Education and Society at a Turning Point

Since 2008, the Conseil Européen pour les Langues / European Language Council (CEL/ELC) has hosted a Forum every two years. These Fora seek to bring together representatives of higher education institutions, of European institutions and organisations, such as, for example, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of Europe, and of European associations like the European University Association (EUA) as well as scholars with a special interest in European integration, policy development, and multilingualism. At the centre of 2020 discussions will be the role that Higher Education can and should play in the promotion and development of multilingualism as a key aspect of European cooperation – related to facets such as language policy, internationalisation, language and knowledge, education and mobility, to mention just a few. In this context, participants will also reflect on the future role of the CEL/ELC by identifying and analysing new challenges that have arisen in our changing world.

The Summer School is aimed at Master’s students, PhD students, young researchers, scholars and practitioners in the area of second language learning and teaching who already engage in or would like to become involved in theatre/drama activities and research into these. The Summer School will be divided into morning seminars, in which examples of good practice and research methodology will be presented by experts in the field. The afternoon sessions, instead will be devoted to practical workshop activities. The last morning will consist of a round table where participants will be encouraged to reflect on possible future collaboration and projects.

Focusing on the works by Leone (1909-1944) and Natalia Ginzburg (1916-1991) the Summer School is dedicated to a reflection on the authors’ contribution to the 20th century Italian and European history. Besides a critical analysis of their creative and intellectual activity and their civic engagement, the participants will have the opportunity to debate the role both Leone and Natalia had in the publishing house Einaudi, and to experiment new methods of teaching literature. Au croisement du linguistique et de l’éducatif, du social et du politique, le Séminaire doctoral international réunit chaque année des enseignants-chercheurs et de jeunes chercheurs concernés par l’appropriation et la transmission des langues et des cultures. Conçu comme un outil de formation à la recherche, à l’initiative du monde académique, au bénéfice des professionnels impliqués dans la diffusion et l’enseignement des langues, fondé sur l’échange scientifique entre jeunes chercheurs, universitaires et experts confirmés, en présentiel, par un dispositif de visio-conférence ou par une plate-forme d’échange, le Séminaire propose d’engager la réflexion scientifique internationalisée par un programme incitatif comportant des conférences plénières de chercheurs de premier plan issus de champs disciplinaires complémentaires et des ateliers consacrés à la présentation par les jeunes chercheurs de leurs travaux. Les langues de travail sont le français et l’anglais.

The Place of Ethics in the Teaching of Languages for Special Purposes

S’adressant à des étudiants spécialistes d’autres disciplines, les enseignants de langues du secteur LANSAD contribuent à la formation de futurs professionnels. Faire acquérir à leurs apprenants les clés de la langue-culture d’un milieu professionnel est l’une de leurs missions. L’éthique fait partie du savoir-être et des codes professionnels, elle implique l’individu comme l’entreprise. Cependant, des questions se posent, notamment : quelle place doit-elle occuper dans le contenu de l’enseignement des langues ? À quel moment faut-il l’introduire ? Avec quels outils et méthodes ? Des questions pratiques se posent : quel(s) moment(s) de la formation, quels outils et méthodes sont les plus favorables à la mise en place des apprentissages liés à l’éthique ? L’évaluation et la certification peuvent-elles prendre en compte la compétence éthique des apprenants – selon quels critères ? Quelles compétences doit posséder l’enseignant lui-même ?

Teaching Arabic to Non Arabic Speakers : Diverse Experiences

L’idée du colloque est de confronter des expériences d’enseignement de la langue arabe aux non arabophones dans les établissements supérieurs aussi bien européens que ceux du monde arabe à travers deux axes : un axe historique et institutionnel de l’enseignement et des formations en arabe portant sur les voies lesquelles il s'est institionnalisé dans les différentes traditions d'enseignement des langues étrangères; un axe linguistique et didactique où l’on s’interrogera sur les choix pédagogiques qui sont faits dans les formations, à travers les différentes expériences. Les langues du colloque sont le français, l’anglais et l’arabe.
