Délinquances, crimes et répression dans l'histoire
La question de la délinquance, dans l’acception la plus générale du terme, se révèle particulièrement complexe car les criminologues, sociologues, psychologues, psychanalystes, médecins, juristes, historiens qui ont abondamment étudié ce sujet ont émis des opinions souvent très différentes, voire contradictoires. Les difficultés surgissent dès qu’il s’agit de qualifier le phénomène. En droit français, le mot délinquance désigne tous les types d’infractions. Celles-ci se répartissent en trois catégories : les contraventions qui constituent les infractions les plus légères, les délits qui se situent à un niveau intermédiaire et les crimes parmi lesquels on distingue les meurtres, homicides volontaires non prémédités, et les assassinats, homicides volontaires prémédités.

Clausewitz as a practical philosopher
Special Issue of the Philosophical Journal of Conflict and Violence
Clausewitz, still perhaps the most important and referenced theorist of war, was deeply influenced by the thought and philosophy of his own time. Although Clausewitz rejected an abstract philosophy of war, he highlighted that his approach was a philosophical attempt to understand war. His “wondrous trinity,” as well as his dialectics of defense and offense are essentially hybrid conceptualizations. By elaborating the philosophical foundations of Clausewitz’s theory, this special issue aims to contribute to a better understanding of the ongoing transformation of war and violent action in a globalized world.

Politiques et géopolitiques de la traduction
Circulation multilingue des savoirs et histoires transnationales de la géographie
Durant les cinquante dernières années, le champ de l’histoire de la géographie a connu un mouvement de transformation de ces approches, passant d’une lecture par les écoles nationales à une appréhension par la circulation des savoirs et des connaissances à différentes échelles. L’histoire des sciences et de la géographe a ainsi incorporé des concepts tels que « transit », « reseaux », « mobilités», « transferts », « circulations », « centres de calcul », « espaces de connaissance », « géographie des sciences », « mobilité spatiale de la connaissance », « geographies de la lecture et du livre », etc. Plus récemment, un tournant a émergé, qui considère les dynamiques et les nécessités de décoloniser l’histoire de la géographie et de la production de savoirs géographiques. Cette thématique apparaît aujourd’hui comme l’une des plus actives dans le champ de l’histoire de la géographie.

ReThinking Europe in Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea Region
The 11th annual international conference on Nordic and Baltic Studies
Brexit has just happened and its consequences are not yet fully comprehended. Would the outcome be a return to a status quo ante the Brentry of 1 January 1973 in British-EU relations? Would Britain become a sort of bigger Norway tightly connected to the EU, but yet not fully a member of the united organization? Would Britain really continue to exist as such? Would Scotland, not to mention other territories, emulate London and decide on their own Brexit, this time from the United Kingdom, in order to rejoin the EU? Would actually Brexit become a pathway for other skeptical EU nations? Would Brexit rocket exclusive forms of nationalisms? Would the whole of united Europe collapse, on the long run, as a result of Brexit as the League of Nations had become toothless after the US Senate had vetoed the Pact of League of Nations? But what effect is going to have Brexit on Scandinavian countries which historically have been closely connected to Britain? How is it reflected in Scandinavian intellectual milieus, in mass-media, in public discourses? What about the Baltic states which received a strong support from Britain in key moments of their history, for instance when Royal Navy came at the rescue of Estonian and Latvian independence following World War I or in the process of re-enactment of Baltic sovereignty after the collapse of the Soviet Union? Mixed arbitral tribunals, 1919–1930
An experiment in the international adjudication of private rights
The creation of a system of Mixed Arbitral Tribunals (MATs) was a major contribution of the post-WWI peace treaties to the development of international adjudication. Numerically speaking, the 36 MATs were undoubtedly the busiest international courts of the interwar period. Taken together, they decided on more than 70,000 cases, mostly covering private rights. The MATs are similarly remarkable from a procedural point of view. First, their respective rules of procedure were so detailed that contemporaries described them as 'miniature civil procedure codes'. Second, in a departure from most other international courts and tribunals, they also allowed individuals whose rights were at stake to become involved in the proceedings before them.

