  The Francophone press in the Americas

  La culture et la langue françaises ont joué un rôle important dans le monde, tout particulièrement dans la presse du XIX^e siècle, phénomène qui s’étend jusqu’au milieu du XX^e siècle et s’est développée grâce à l’expansion des moyens techniques de production et de communication, permettant la circulation des modèles de presse et des sujets traités, ainsi que la constitution d’imaginaires mondialisés. Ce congrès est ainsi consacré à rassembler des chercheurs dédiés à l’étude de la presse périodique francophone dans les Amériques du XIX^e et début du XX^e siècle, comme journaux, revues et almanachs.

  Mapping Architectural Criticism Third International Symposium

  This international symposium is part of the ANR research project Mapping Architectural Criticism, which aims to develop a field of research on the history of architectural criticism, from the last decades of the 19_^th century to the present day. The symposium intends to debate two key questions related to the geographies of criticism: what are criticism’s disciplinary boundaries and which territories has criticism shared from the last decades of the 19_^th to the end of the 20_^th century with other disciplines.

  Food, glorious food

  Food at the heart of nineteenth-century art

  This symposium intends to study the various and complex relations between food, the experience of eating, and nineteenth-century art. For this conference, we welcome papers that discuss how the development of the food industry and the changing notion of “taste” and social mores are reflected in nineteenth-century art in the broadest sense. Papers may concern visual arts including graphic arts in the form of illustrated advertisements and culinary literature, as well as nouveautés (objects which were designed to reflect the evolution of eating and table manners).

  Tracing types

  Comparative analyses of nineteenth-century sketches

  A new wave of scholarship has emerged in recent years, which examines nineteenth-century sketches (sometimes referred to as “panoramic literature”) from a transnational perspective. The present international conference seeks to continue this comparative reflection by placing the spotlight on the comparative analysis of texts and images of specific types and by tracing how these representations vary across sketches from different places, media and editorial contexts.
