What difference do DIY cultures make?
KISMIF Conference 2018 will be preceded by a Summer School entitled ‘What difference do DIY cultures make?’ (KISMIF Summer School 2018) on 3 July 2018 in Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Porto. The summer school will offer an opportunity for all interested persons, including those participating in the conference, to attend workshops led by specialists in these fields. Specifically, the Summer School offers thematic workshops expressly focused on the hands-on, music making, and place making of contemporary DIY cultures. Its approach will be methodological and focused on research for action.

“Keep It Simple, Make It Fast!” Gender, differences, identities and DIY cultures
KISMIF conference 2018
We are pleased to announce the fourth “Keep It Simple, Make It Fast!” (KISMIF) Conference which will take place in Porto, Portugal, between 3 July and 7 July 2018. This initiative follows the great success of the three past editions and brings together an international community of researchers focusing on underground music scenes and do-it-yourself culture. The 4th edition of KISMIF will focus on “Gender, differences, identities and DIY cultures”, directing its attention on gender issues relating to underground scenes and do it yourself (DIY) cultures, and their manifestation at local, translocal and virtual levels.

"Keep it simple, make it fast" Summer School
The Summer School Gettin’ Underground Together! will offer an opportunity for all students (bachelor, master, doctorate, postdoctoral students), including those staying on for the conference, to attend specialist master classes and discuss their research work in seminars led by top academics in the field. It is also the possibility of deepening both theoretical and methodological questions in both proximity and dialogue with some of the main world references of the urban musical scenes.

Another Music in a Different Room
Resulting from a series of developed works in the last decade within the framework of social sciences (namely Sociology of Culture, Sociology of Arts, Sociology of Youth, Urban Sociology and Sociology of Music), in this advanced seminar we will have the opportunity of deepening the understanding around the importance, functioning, process, the agents, characteristics, genres and subgenres of the current urban music scenes. The ANOTHER MUSIC IN A DIFFERENT ROOM will be a fruitful space for ideas, discussions and, therefore, for a great developments on scientific knowledge. So, it’s our intention to share all this scientific dynamic with the world in order to contribute to a larger debate on music, youth, lifestyles, culture, cultural scenes, music scenes. In this context, the ideas and discussions held in the Advanced Seminar, both by lecturers and participants, will be published in a Collaborative e-book.

Underground music scenes and DIY cultures
The Conference Organizing Committee hereby announces its “Keep It Simple, Make It Fast! Underground music scenes and DIY cultures Conference” which will take place in Porto from 9 July to 11 July 2014. The organisation of the KISMIF Conference will be undertaken by the Research Project Keep It Simple, Make It Fast!. The Call for Papers of this Conference is open for presentations to all core areas of sociology, social sciences and also design, illustration, visual arts and performing arts. The KISMIF Conference Organizing Committee invites experienced and young scholars from various disciplines to participate in the conference. The KISMIF Conference Organizing Committee would like the participants to know that the selected papers from the conference will be published in an edited collection by an international publisher.

Issues of open environmental data in Latin America
Le séminaire « Partager l'information environnementale » propose de dresser un premier bilan des questionnements et débats liés à la diffusion de données environnementales en accès libre, dans la perspective d'une analyse de l'impact social et territorial de ce processus d'importance croissante. Articulant études de cas de diffusion et réflexions méthodologiques sur la mesure des impacts sociaux et territoriaux, ce séminaire porte prioritairement sur l'Amérique latine, mais est ouvert à des contributions d'autres continents. Il se tiendra à Porto Alegre du 23 au 24 août 2012 (Brésil).
