Mississippi Delta Communities Facing Disappearing Land
"Still on the Map!" takes as its context the Mississippi Delta fifteen years after Hurricane Katrina and about five years after the commissioning of the major new "100-year" flood protection infrastructure. Expressed from its title -a statement of resistance/resilience chanted by many inhabitants during ecological events in Louisiana- this research project aims to describe the links and "attachments" (LATOUR, 2017) that different communities in the delta maintain with their geographical environment in a situation of strong ecological tipping point, integrating the natural and artificial infrastructures of the watershed into the definition of ecosystems as socio-political actors in their own right. In a context where the delta's land is gradually sinking into the sea, every hour the surface area of a football pitch is permanently flooded.

Call for papers - Political studies
Following two different and yet complementary approaches (one from the top down with parties and the other from the bottom up with grassroots organizations), we propose to compare how potential voters have been appealed to, through the use of different strategies and tools of communication”. Whether it be organizations or parties, it will be interesting to analyze how these groups either (re)connect citizens with politics or give birth to social movements which durably occupy the political landscape of the United States and the United Kingdom. Common features may be observed along with distinct approaches particularly adapted to the specificity of each country concerned.

For this first session, topics of interest include: Open source licenses, Patent clearing houses, Inclusive patents, Intellectual property rights on Digital Goods, Intellectual property rights on plants, Intellectual property rights and incentives to innovate.

Mountains as global suppliers: New forms of disparities between mountains and the metropolitan nodes
Socio-economic topics in mountain research are very often focussed on the description, interpretation and management practices of depopulation and decline. With the thematic issue about the in-migration of a new type of inhabitants we are introducing another picture, mainly seen under a socio-demographic view. The thematic issue of JAR/RGA wants to treat both questions under a theoretical and an empirical view to fuel the debate about the advantages and disadvantages of a highly specialised development of mountain areas, raising the question of “spatial justice” and potential alternative development paths.

Higher Education and Mobilities 2013
In a context of major change in both higher education and the academic world, transformations can be considered as multi-dimensional and include issues such as : high enrolment rates, increased social and cultural heterogeneity, development of and change in mobility (institutional, territorial, international), diversification of the offer of academic institutions (public and private, reconfiguration of the institutional landscape), changes in policy guidelines, such as the Bologna Process. The conference will focus on individual and group behaviours, strategies and trajectories which are strongly affected by and find themselves remodelled in the current context. We propose the term mobility as a central notion for apprehending the phenomena.

Third International Conference of the European Society for Early Modern Philosophy
The general objective of the conference is to take an overview of the present historiographical situation regarding the study of controversies and to contribute to a reappraisal of the study of controversies in the history of early modern philosophy. It will aim not only at mapping the many philosophical controversies of the early modern period, but as well at making explicit the different methodological approaches that can be used to analyse controversies and at evaluating the different explanatory merits of those methodological approaches.

Marshall G.S. Hodgson, Islam and World History
Ce colloque permettra de revenir sur l'œuvre de G. S. Marshall Hodgson (1922-1968), un des plus grands historiens américains de l'Islam et par ailleurs un géographe de génie et un des premiers grands penseurs de l'histoire globale. Lors des quatre séances d'une demi-journée chacune, il sera question de l'apport de Hodgson comme islamologue ; de sa manière d'avoir « inventé » ou pratiqué l'histoire globale au sein du « Comittee on Social Thought » de l'Université de Chicago ; du caractère créatif en historiographie, notamment dans les années 1950 et 1960 ; et pour finir, l'état de l'histoire globale de nos jours. -