Para su 11a edición, RITA proponer interrogar en su sección temática Thema los vínculos entre poder y medios de comunicación en las Américas. Varias pistas de reflexión pueden ser evocadas sin por lo tanto ser exclusivas. Naturalmente, los artículos que traten del análisis crítico de medios oficiales o de los medios de oposición serán bienvenidos. Otras contribuciones podrán estudiar los efectos de los diferentes tratos mediáticos reservados a los movimientos populares. También esperamos análisis críticos de los vínculos entre medios y poderes económicos. El dossier temático también podrá integrar reflexiones sobre la reciente diversificación de los medios de información, focalizándose por ejemplo en el surgimiento de medios “alternativos” en Internet, o tratando del poder de los fake news en la construcción de representaciones colectivas.

Politics of epistemic vulnerability in the nuclear age
Nuclear choices commit populations and societies for at least decades and can cause large scale damage in a very short period of time. How is the scope of available nuclear choices decided then? When it comes to weapons, direct experience cannot be the answer as no one can rely on personal experience of nuclear war. Most decision-makers no longer even have the experience of the effects of such weapons either given that North Korea has been the only country testing nuclear weapons since 1998. The populations’ wishes do not qualify either, since they are very rarely consulted and only few studies on those attitudes exist.Therefore this multi-year seminar investigates the grounds on which the scope of publicly acceptable nuclear choices have been based since the end of nuclear testing.

Les relations Europe-Arabie (XIXe-XXIe siècle)
Ce colloque international s’intéressera aux liens entre l’Europe et la péninsule Arabique à l’époque contemporaine, depuis les débuts de la mondialisation de l’âge industriel jusqu’aux derniers développements économiques et stratégiques contemporains. Leur comparaison ainsi que l’étude du contenu et de l’évolution des échanges sont un moyen de mieux comprendre ce qui relie l’Europe et la péninsule Arabique. Pour étudier à la fois le contenu des échanges et leur évolution, deux axes seront privilégiés : les relations culturelles et scientifiques en lien avec l’évolution des regards mutuels du XIXe au XXIe siècle ; l’évolution des relations économiques du XIXe au XXIe siècle.

Post, counter or simply hegemony?
Political thought and International Relations 30 years after “Hegemony and Socialist Strategy”
In 2015, 30 years will have passed since the publication of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe’s “Hegemony and Socialist Strategy”. Since its first appearance, this text has become a reference point for theoretical reflection in the Social Sciences ― particularly for left leaning academics―, for its revival of theoretical debate around the notion of hegemony. Gramscian, poststructuralist and deconstructionist influences are intertwined in the theoretical political proposal of these authors. They attempt to move beyond classic Marxism, and class reductionism, to formulate an alternative to the neoliberal paradigm. Agonism and radical democracy are the principal theoretical and practical innovations emerging thanks to the work of these authors.

Common Experiences, Common Desires ? Tracing an Intellectual History between China and Africa
Conférence ANR Espaces de la culture chinoise en Afrique (EsCA)
In his 1954 presentation to dignitaries from across Asia and Africa, Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai acknowledged the differences between the two cultural spheres; nevertheless, Zhou stressed, a more important factor in all future relations should be the “common experiences and desires” of people from across the two continents to create a new world from the ashes of war and colonialism. Building on Zhou’s insight into commonalities of experience, this presentation will trace the cultural intersections that have existed between China and African since the 1920s.

L'axe de recherche « Nation et mondialisation » a notamment privilégié un programme pluridisciplinaire relatif à l’analyse des élites. D’un point de vue politologique, il concerne l’analyse comparative des représentants politiques au sein des démocraties européennes et d’autre part celle de la symbolique, appréhendée notamment du point de vue des rituels politiques. Dans une perspective davantage sociologique, il ambitionne de favoriser le développement d’études comparatives autour de la question de la distinction élitiste, y compris avec le concours d’historiens ou d’anthropologues susceptibles d’introduire, pertinemment, des dimensions temporelles et culturelles. -

Créé en 2008, le Groupe d'histoire des organisations internationales rassemble des spécialistes en sciences sociales et des archivistes travaillant dans des organisations internationales. En ce sens, il constitue un forum unique au monde de rencontres et de discussions sur l'histoire de ces organismes internationaux et sur la question des sources d'archives en leur possession. Pour l'année académique 2009-2010, le Groupe d'histoire des organisations internationales organise une série de conférences où seront traitées différentes thématiques en lien avec l'histoire et les activités des organisations internationales. Ces conférences sont ouvertes à toute personne intéressée. -
