  Journal transition from subscription model to open access

  Serial crisis, sky-rocketing subscription prices as well as more and more widespread and powerful OA mandates have pushed many publishers to rethink the finance of publishing the journals. Considering a switch calls out numerous challenges but it is a path more and more travelled – and importantly so an economically – sustainable and one with long-term benefits – not only for readers, but also for authors and the journal owners, too. In 2014 De Gruyter converted 14 journals to OA – this webinar looks at overarching strategies for journal transition from subs to OA – including current OA publishing landscape and single factors (like managing submissions, citations and funding) that play a role during the process.  Is it worth it? Who will foot the bill? What to expect? And how to bring the EAB on board? The introductory one-hour webinar is built around three sections to allow participants to work out the flipping strategy for their publication and to timely and reasonably plan  the change.

  Institution, individual behavior and economic outcomes

  The VIII workshop on institution, individual behavior and economic outcomes, is organized by CRENoS, Dipartimento di Scienze Economiche e Aziendali, University of Sassari and University of Cagliari, and the University of Corsica Pasquali Paoli. The scope of the event is to give participants the opportunity to present their work in progress to an audience of interested peers and get valuable feedback for improving their ongoing research. Both the format and the location of the workshop have been chosen to provide an ideal setting for promoting knowledge sharing and social interactions conducive to collaborative research networks.

  Social Rights and Democracy

  Prim@ Facie, Vol 15, No 29 (2016)

  We are especially interested in manuscripts on social rights and democracy. Our intent is to prepare a set of discussions on how democracies promote social rights today, i.e., to what extent social movements, legal institutions, parliaments and executive power are able to find solutions to the challenges of democracies today? Have, for example, affirmative action, housing and health care programs, and even direct financial assistance to the poor actually reduced inequality? In addition, what are the most effective solutions for poverty? Are courts the best way to ensure social rights today? We are also interested in papers that address the costs of social programs. These are some of the possibilities, but many other questions may be brought to the table. We encourage submissions based on historical approaches carried out by jurists, political scientists, historians, sociologists, and other professionals in fields that have particular focus on legal problems.

  The question whether a new space of commercial regulation is emerging in Asia is generally addressed through the traditional notion of legal order or legal system. Thus, Chinese Law or Japanese Law on Arbitration, for example, is examined by underlining the specificities of such domestic law. Would it be possible to question the emergence of an Asian space of business law, not only from the exclusive standpoint of legal norms but from the standpoint of the actors themselves and their legal practices?

  Corruption et conflits d'intérêts

  Troisième séminaire de la série « Analyse économique du droit et des politiques publiques »

  Participants to the November 24 2010 session on Impact Assessment and the Scientific Committee of the Seminar have suggested that, broadly speaking, topics revolving around corruption, the rule of law and good governance would be of interest for the next session. We feel that, within this array, corruption stricto sensu and the broader set of public agents behaviours generally described as characterizing a situation of “conflict of interest” may be a good focus. The day will focus, more precisely, on the analysis of the determinants of corruption, and the impact of corruption on economic growth. Certain major concepts such as agency or transparency should be part of the analysis and debate in order to open a broad discussion on the rationale and efficiency of anti-corruption policies.

  La revue Prima Facie est une revue internationale publiée deux fois par an par le programme de post-graduation en droit de la « Universidade Federal da Paraíba » (UFPB, Brésil). La revue recherche des articles jusqu'à la fin du mois d’août 2011, concernant le sujet « droits sociaux et développement : relations et antagonismes », dans une perspective double : au prisme des relations de proximité et / ou des relations d'antagonisme. Le numéro spécial est dirigé par le professeur Maria Aurea Cecato.
