Methodological and Theoretical Considerations
ISA47 is launching a new journal "Social Movements and Change". Philipp Altmann, Deniz Günce Demirhisar and Jacob Mwathi Mati are organizing a special edition on "Social Movements of the Global South – Methodological and Theoretical Considerations". Their aim is to "bring together research on social movements worldwide that break with the Eurocentric bias of social movement theory and try to develop both theories and methodologies apt to understand action, discourse or outcomes of social movements in the Global South".

Revue Études Canadiennes n°78 (juin 2015)
This special issue of Etudes Canadiennes/Canadian Studies intends to explore what’s new in Canada, nine years after the coming to power of the Conservatives, four years after Stephen Harper won the election that gave him a majority government, and at a time when Canada is getting ready for the next federal election. While the contributions are expected to focus on the Conservative initiatives to shape this new Canada, they will also be encouraged to compare them with other societal and global factors that may contribute to a changing Canada.

Denationalization and territory
Ph.d. workshop with Saskia Sassen
Professor Saskia Sassen will take part in a half-a-day international doctoral workshop, which will be the concluding act of a two-day long seminar on denationalisation and territory (7-8 May 2014). Such doctoral seminar aims at providing Ph.D students who work on issues related to globalisation a dynamic and informal space to present their work, receive inputs from discussants and participants and have a chance to discuss with one of the major sociologists in the field. The participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their research questions, to receive informed opinions and to meet other academics working on similar issues in different regional context.

Economic crisis has turned on lights on Mediterranean Europe’s countries and the role-played in the European integration process and as interface between the EU and countries, policies and cultures coming from Mediterranean Area. Moreover, events such the Arab Spring have brought back the idea of Mediterranean as a wide and complex meeting place where cultures, faiths, different political and social experiences meet, and sometimes clash, developing opportunities of dialogue and integration.

Estuarine and Lagoon Ecosystem Trajectories
Throughout the world, estuaries and lagoons are among the most intensely modified and threatened aquatic ecosystems. Moreover, these systems are vulnerable to the consequences of global change. From a management point of view, there is a tremendous and concrete lack of knowledge regarding the functioning of estuarine ecosystems and the socio-economic relations that bind the various actors to these environments. This ECSA symposium will contribute to provide sound science on past and future estuarine and lagoon ecosystem evolution from ecological, social and political point of view. All example of medium and long terms surveys, describing how the ecosystem and socio-ecosystem is evolving are welcome. -

Le mur en relations internationales
La fin de la Guerre froide a été marquée par la chute du mur de Berlin, l’essor sans précédent de la mondialisation, la libéralisation des échanges, la promotion de la libre circulation des produits, des personnes et des capitaux. L’avènement d’un monde où, selon la littérature, l’État devenait second en relations internationales et où la mobilité devait constituer le nouveau cadre d’analyse du système mondial, doublé de l’obsolescence de la souveraineté et, ce faisant, de la disparition des frontières physiques ne laissaient en rien préfigurer du retour du « mur » qui, après 2001, est réapparu avec comme un instrument clé de la protection de la souveraineté étatique. Depuis la Grande muraille de Chine, le mur d’Antonin ou celui d’Hadrien réalisé par les Romains, le Genkobori construit par les Japonais sur l’île de Kyushu, ou encore le Mur de Berlin durant la période contemporaine, le « mur » est une des clés constantes – en Orient comme en Occident – de la protection d’une entité constituée et souveraine. -
Le marketing au service de la performance publique ?
Marketing Strategies for Public Performance
Le secteur public a pour finalité de produire un impact sur son environnement. La performance publique se situe donc à l'interface de l'organisation publique et de son environnement et ne peut être mesurée ou gérée sur la seule base de ses ressources et activités internes. Justement, le marketing, entendu de manière extensive (Kotler, 1969), est en charge de gérer les relations d'une organisation avec l'ensemble de ses partenaires extérieurs. L'incorporation des dispositifs marketing dans les systèmes de mesure de la performance publique semble donc inéluctable, pour le meilleur et pour le pire. L'objectif de ce numéro spécial est de réunir des recherche empiriques focalisées sur les modalités et les effets de la mise en œuvre des démarches marketing dans le secteur public.
