  Theoretical linguistics in the light of the interaction of qualitative and quantitative approaches

  TheorLing 2020

  The central interest of this conference is to identify the place of theoretical linguistics in a period – the last decade – when the use of quantitative methods in the humanities has grown exponentially. The international conference aims to bring together researchers working both on qualitative research and on quantitative analysis taking into account statistical calculations and methods.

  Interactional competences and practices in a second language (ICOP-L2)

  Throughout the past two decades, interactional competences and practices have gained unprecedented attention in research on second language (L2) acquisition, use and education. Following Dell Hymes’ conceptualization of communicative competence, various lines of research have for long been concerned with pragmatic development in an L2, mostly focusing on the realization of speech acts. Yet, it is only recently that research has started to systematically investigate how people's capacity to engage in social interaction is affected in their L2 and how their ability to participate in such interaction evolves over time.

  Institutionally appropriate communication is a major issue in organizations today. The ability to interact within institutional contexts represents a set of practices society members have available for sharing information and communicating, complaining, negotiating, solving problems, bringing off specific tasks, transmitting knowledge and learning. Responsive to context-specific motivations and at the same time transcending any specific interaction, interactional competences are not abstract abilities but are constructed within rich interactional environments, assessed and interpreted according to collectively shared and valid principles.

  Organizational change and emerging markets in the luxury industry since the 1970s

  The objective of this conference is to bring a better understanding of the transformation of the luxury industry into a global business since the 1970s. This industry experienced in the last four decades a major mutation which the three main trends can be stressed as follows: shift from independent small businesses to multinational enterprises, globalization of brands, democratization of consumption. This conference will tackle topics and cases from various industries, countries and disciplines (business history, marketing, applied economics, etc.). In particular, the following issues are welcomed.

  New-Build Gentrifications: Forms, Places and Processes

  Dans sa définition classique, la gentrification désigne la transformation physique et sociale d'anciens quartiers urbains. Récemment, ce concept a été élargi pour inclure des projets issus d'opérations de régénération de friches urbaines. Ce séminaire se focalise sur la question de la "new-build gentrification" et sur certaines tendances récentes de la dynamique urbaine telles que les politiques de densification et de régénération. Des contributions seraient particulièrement bienvenues sur le rôle des différents acteurs impliqués dans ces phénomènes (autorités locales et nationales, acteurs du marché immobilier, ménages qui s'installent dans ces nouveaux quartiers).
