Através da Oficina Instrumentos Digitais para fins Académicos oferecemos a investigadores em início de carreira e professores universitários a oportunidade de aprender a usar os meios digitais de um modo mais efetivo para produzir e disseminar a investigação. A oficina tem por objetivo ajudar os participantes a identificar um repertório online adequado às suas necessidades e objetivos específicos e permitir aos investigadores das diferentes áreas científicas integrar social media digitais nas suas actividades de investigação e estratégias de desenvolvimento profissional.

Bioanthropological meeting: a multidisciplinary approach

The I BAM follows a long tradition in the organization of scientific events with an international scope in the field of Biological Anthropology. The former Department of Anthropology and now the Department of Life Sciences in the University of Coimbra has, over the years, stood out not only in research but also in teaching Anthropology. To an organizing committee constituted by very young researchers, with deep connections to this institution, it is an honor to be able to count with all its support. The idea of this encounter arises from the urge to be closely involved in the practical applicability of the knowledge intersection, at the specific level of Biological Anthropology. This meeting aims to present the latest research that has been developed in several areas of this field.

Value conflict, decision-making and public action

In this seminar we intend to clarify and discuss the contributions that different theoretical traditions in economics, sociology, anthropology, social psychology and philosophy have given to the issues of incommensurability, value conflicts and valuation. Identifying and exposing the normative assumptions of certain decision-making procedures and devices is another objective of this seminar. Particular attention will be given to the implications of these issues to public decision-making and action.

A cultura no desenvolvimento sustentável: políticas, estratégias e processos

The aim of the COST Action IS1007 Symposium is to give an overview of the policy contextwhere culture meets sustainable development, and of the strategies and processes whichguide culturally sustainable development at local, regional, national and transnational levels.Moreover, during the Symposium the participants will identify and establish “thematicclusters” on various topics of cultural sustainability, which will serve as forums for futurecollaborative work. The goal of the COST Action "Investigating Cultural Sustainability" is to increase understanding of and determine the role of culture in sustainable development based on multidisciplinary principles and approaches.

Configurações contemporâneas do racismo e do eurocentrismo

Debates sobre os discursos e práticas académicos e políticos

The main objective of this international workshop is to promote a debate that engages both with current issues on knowledge/history production and with contemporary discourses/policies on immigration and ‘integration’, taking their intersection as crucial to unravel the relations between the constant (re)making of nation boundaries and ideas of political belonging. We propose that a breakthrough approach requires the challenging of a Eurocentric paradigm, now hegemonic, that is preventing a thorough debate on racism as being embedded on the history of modern science, capitalism, liberal democracies and the state of law.

Rethinking urban inclusion. Spaces, mobilizations, interventions

The Conference aims to understand and ultimately rethink social inclusion at the urban scale, as the product of broader dynamics and the interaction of different actors and languages. It will focus on emerging modes of contesting the centrality of the state and market pervasiveness, new varieties of counter-hegemonic positions and projects, and alternative visions of urban democracy and justice that inform bottom-up and participatory approaches to urban inclusion. By mixing academic with social movement and civil society “expertise,” experiences of both the global North and the global South, and the languages of social science and policy with those of the humanities and art, the Conference aims to contribute to an “ecology of knowledges” that gives visibility to new forms of collective action and community experimentation reshaping contemporary cities in different contexts.

O CES organiza, nos dias 23 e 24 de Abril de 2012, o Colóquio Internacional “Direito(s) e Desigualdades” que decorrerá na Faculdade de Economia da Universidade de Coimbra. Na semana em que se comemora os 38 anos do 25 de Abril, que abriu as portas a importantes conquistas no âmbito dos direitos fundamentais, e no espírito de interdisciplinaridade que caracteriza a investigação produzida no Centro de Estudos Sociais, três projectos de investigação reúnem-se num importante momento de reflexão e debate, que se integra, ainda, no programa de doutoramento Direito, Justiça e Cidadania no séc. XXI.
