The aim of the conference is to structure a conversation on both the fundamental and practical issues on legal data mining and machine learning between scientists and professionals from artificial Intelligence, data science, law, and logic. The Legal Data Mining, Machine Learning and Visualization conference will explore the specific technical challenges from data mining and machine learning technique addressing together practical and legal theoretical issues. It is an opportunity for computer scientists to showcase and explore in conversation with lawyers further developments in AI and data-mining applied to the legal domains. Legal academics specializing in the interface of law and AI are given the opportunity to articulate the challenges of automated functions in law including in natural language processing applied to law, information extraction from legal databases and texts and data mining applied for legal analytics.

Training school

This training school provides participants with insights into the theories and practices of stimulating impact creation from social sciences and humanities research. It will focuses on three specific dimensions. Firstly, creating a conceptual understanding on the specificities of social sciences and humanities (SSH) impact and non-linear impact models. Secondly, alternative appropriate policy frameworks for maximising SSH impact. Finally, we will explore ways of supporting scholarly practices to optimise the creation of impact through SSH research, and capturing this with evaluation systems.

The study of “change” is a central research topic in social science. However, how can we concretely assess social change when we conduct qualitative research which is based on case studies, and has a limited scope of inquiry both in terms of time and space? This international workshop seeks to address this key methodological issue through an interdisciplinary dialogue. On the basis of concrete empirical examples, we would like to focus on the available means that enable us to overcome obstacles encountered when studying change through qualitative research.

Policies and their publics: discourses, actors and power

10th International Conference in Interpretive Policy Analysis

Anti-austerity protests in Southern Europe, the Occupy Movement in North America and Europe, to say nothing about the Vinegar Movement against the costs of hosting the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, are recent examples of spectacular contestations against government programmes which are paradoxically justified as being in the public interest. In a somewhat different vein, the widespread promotion of participatory democracy, at all levels of government, has spurred heated scholarly discussions regarding the 'democracy of the publics' (Manin, 1995). As such, the tenth IPA conference is devoted to studying public policies through their publics. The latter can best be understood as beneficiaries, recipients, and targets of public policies but also as stakeholders or participants in policy-making. In other words, publics are products as well as policy actors insofar as they inform public judgment (Dewey, 1927).

Les méthodes de synthèses de connaissances

Les outils de l'Evidence-Based Policy

Le Réseau des chercheurs en évaluation des politiques publiques de la Société française d’évaluation vous convie à un séminaire de recherche sur les méthodes de synthèses de connaissances, le 10 décembre 2012 à l’Université de Paris Dauphine, Amphithéâtre 11. La promotion des politiques publiques basées sur la preuve par un nombre croissant des gouvernements nationaux et d’organisations internationales soulève les questions de l’identification de connaissances disponibles sur les impacts des interventions publiques, de l’appréciation de leur crédibilité et finalement de leur synthèse pour éclairer la décision publique. A ce jour, deux méthodes reconnues ont émergé. La première emprunte aux outils de la « médecine des preuves » : revue systématique et la méta-analyse. La seconde, appelée synthèse réaliste, est inspirée des méthodologies des sciences sociales. Le séminaire de recherche, organisé avec l’aide de plusieurs partenaires, proposera une présentation et une discussion des méthodes disponibles (voir programme ci-dessous). Merci de noter que les présentations et échanges se feront exclusivement en anglais afin de faciliter le dialogue entre participants de différents pays. Marketing Strategies for Public Performance

Le secteur public a pour finalité de produire un impact sur son environnement. La performance publique se situe donc à l'interface de l'organisation publique et de son environnement et ne peut être mesurée ou gérée sur la seule base de ses ressources et activités internes. Justement, le marketing, entendu de manière extensive (Kotler, 1969), est en charge de gérer les relations d'une organisation avec l'ensemble de ses partenaires extérieurs. L'incorporation des dispositifs marketing dans les systèmes de mesure de la performance publique semble donc inéluctable, pour le meilleur et pour le pire. L'objectif de ce numéro spécial est de réunir des recherche empiriques focalisées sur les modalités et les effets de la mise en œuvre des démarches marketing dans le secteur public.
