Ces dernières années, l'histoire du climat et la climatologie historique se sont essentiellement concentrées sur les impacts économiques et sociaux des changements climatiques de long terme, comme ceux qui se sont produits pendant l'Anomalie climatique médiévale ou le Petit âge glaciaire. Néanmoins, les préoccupations contemporaines concernant le changement climatique global ont posé de nouvelles questions urgentes aux historiens du climat : Comment les sociétés du passé ont-elles perçu les périodes de changement climatique rapide ? Dans quelle mesure ont-elles été affectées, non seulement sur le plan économique, mais aussi dans leur réflexion sur la relation entre l'homme et la nature ?

The 23th colloquium of the International Society for Board Game Studies will be held In Paris from 12 to 15 May 2020 in collaboration with the EXPERICE (University Paris 13) research center, Game in Lab and the LabEx ICCA. The Board Game Studies Colloquium is a platform aimed at bringing together game scholars from all fields, as well as independent researchers, curators, game inventors, collectors and enthusiasts from all around the world. The theme for this edition is “the Evolutions of Board Games”.

Dialogues in the Late Medieval Mediterranean
Methodological encounters and (dis)encounters
The aim of this workshop is to launch a methodological exchange forum to analyze the panorama of the late medieval Mediterranean from different and complementary perspectives. During the last years, an increased number of projects focused on the relations between East and West, Christianity and Islam or North Africa and Al-Andalus had emerged in the international scenario. In the framework of these current research projects, this workshop has been proposed to achieve two main objectives: to create a dialogue space to share the recent research results of these projects, as well as to establish new research networks integrated by senior and young researchers which allow the development of multidisciplinary research lines about the late Middle Ages.

Visible and invisible borders between Christians and Muslims in the Early Modern World
It has traditionally been argued that with the rise of the modern nation state, borders increasingly became lines demarcating the spatial limits of state power. Recent efforts have been made to re-examine this territorial argument and pay close attention to the social, cultural, political, economic, and religious networks that created, reinforced, and also traversed borderlands. Though war, conquest, and diplomacy repeatedly redrew the dividing lines between empires and kingdoms, extensive interactions and exchanges left the borderlands with deeply entangled roots and routes. These patterns, mechanisms, and forces had a deep impact on all aspects of life and are still felt today. Arguably, no single element has been more dominant in shaping this complex relationship than the regional historiographies and historical memories that tried to write the empires out of their pasts entirely.

Diffusion and reception from Late Antiquity to the Early Modern Period
The saints of Rome have always been among the most venerated and the most popular heavenly patrons in Christendom, grafting the noble air of universality and integration onto emerging Christian cultures. From the apostles and Early Christian martyrs through the Early Modern period and beyond, the textual and material dissemination of Roman saints made a significant impact on the rise of the cult of the saints. Post-Tridentine Roman cults spread by the Society of Jesus and the revival of catacomb cults brought a new wave in the world-wide cult of the saints of Rome in the early modern period.

Fifth European Conference on African Studies (ECAS 5)
Historiens, anthropologues et spécialistes de diverses disciplines sont invités à réfléchir ensemble sur les questions de production, transmission et preservation des documents administratifs et légaux de l’Afrique pré-coloniale. L’objectif de ce panel est d’initier un dialogue entre spécialistes travaillant sur les sources non narratives, que ce soit des actes de donation, des contrats, des chartes, des inscriptions funéraires ou tout autre document devenu « document d’archive ». Les présentations comportant un fort volet analytique et méthodologique seront préférées à des études de cas descriptives, afin de faciliter l’approche comparative. -

Toponymie et perception de l'espace en Égypte de l'Antiquité au Moyen Âge
La toponymie est un outil essentiel pour comprendre les liens entre l’espace égyptien et les différentes cultures qui s’y sont succédé. D’une part pour appréhender la manière dont cet espace était géré et organisé par les différents pouvoirs et d’autre part pour aborder la façon dont il était perçu. L’étude de la toponymie égyptienne sur le temps long – de l’Antiquité au Moyen Âge – permet ainsi d’envisager continuités et ruptures dans les différents systèmes toponymiques qui se sont superposés (administratifs, religieux) et / ou succédé (pharaonique, grec, copte, arabe) dans cet espace. Cette journée d’étude a pour objectif d’interroger, grâce à l’intervention de spécialistes du monde antique et médiéval, les processus de nomination à l’oeuvre dans la toponymie, ainsi que les mécanismes de gestion et d’appropriation des territoires de l’espace égyptien. -

Publiée en ligne sur le portail Revues.org depuis avril 2010, Afriques. Débats, méthodes et terrains d’histoire (http://afriques.revues.org) est la seule revue d’histoire à être consacrée à l’Afrique dite « ancienne », c’est-à-dire antérieure au XXe siècle. Pour son cinquième numéro thématique, prévu pour la fin de l’année 2012, Afriques lance un appel à contribution sur le thème : « Manger et boire en Afrique avant le XXe siècle. Cuisines, échanges, constructions sociales ». Published on line since April 2010 (http://afriques.revues.org), Afriques. Débats, méthodes et terrains d’histoire is the only journal devoted to the history of Africa before the 20th century. For its fifth thematic issue, scheduled for late 2012, Afriques is calling for papers on: “Eating and drinking in Africa before the 20th century: Cuisines, exchanges, social constructions”. -
