  Africa and global commodity markets: towards a new paradigm?

  6th Bordeaux workshop in international Economics and Finance

  Over the last two decades, as in previous decades, commodity prices have gone through particularly significant upward and downward phases, which have not been without major consequences on the economic, social and political realities of African exporting countries. The ambition of this workshop, two years after the return of bullish prices, is to appreciate the nature of the various links that unite Africa and world commodity markets and to characterize a possible paradigm shift.

  First international seminar for post-graduate students in Sport History

  A first international seminar for PHD and post-graduate students in sport history (political and cultural perspectives) supervised by Prof. Dave Day (Manchester Metropolitan University) and Prof. J.-F. Loudcher (Bordeaux) is planned at Bordeaux between the 11^th September and the 13^th September 2017. It is the first of a series of seminars between the two universities (the next will be in Manchester) and will provides an opportunity to establish new relationsships and partnerships with students ands researchers from all over the world. In addition, this one will have a workshop on European project research funding on cultural and political sport coaching in a comparative way for an application in 2018. It is possible to just attend the seminar and the workshop.

  South Asian Diasporic Cinema: Encounters

  The fourth issue of /DESI/ will focus on the question of encounters in diasporic South Asian cinema: Afghanistan, India, Maldives, Pakistan, Bangladesh Nepal and Sri Lanka. The transformation of this contemporary human condition into filmic material coincides with a turn in the scientific study of diasporas. Forced migrations, which generate a movement of displacement and settlement in home territories, movements of arrivals, caught in a logic of deterritorialization, diasporas – and more particularly South Asian diasporas – are all relocated in transnational and transcultural spaces. Cinema holds a mirror to this experience of movement through this new “ethnoscape” (Appadurai) made up of shifts and disjunctures, free flows and political hurdles, border-crossings and assignment of identity.

  South-Asian Diasporic Circulations and Cultures: transdisciplinary approaches

  Ce colloque international réunira à Bordeaux, les 21 et 22 mars 2011, des chercheurs travaillant sur le monde indien et les diasporas sud-asiatiques à partir de perspectives disciplinaires variées (historique, géographique, sociologique, anthropologique, ou encore musicologique). Cette rencontre inter et transdisciplinaire est organisée par l’EA CLIMAS (Cultures et Littératures des Mondes Anglophones) et l’UMR ADES (Aménagement, Développement, Environnement, Santé et Sociétés). This international conference will take place in Bordeaux on 21 and 22 March, 2011 and will gather scholars studying the Indian world and the South-Asian diasporas from various scientific perspectives (history, geography, sociology, anthropology, or musicology). This cross- and trans-disciplinary event is organised by E.A. CLIMAS (Cultures et Littératures des Mondes Anglophones) and U.M.R. ADES (Aménagement, Développement, Environnement, Santé et Sociétés).

  Déviance(s)

  Si la déviance est un comportement qui échappe aux règles admises par la société, pour parler de déviance, il faut que soient réunis trois éléments : existence d'une norme, transgression de cette norme et stigmatisation de cette transgression (« The deviant is one to whom that label has successfully been applied », Becker). L'origine de la déviance n'est donc pas à chercher dans la nature profonde de l’individu, mais bien plutôt dans son « rôle social », lequel détermine son identité (Mead, Berger). La déviance s’inscrit dans une dialectique dont le pôle opposé est forcément la norme qu’elle enfreint. Partant le déviant est celui qui, par consensus communautaire, est affublé d’une étiquette (« labeling theory » ou « théorie interactionniste de la déviance »), véritable « stigmate social » (Goffman).