Bien que leur mort, ainsi que celle des territoires, ait été annoncée au début des années 1990, les frontières constituent toujours une réalité prégnante. Elles sont marquées toutefois par les processus constants de déterritorialisation / reterritorialisation et d’ouverture / fermeture (« debordering / rebordering ») qui les sélectionnent, les re-hiérarchisent mais aussi qui les rendent plus diverses dans leurs formes et leurs matérialisations. Ainsi, l’inscription spatiale de la frontière est de plus en plus difficile à définir, ce qui constituera le cœur du questionnement de notre colloque. Différentes tendances sont en effet à l’œuvre, qui produisent des frontières plus mouvantes, plus ouvertes ou plus floues. -

Assessment and Prospects
Aujourd’hui la plupart des pays d’Europe accueillent des immigrés dont une partie conséquente provient de pays situés en dehors de l’Union européenne et en dehors du continent. L’avenir semble propice à la poursuite d’une forte immigration vers cette zone.Le monde d’aujourd’hui permet ainsi plus que jamais l’affirmation d’appartenances multiples, au risque de générer des contradictions dans les divers processus d’affiliation et de produire des tensions entre les minorités et les majorités qui les environnent. Dans un tel contexte, il apparaît nécessaire de penser l’immigration et l’intégration sur des bases théoriques différentes. Tel est l'objet de ce colloque. -

Social Studies on Biodiversity. Knowing Nature

In 2010, the International Year for Biodiversity, numerous events, meetings and conferences are taking place around biodiversity. This inscription of biodiversity on both political and scientific agendas deserves a new investigation by Social scientists. New institutions of biodiversity are emerging, and new hybrid interfaces between the academic, political and economic worlds are at stake. They question academic practices and our relationships to nature. This workshop brings together French and European academics to discuss how biodiversity changes our ways of knowing Nature.2010, année internationale de la biodiversité, témoigne d’une multiplication inédite de manifestations d’intérêt et d’événements autour de la biodiversité. Cette actualité justifie un nouveau regard des SHS sur les enjeux actuels de la mise à l’agenda - indissolublement politique et scientifique - de la biodiversité. On assiste au développement d’« institutions émergentes de la biodiversité » qui questionnent les pratiques académiques, créent des interfaces hybrides inédites entre les mondes académique, politique, et de plus en plus économique, et renouvellent in fine nos rapports à la nature. Ces journées ont pour vocation de réunir des chercheurs académiques de différentes spécialités pour échanger sur la façon dont la biodiversité renouvelle nos manières de connaître la nature. -

Qu’est ce qui fait une ambiance et comment se fabrique une ambiance ?Aujourd’hui, en architecture et en urbanisme, la stricte « maîtrise technique des ambiances » ne suffit plus. Dans la conception et la gestion de l’espace construit, ces questions débordent la simple juxtaposition des dispositifs techniques et réglementaires. De nouvelles pratiques de projet apparaissent De nouvelles connaissances transdisciplinaires sont aussi en plein essor. Au cours de cette rencontre, architectes, urbanistes, paysagistes, designers d’environnement, artistes, neuro-cogniticiens, philosophes et sociologues présenteront les nouveaux acquis, témoigneront d’expériences de création et poseront des interrogations ouvrant de nouvelles pistes de réflexion et de pratique. Ce colloque est le premier acte d’un réseau international interdisciplinaire et interprofessionnel qui intéresse déjà plus de soixante pays soucieux d’une architecture de qualité et d’un aménagement durable. -

Les technologies biomédicales jouent un rôle de plus en plus important dans la transformation du corps humain en re-définissant les indentités individuelles et collectives. Ces biotechnologies bouleversent les représentations culturelles, la gouvernance des nouvelles technologies et la réflexion bioéthique.Le colloque "Engineering European Bodies" réunira des chercheurs en bioéthique, sciences sociales (STS), anthropologie culturelle, médecine et des responsables politiques européens et nationaux. Les objectifs du colloque sont de croiser les perspectives empiriques et éthiques en la matière, comprendre les implication des technologies biomédicales en matière de politiques de santé et de santé publique, de débattre de leurs implications pour les politiques européennes et nationales, de réfléchir à la pertinence des méthodologies comparatives et transdisciplinaires. -
