Envisioning Latin America: Power and Representation in audiovisual (re)productions
This issue seeks to critically address power structures in audiovisual (re)productions in and from Latin America and discuss how these play a role in the societal construction and representation of individual and collective identities, the ‘us’ and the ‘other’. By doing so, it aims at understanding how these representations – and broader discourses associated therewith – can be critically examined through media productions (cinema, television, radio, photography etc.) and their use as historical sources.

Under the concepts of justice and spatial injustices, Cuadernos de Geografía: Revista Colombiana de Geografía opens a call for contributions, research results and reflections framed in the following areas: Institutional and informal expressions of spatial (in)justices in recent and ancient contexts of violence and peace building; The new forms of economic production and its socio-environmental consequences: spatial (in)justices in political ecology debates; Spatial justice and struggles for recognition. Questioning Spaces of Citizenship in Latin America and the Caribbean
Latin American History Graduate Student Conference
Scholars often invoke citizenship as an analytic frame to understand the history of Latin America and the Caribbean. While the concept can encompass a broad range of topics, this conference will focus on the spaces where individuals and groups come into contact with the institutions and symbols of the state. These spaces may be physical places, institutional settings, discursive realms, or other fora. In this graduate student conference, we will ask how such spaces of citizenship are constructed, delimited, and at times rejected, and how the terms of interaction and negotiation in these spaces are defined and re-defined.

IRD Chaires croisées project, call for proposals 2010
Le programme Chaires croisées a été instauré en 2007 afin de promouvoir des démarches scientifiques d’excellence dans le domaine de la recherche pour le développement. Une chaire croisée réunit deux chercheurs ou enseignants-chercheurs confirmés, l’un du Nord, l’autre du Sud. Le « croisement » n’implique pas un échange de postes mais un échange d’idées et d’activités autour d’un projet de recherche et de formation commun élaboré en partenariat avec une unité de recherche de l’IRD. La durée du financement est d’un an, renouvelable une fois.
