  “On_Culture” Issue 12 (Winter 2021)

  The 12th issue of On_Culture seeks to explore ambiguity in its potential and limits as an analytical tool for research in the study of culture. By the same token, the issue is also interested in perspectives on ambiguity as a cultural phenomenon in its historical situatedness and political dimensions.

  Contemporary American Fiction in the Face of Technical Innovation

  Cette conférence se propose d'interroger les relations de la fiction américaine aux innovations qui ont marqué les premières décennies du XXI^e siècle : internet, médias sociaux, objets et environnements intelligents, intelligence artificielle, nanotechnologies, ingénierie génétique et autres biotechnologies, transhumanisme. Ces innovations techniques redéfinissent la manière dont nous habitons notre monde, interagissons les uns avec les autres et appréhendons l'humain dans son rapport de plus en plus étroit à la machine, non plus, comme autrefois, soigné ou réparé, mais désormais augmenté ou remplacé. Qu'en est-il alors de nos pratiques artistiques et culturelles ? Ces avancées récentes modifient-ils la langue et la littérature ?

  Langage, Cognition, et Créativité

  8e Colloque international biennal de l’Association française de Linguistique cognitive (AFLiCo)

  Nous encourageons la soumission de contributions sur le rôle que joue la cognition dans la créativité verbale dans des contextes divers (e.g. dans les conversations, dans la rhétorique, dans l’humour, dans la communication interculturelle, dans les arts, etc.). Seront également bienvenus les études sur la créativité dans des gestes, dans la multimodalité, et des études sur le sujet par des approches diverses (e.g. linguistique de corpus, sociolinguistique, psycholinguistique, etc.). Les organisateurs encouragent la soumission de propositions de communication par de jeunes chercheurs. Les communications peuvent se faire en anglais ou en français, et seront de 20 minutes maximum, suivi de 8 minutes de questions.

  Sacred science: Learning from the tree

  Symposium for the European Society for the History of Science's conference

  “Unity and Disunity” has been chosen as the main theme for the European Society for the History of Science's conference that will take place in London on September 2018. Within this framework, Trames Arborescentes has decided to participate by proposing a commented panel that will gather four speakers around the subject “Sacred science: Learning from the tree”. This panel traces the arboreal motif through time, using it as a means to reflect on unity and disunity of interaction between science, art and the sacred.

  Abraham Ibn Ezra, un savant à la croisée des cultures arabe, hébraïque et latine du XIIe siècle

  In the middle of the eighth century, with the completion of the Islamic conquest of the eastern, northern and part of the western shores of the Mediterranean, Jews managed to successfully integrate into the ruling society without losing their religious and national identity. They willingly adopted the Arabic language, spoke Arabic fluently, wrote Arabic in Hebrew letters (Judeo-Arabic), and employed Arabic in the composition of their literary works. The twelfth century witnessed a cultural phenomenon that saw Jewish scholars gradually abandon the Arabic language and adopt Hebrew, previously used almost exclusively for religious and liturgical purposes, for the first time as a vehicle for the expression of secular and scientific ideas.

  The Why Linguistics Conference

  This conference proposes a constructive take on the question "Why?", as in, why are we doing what we are doing as linguists, and what is our contribution to knowledge? Or, equally well, what is the contribution of a particular domain of linguistics to other disciplines, and in turn, their contribution to linguistics? To what end do linguistics and any such neighboring fields of research or industry converge in their methods, results and problem setting? We welcome ideas both from within the linguistics community and fields of research or industry that involve the study of human language.

  La sémiotique comme philosophie de l'éducation

  Le séminaire « Semiosis and education », financé conjointement par la PESGB (Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain) et l’Université de Cergy-Pontoise, est organisé dans le cadre des travaux d’un réseau international ayant pour objet les liens entre sémiotique et éducation. Le séminaire qui aura lieu le 3 octobre 2011 fait suite à une première rencontre, organisée en octobre 2008 à Gand, et s’appuie sur un ensemble de travaux de recherche produits depuis plusieurs années.

  Huitième table ronde internationale de sémiotique juridique

  Eighth Roundtables for the Semiotics of Law - IRSL 2009

  La rencontre de 2009 entend se concentrer sur les progrès réalisés dans les divers domaines – méthodologiques, épistémologiques et conceptuels – de recherche en sémiotique juridique. La table ronde souhaite, notamment, explorer les conséquences des thèmes suivants : « Transparence, contrôle et pouvoir » sous une perspective sémiotique ainsi que les approches émergeantes et prometteuses qui peuvent être utilisées dans la recherche et l'interprétation du droit et des phénomènes juridiques. Le but principal de cette rencontre est d'examiner les défis épistémologiques et méthodologiques auxquels « transparence, contrôle et pouvoir » fait face aujourd'hui et d'en considérer les effets. Nous espérons que les communications refléteront la nature interdisciplinaire des recherches en sémiotique juridique ainsi que les défis auxquels les chercheurs font face dans ce domaine.
