L’enquête qualitative par le biais de l’entretien est une des méthodes d’enquête les plus utilisées en sciences sociales, sinon la plus utilisée. Cet outil de recherche requiert compétences, subtilité et sensibilité et va bien au-delà de la simple conversation.

Archives, the Digital Turn and Governance in Africa

This featured section of History in Africa will address the wave of digitisation of archives in Africa over the last fifteen years. With the rise of information technologies, an increasing part of public – and to some extent private - African archives are being digitised and made accessible on the internet. This wave of digitisation is usually seen as a progress with the help of ambitious initiatives applying new technologies to cultural heritage of humanity such as the rescue of the manuscripts of Timbuktu or the Endangered Archives programme at the British Library. Yet as much as these new technologies raise enthusiasm, they also prompt discussions amongst researchers and archivists, which go from intellectual property to sovereignty and governance.

Trading Zones in Technological Societies

20 years of SPIRAL Research Centre

New developments, such as, for example, new genetic testing, digitized work environments, biobanks, 3D printed tissues or high-level radioactive waste, create promises and expectations, but also entail great uncertainty with regard to societal and political impacts. In this respect, we observe the development of imaginative and interdisciplinary dialogues pursuing multiple dimensions of possible outcomes and normatively evaluating such outcomes. In order to question and elaborate on the "trading zones" where such dialogues take place, we encourage submissions to present papers and/or posters on one of the three following subthemes: genomics and public health, safety and nuclear energy, and governance of the knowledge societies.

IFRIS welcomes STS scholars, historians, sociologists, political scientists, anthropologists, economists, people working on management sciences or law, and who work on the production, regulation and uses of science and technologies in societies. Research may concern a variety of issues including public health and biomedicine, agricultural sciences and food security, climate change, biodiversity and environmental questions, ICT, big data and internet, regimes of sciences and innovation in society, as well as theoretical questions.

Colonial geopolitics and local cultures in the Hellenistic and Roman East (IIIrd Century B.C. – IIIrd Century A.D.)

Géopolitique coloniale et cultures locales dans l'Orient hellénistique et romain (IIIe siècle av. J.-C. – IIIe siècle ap. J.-C.)

It seems clear that, in the Greek-speaking regions of the Roman Empire, Hellenistic models (civic, military or institutional) exercised considerable influence over “Italic” colonial projects. Within this field, relations between military colonists and indigenous peoples demand special attention, considering the degree of social, cultural, economic, political and geopolitical transformation brought about by the installation of certain groups upon those lands as a result of the will of the great power(s) that ruled over them. As for the Roman colonization, modern scholars have often described Roman colonies as vectors of Romanization inserted in alien lands, writing that these communities must have functioned as images of a “small Rome.” While the existence of Latin-speaking colonists ruled by a favorable juridical system such as the Ius Italicum cannot be denied, such a reductionist model can no longer be accepted without qualification, especially in the context of the Greek-speaking provinces of the Roman East. The regions of the Eastern Mediterranean world saw the coming of a number of groups of Roman colonists and thus their cultural climate, their agrarian structures and their geopolitical environment changed. The aim of this panel is to explore new research paths based on broader studies in time and space.

Les méthodes de synthèses de connaissances

Les outils de l'Evidence-Based Policy

Le Réseau des chercheurs en évaluation des politiques publiques de la Société française d’évaluation vous convie à un séminaire de recherche sur les méthodes de synthèses de connaissances, le 10 décembre 2012 à l’Université de Paris Dauphine, Amphithéâtre 11. La promotion des politiques publiques basées sur la preuve par un nombre croissant des gouvernements nationaux et d’organisations internationales soulève les questions de l’identification de connaissances disponibles sur les impacts des interventions publiques, de l’appréciation de leur crédibilité et finalement de leur synthèse pour éclairer la décision publique. A ce jour, deux méthodes reconnues ont émergé. La première emprunte aux outils de la « médecine des preuves » : revue systématique et la méta-analyse. La seconde, appelée synthèse réaliste, est inspirée des méthodologies des sciences sociales. Le séminaire de recherche, organisé avec l’aide de plusieurs partenaires, proposera une présentation et une discussion des méthodes disponibles (voir programme ci-dessous). Merci de noter que les présentations et échanges se feront exclusivement en anglais afin de faciliter le dialogue entre participants de différents pays. This conference aims to gather a set of contributions to the question of the collective subject of politics. The conference welcomes papers that present theoretical contributions to the debate as well as case studies gathered from any geographical space and from all historical periods. It is mainly – but in no way exclusively – directed at researchers from different disciplinary areas working on political thought and social movements. The working language of the conference is English. Those interested in presenting a paper at the conference should submit an abstract no longer than 300 words before the 31st of December 2011.

Marketing Strategies for Public Performance

Le secteur public a pour finalité de produire un impact sur son environnement. La performance publique se situe donc à l'interface de l'organisation publique et de son environnement et ne peut être mesurée ou gérée sur la seule base de ses ressources et activités internes. Justement, le marketing, entendu de manière extensive (Kotler, 1969), est en charge de gérer les relations d'une organisation avec l'ensemble de ses partenaires extérieurs. L'incorporation des dispositifs marketing dans les systèmes de mesure de la performance publique semble donc inéluctable, pour le meilleur et pour le pire. L'objectif de ce numéro spécial est de réunir des recherche empiriques focalisées sur les modalités et les effets de la mise en œuvre des démarches marketing dans le secteur public.

Les présentations explorent le droit colonial vis-à-vis du waqf en tant qu'institution mais aussi les propriétés leur appartenant dans le monde musulman avant l'indépendence des pays colonisés. Dans l'objectif d'étudier le droit qui s'y adaptait ou qui s'adaptait par rapport au waqf, les contributions se concentrent sur des mécanismes légaux innovateurs ou des discussions qui ont eu lieu dans les pays concernés à l'égard du statu quo de waqf au moment des interventions coloniales à la fin du XIXe et au début du XXe siècle.
