  Missions, musées et collections scientifiques : quand les missionnaires œuvraient à la cause de la science

  Ce projet de workshop international a pour ambition de réunir chercheurs et chercheuses en histoire, civilisation, philosophie, sociologie et anthropologie pour revenir sur les liens qui, aux XIX^e et XX^e siècles, ont pu se tisser entre missionnaires et scientifiques, et de manière plus large, entre missions et sciences.

  Relics @ the Lab

  1st International Workshop

  Scientists of many different disciplines are involved in the study of relics and kindred artefacts, but till now there was no real forum for these people to exchange ideas and discuss methods. Therefore the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA, Brussels) is organizing a two-day workshop on the scientific study of relics. During this meeting we want to give analytical scientists, textile specialists, conservators, anthropologists, historical researchers, people involved in 3D reconstruction as well as radiocarbon dating specialists a forum to exchange ideas about relics.

  Food and Hospitals

  An Historical Perspective

  While contemporary grumblings about hospital food have become the quintessential hospital complaint, it is undeniable that a clean, warm bed, rest and the provision of food and drink, rather than medicines and therapies have always greatly increased hospital patients’ chances of recovery. Indeed diet has from the time of Galen been a central part of medical therapy. However, even if central to the day-to-day routine of hospitals, workhouses and asylums, food and drink continue to be overlooked in historical accounts of hospitalisation. This conference aims to foreground the role of food and drink in health care institutions in the past.
