Special Issue of "Angles"
This Special Issue of Angles would like to delve into the pandemic provoked by COVID-19, and its effects on the Anglophone world. As schools and universities are still reeling from weeks of lockdown and emergency distance-learning, plans are already underway to cope with an expected Second Wave when classes resume in the Fall. This issue invites writers, artists and academics to reflect on what has occurred in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, on historical, political, institutional, artistic, and personal levels.

XVIII International Symposium on Civilizing Processes
The National University of Colombia and the Department of Citizen Culture of the Secretary of Culture, Recreation and Sport of Bogota, Colombia have joined forces to organize the upcoming XVIII International Symposium on Civilizing Processes (SIPC). The SIPCs were born in 1996 on a Brazilian initiative and have been held every two years in Latin America to encourage the exchange of ideas and research results among scientists from various disciplines who find in Norbert Elias’ work a source of guidance in facing the challenges of today’s world and who share an interest in social sciences adjusted to reality.

Ludolympics 2020 – The 8th International Japan Game Studies Conference
This year’s conference theme will be “Ludolympics 2020”. Particular attention will therefore be paid to the relationship between games and sport in Japan, to the Japanese esport scene and its cultural specificities and to competitive video game practices, but also, more generally, to the notion of video game performance and to the mediatization or spectacularization of this performance. Through the prism of this theme, fundamental aspects of games and play will be questioned: the physicality of the playing practices, the place of competition in Japanese game culture, the role of rules and conventions in games and play, as well as the possibilities of bypassing these rules (through cheating, for instance) or the spaces of appropriation that they allow (visible in the amateur practices, fan creations or doujin circles, among others).

The televisual spaces of medicine and health in the 20th Century
Medical television programmes, across their history, have had specific relationships to places and spaces. On the one level, they have represented medical and health places: consulting rooms, hospitals, the home, community spaces, public health infrastructures and the rest. As television-producers have represented these places, there has been an interaction with the developing capabilities of television technologies and grammars. Moreover, producers have borrowed their imaginaries of medical and health places from other media (film, photographs, museum displays etc.) and integrated, adjusted and reformulated them into their work.

Thirty years after the fall of communism in Central and Easter Europe will be marked by the international, multidisciplinary conference called Thirty Years Afert-Post Communism, Democracy and Illiberalism in Central and Eastern Europe, organized by the Faculty of History, Univeristy of Bucharest and its network of academic partners. We would like to invite scholars in History, Political Science, International Relations, Economics or any other related fields to an international conference about the way in which the fall of communism and its inheritance profoundly marked the evolution of Central and Easter countries in the past thirty years.

The aims of this European seminar are: To explore biographical trajectories of theorists, initiators, and activists of various forms of adult education, and to analyze what led them to become "pioneers" in adult education; To identify new figures, more particularly women pioneers, who, up to now, have not been recognized to the same extent as men; To provide the basis for a European biographical dictionary, listing or documenting not only biographical notes, but also reflecting on different issues by the papers.

15th May 1968: the Odeon theatre in Paris is occupied by students and becomes the insurgent headquarters where every night militants recount the days' action in occupied factories to an audience of people camping in the auditorium. Youth rebellion was never as mythologised as that of the French students’ fight against institutional oppression. The effects were felt across the Channel, too – but the nature of those effects was, and remains, disputed. 50 years on… where are we? What remains of autogestion and emancipatory education? What remains of theatre inventiveness and sedition? What remains of a need for participatory audiences? What remains of utopia and dissent?

The interdisciplinary conference « Child and Teen Consumption » aims to facilitate in-depth dialogue between researchers from various disciplines: management, psychology, sociology, information and communication, anthropology, history, educational sciences, law, etc. Whilst the 8th conference will aim to continue interdisciplinary research and dialogue on broad themes related to children and young people as consumers, the theme of the 2018 conference will be « Cultural and Creative Industries of Childhood and Youth » in order to reflect its location in Angoulême and the growing research and public policy interest in this topic. Focusing on the works by Leone (1909-1944) and Natalia Ginzburg (1916-1991) the Summer School is dedicated to a reflection on the authors’ contribution to the 20th century Italian and European history. Besides a critical analysis of their creative and intellectual activity and their civic engagement, the participants will have the opportunity to debate the role both Leone and Natalia had in the publishing house Einaudi, and to experiment new methods of teaching literature. The 5th international congress “Sport, doping and society” is organized by the Spanish Agency for Health Protection in Sport (AEPSAD) and the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). Under the theme “Think Clean”, there will be presented the results of scientific researches and new methodologies in the field of doping in sport from the specific perspective of Human and Social Sciences. We believe that this initiative will contribute to identify the factors that influence the use of doping substances and methods. From this knowledge we hope to foster future prevention and doping control and to promote ethical behavior in sport.

The present seminar is the continuation of the symposium Bodies in action. The Biocultural Dimensions of the Everyday life that was held within the framework of the 4th Congress on Latin American Anthropology (Mexico, 2015). We invite to this seminar Biocultural Dimensions of the Everyday life researchers interested in the study of the body, of the human embodiment, of the techniques of the body, of the linkages between bodily action and material culture, of the human/animal co-actions, of the nutrition, of the health, of the bodily education, of the dance, of the sexuality and of other fragments of everyday life that invite to think about the complexity of the human being-in-the-world.

Fabrications: Designing for Silk in the Eighteenth Century
Joubert de la Hiberderie’s Le Dessinateur d’étoffes d’or, d’argent, et de soie (1765) was the first book to be published on textile design in Europe. In preparation for the publication of an English translation and critical edition of the text this one day conference calls for papers that will analyse, critique, contextualise, review or otherwise engage with the Le dessinateur in the light of its themes: production, design, technology, education, botany and art. Joubert’s manual argues for both a liberal and a technological education for the ideal designer. Such a person must, he argues, have detailed knowledge of the materials, technologies and traditions of patterned silk in order successfully to propose new designs; he or she must also have taste and an eye for beauty, which call, he says, for travel in order to see both the beauties of nature and those of art gathered in the gardens and galleries of Paris and the île de France.
