Heritage and experience design in the digital age

    5th hyperheritage international symposium

The term hyperheritage covers every hybrid cultural heritage environment augmented with digital information inviting us to explore new ways of perceiving, experiencing and practicing cultural heritage. Massive developments on ICT and the unprecedented spread of mobile, location-aware and immersive (augmented and virtual reality) technologies and devices, advocate for the exploration of new forms of human to human, human-computer and human-environment interaction and information communication on cultural heritage. These advances also imply gradually establishing new ways and means to comprehend, access, process, experience and perceive digital and interconnected cultural heritage information on a variety of delivery platforms, devices and environments.

PhD position in Chinese studies and cultural studies

This project will explore how young Chinese cosplayers engage with the public at large to express new identities in spaces that are heavily regulated by social and political censoring mechanisms. On the one hand, this doctoral research will explore the structural organisation of Chinese cosplay (associations, conventions); on the other hand, it will look into specific bodily performances in public spaces.

1660-1688: A Landmark Period in the History of British Sociability

Ideas and ways of heritage: Scientific thought, praxeology and social knowledge in patrimonialisation

Critical heritage studies have been popularized by way of various disciplines, and several recent studies have emphasized “the infinite specificity of heritage and patrimonialisation”, and at other times, the differentiated paradigms of heritagization, patrimonialisation, heritageification, etc During the session "Ideas and ways of heritage: Scientific thought, praxeology and social knowledge in patrimonialisation"  we will explore conceptions used in heritage-making, as they appear or are particularized in the scientific literature, local expertise and the collective intelligence in various regions of the world.

    Interdisciplinary strategies and collaborations

This seminar is the first of a series of three talks which will take place in each of the cities explored. It offers a space for collaboration, reflection and exchanges where explorers, partners, associate members and other leading figures are invited to lend an outside perspective. It is an invitation both to reflect on the project itself and to promote a public discussion of its critical perspectives. For instance, what is “knowledge” for an artist, a researcher or an educator, and how is it constructed ? For what discourse and representations are artists, researchers in the humanities and educators responsible ? What research stance should be adopted to meet the challenges of interdisciplinarity and social space ? How do our disciplines of research, creation and social intervention revisit the historical motive for exploration and what relationship do they have with it ?

Southeast Asian Cities’ Expressions of Modernity in Their Relation to Local Heritages

EuroSEAS Conference, Group 6: Popular culture, museums and heritage

The panel will explore spatial configurations created in these contexts, questioning the forms of modernity expressed by architectural and urban projects. With the purpose of challenging a general assumption according to which Asian and especially Southeast Asian urban landscapes affected by recent developments tend toward irremediable standardization and “Westernization”, the panel will explore local expressions of modernity through the examination of projects pointing to a reinterpretation of forms of local heritages.

The second International Congress on Ambiances is an international gathering for researchers, artists and players engaged in analyzing the ambiance-related dimensions of the built environment and in the sensory construction of the contemporary world. Many approaches are at work in the field of architectural and urban ambiance, and these multiple contributions nurture its rich diversity. The Congress aims to give voice to this activity, feeding on work exploring new forms of exchange between what is designed and what is experienced, between the measured and the qualified, the projected and the tested, the material and the immaterial. The Congress will be held for four days at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA), in Montreal, from 19 to 22 September 2012. It will seek to express advances in learning and new hypotheses proposed by the various disciplines and fields of activity which address the question of ambiances.
