adoption of a combination of different scales of analysis: local, national and transnational. The goal of the conference is to bring together experts, academics, early-career historians and doctoral students from different disciplines to share new scholarly work and to enrich the history of the first World War in Africa and the Middle East.

Political and Social Restructuring Underway
The CEDEJ-Khartoum and the CFEE-Addis Ababa are organizing a roundtable conference in Addis Ababa on June 10-12, 2013 regarding Sudans’ reconstruction. The separation between the two Sudans in July 2011 opens new research fields in social sciences. The analysis themes regarding ongoing political and social restructuration are various, and for a majority of them, not much studied, given the recentness of the partition. Therefore, the CEDEJ-Khartoum and the CFEE-Addis Ababa launched a scientific dialogue process on Sudans. That work finds its originality in the will to give an academic content to the debate, often missing in official talks. Moreover, this process of prolific scientific meetings contributes to compensate for the lack of current and searched academic works led by Sudanese and South Sudanese researchers together. The 2013 conference aims at opening the debate to a large panel discussion, in the perspective of publishing the conference’s proceedings.

Nairobi
The fiftieth anniversary of the African Independence has been an occasion for the East African countries and their diasporas, the international academic community and the former colonial nations to assess the economic, social and political achievements and failures of the past fifty years. However, such inventories tend to focus on the upheavals of the social, economic and political structures, sometimes on the memory of the fathers of the nation and former grand nationalistic narratives, but usually overlook political actors, whether individual or collective, which were marginalized by the men in power during the early post-independent years.

Political and Social Restructuring Underway
The separation of the two Sudans in July 2011 created as many opportunities as it aroused difficulties and threats, therefore opening new research fields in Social Sciences. The themes of analysis regarding political and social reshuffling are many, and for a majority of them, yet to study. The CEDEJ-Khartoum and the CFEE-Addis Ababa are willing to give an academic content to the debate, which official talks often miss to address; and to convey discussions between Sudanese and South Sudanese scholars, as well as international specialists of the region.
