Métamorphoses et nouvelles technologies au Japon
Au Japon le phénomène estampillé kyara-ka – « se transformer en personnage » – donne maintenant naissance à ce que Nozawa Shunsuke (2013) nomme « un art émergent de l’auto-modélisation ». Basé sur des techniques de déguisement élaborées, le phénomène kyara-ka recouvre une grande variété de stratégies et de pratiques liées à la présentation de soi : cosplay, kigurumi, V-tubing, banques de voix synthétiques, utilisation de filtres vocaux-graphiques pour mettre en ligne des vidéos où les humains ressemblent à des personnages… En explorant les différentes manifestations de ce processus social de « chosification de l’humain », le colloque entend questionner les raisons pour lesquelles un nombre croissant de personnes se customisent en personnages. L’objectif du colloque est de traiter dans leur complexité les questions que soulèvent ces actes volontaires, et peut-être ironiques, d’oblitération. Quel est le profil de ces hommes et ces femmes qui se métamorphosent en créatures produites par infographie ? Comment vivent-ils le fait d’être aimés non pas pour eux-mêmes mais pour leur alter-ego numérique ? Quels récits, petits ou grands, accompagnent la production de ces doubles fictifs ? Est-il toujours pertinent d’analyser le phénomène en termes d’authenticity (original) ou d’artificialité (copie) ? Quelles négociations, quels refus sous-tendent l’usage des personnages comme masques sociaux ?

« Creative State-Making » et quelques conséquences (im)prévues de l’islamisation
Trajectoires surprenantes de l’islam, genre et politique en Asie du Sud-Est
L’islam en Asie du Sud-Est a connu une trajectoire prospère ces dernières années. Ceci est en grande partie dû aux divers mouvements d'islamisation dirigés par l'État qui ont réussi à intégrer les valeurs et les principes de l'islam au tissu même de la vie quotidienne des musulmans, renforçant ainsi le pouvoir de l'État qui prétend incarner l'autorité divine et l'immuabilité de l'islam. Mais alors que l’État s’imagine être le « gardien » légitime (et unique) de l’islam, ses tentatives de monopoliser les interprétations et les institutions islamiques ouvrent également - peut-être involontairement - un espace discursif plus complexe qui permet aux acteurs non étatiques de se soumettre, contester ou adapter et reformuler diverses formes de pouvoir symbolique de l’État, souvent de manière imprévisible.

Locating negative affects in post-reform China
This panel takes the prevalence of positivity in post-reform China as an invitation to investigate its opposites: the variety of negative ordinary affects that can be viewed as ensuing from state-induced “situations of restricted agency”. What can we learn from the various forms of negativity that morph out of the socio-political circumstances of post-reform China, and how to tread a fine line between the risk of romanticization and analytical dismissal? Under what conditions do the expression and performance of negative affects constitute “a manifestation of autonomy from state directives” in the context of pervasive “happiness” campaigns? Or is their work ambivalent, if not problematic, especially when they come to be associated with specific marginalized groups?

The PhD student will examine local implications of financialized forms of social service provision in North India. Competition and solidarity networks in contemporary South Asia's Labour Market
Hegemonic neo-liberal discourse assumes that free competition on all levels sparks a virtuous cycle of economic growth, which eventually trickles down to poor populations. Over the past three decades, the idea that restrictive labour laws hamper such competition has justified the deregulation of labour in the North and the un-regulation of labour in the South, notably in South Asia, where labour relations had already mainly been informal. Various sociologists have noted that intensified economic interactions and the rise of competition have made individuals more likely to activate their social networks to protect their individual interests. In this respect, to what extent do social networks shape relations in the diverse South Asian labour markets? How do new forms of social groupings reconfigure competition and solidarity relations? What forms of social interactions prevail, emerge and weaken in the market: chosen solidarity and inherited solidarity; inter-caste and intra-caste solidarity; class solidarity; corporate solidarity etc.?

This project will explore how young Chinese cosplayers engage with the public at large to express new identities in spaces that are heavily regulated by social and political censoring mechanisms. On the one hand, this doctoral research will explore the structural organisation of Chinese cosplay (associations, conventions); on the other hand, it will look into specific bodily performances in public spaces.

From the Caucasus to the Arabian Peninsula: studying domestic spaces in the Neolithic
Under neolithisation scholars understand multiple processes of social and economic transformation which begin at different times and follow regional trends in the Near and Middle East. It is within the complex relational and spatial framework of the household that these shifts in the structure and activities of Neolithic communities are easiest to apprehend and study. The conference will therefore focus on the domestic sphere in order to highlight and understand the polymorphous nature of what we call neolithisation. Various thematic sessions will be held to shed new light on current data: “Impacts of the shift to a sedentary/semi-sedentary lifestyle”; “Organising the house and the household”; “Private space/public space”; “Acquisition, production, transformation and use”; “Eating-Moving”; “Symbolic manifestations”;“The living and the dead”.

Mathilde Bourrier): « Organizing, Communicating, and Costing in Risk Governance: Learning Lessons from the H1N1 Pandemic ». Il/Elle travaillera plus particulièrement sur les deux composantes du projet portant sur les facteurs organisationnels et communicationnels de la gestion de la pandémie, en Suisse, aux États-Unis et au Japon. La personne recherchée a obtenu son doctorat en sociologie ou en anthropologie depuis moins de 3 ans, d'excellentes capacités à mener des terrains de recherche dans plusieurs pays, et d'un intérêt marqué pour les questions de santé globale (global health).

Ce colloque clôture un projet ANR mené au Centre d'études des mondes russe, caucasien et centre européen (CERCEC, CNRS/EHESS), intitulé « Caucase et Asie Centrale : un autre Sud ? ». Il rassemblera à Almaty, outre les membres de l'équipe du projet, une cinquantaine de participants venus d'Asie Centrale, du Caucase, de Russie, d'Europe des Etats Unis et du Japon. Pluridisciplianire, ce colloque a pour ambition d’interroger la pertinence des outils heuristiques élaborés à partir de terrains situés au « Sud », mais aussi de la notion même de « Sud(s) » pour appréhender les périphéries méridionales de l’espace post-soviétique. Il entend réunir des chercheurs de toutes les disciplines des sciences sociales (sociologie, histoire, sciences politiques, géographie, anthropologie, démographie, économie). Organized by UMR 201, RUME India, Mexico, Madagascar, CIESAS (Mexico) (www.rume-rural-microfinance.org). The main purpose of this interdisciplinary workshop will be a theoretical and empirical examination of over-indebtedness from the perspective of southern countries, with the following underlying hypothesis: to define and analyze the process of indebtedness requires first an understanding of the complexity and diversity of debt relationships. The following questions might be addressed: 1) The social meaning of debt, creditworthiness and over-indebtedness. 2) Financial ‘markets’ and financial providers. 3) Financial culture. 4) Impoverishment and accumulation. 5) Over-indebtedness. -
