The World Conference on Qualitative Research (WCQR) is an annual event that aims to bring together researchers, academics and professionals, promoting the sharing and discussion of knowledge, new perspectives, experiences and innovations on the field of qualitative research. It encourages the submission of scientific works that focus on several fields of application in qualitative research, from education to health, social sciences, engineering and technology, among others.

School and national identities in French-speaking Africa
Political choices, means of transmission and appropriation
This volume on schools and national identities in French-speaking Africa will be published in the Routledge series “Perspectives on Education in Africa”. The aim of this volume is to provide an in-depth and transdisciplinary understanding of the role of school in the various processes of identity-building, and to showcase research from and about countries outside the former British empire, either as individual case studies or through a comparative framework within or beyond the continent. It will include contributions focusing on the multiple and changing role of schools in the construction of collective identities and the (re)production of national imaginings in francophone Africa. It will also consider how different actors (media, diasporas, social networks, religious communities) shape the appropriation, formulation and implementation of curriculums and discourses about education.

Pioneering women and men in European adult education (XIXth and early XXth centuries)
European Seminar of the network History of adult education and training in Europe (ESREA)
The aims of this European seminar are: To explore biographical trajectories of theorists, initiators, and activists of various forms of adult education, and to analyze what led them to become "pioneers" in adult education; To identify new figures, more particularly women pioneers, who, up to now, have not been recognized to the same extent as men; To provide the basis for a European biographical dictionary, listing or documenting not only biographical notes, but also reflecting on different issues by the papers.

15th May 1968: the Odeon theatre in Paris is occupied by students and becomes the insurgent headquarters where every night militants recount the days' action in occupied factories to an audience of people camping in the auditorium. Youth rebellion was never as mythologised as that of the French students’ fight against institutional oppression. The effects were felt across the Channel, too – but the nature of those effects was, and remains, disputed. 50 years on… where are we? What remains of autogestion and emancipatory education? What remains of theatre inventiveness and sedition? What remains of a need for participatory audiences? What remains of utopia and dissent?

Printing and misprinting: Typographical mistakes and publishers’ corrections (1450-1600)
This one-day symposium – opening with a keynote lecture by Anthony Grafton (Princeton) – aims to explore the notions of typos and manuscript or stop-press emendations in early modern print shops. Building on Grafton’s seminal work, scholars are invited to present new evidence on what we can learn from misprints in relation to publishers’ practices, printing and pre-publication procedures, and editorial strategies between 1450 and 1600.

Seminario internacional de CORPUS (Grupo Internacional de Estudios Culturales sobre el Cuerpo)
El presente seminario se inscribe en la continuidad del simposio Cuerpos en acción. La bioculturalidad de la vida cotidiana que se organizó en el marco del IV Congreso latinoamericano de antropología (México, 2015). Invitamos a participar en este seminario Bioculturalidad de la vida cotidiana a investigadores interesados en el estudio del cuerpo, de la corporeidad humana, de las técnicas del cuerpo, de las articulaciones entre acción corporal y cultura material, de las co-acciones hombre/animal, de la nutrición, de la salud, de la educación corporal, de la danza, de la sexualidad y de otras parcelas de la vida cotidiana que invitan a pensar la complejidad del estar en el mundo humano.

Women in Educated Elites of Pre-Socialist and Early Socialist East Central European Societies
The opening up to modernity of East Central Europe since the late 19th century was marked – among other things – by a triple process generating structural transformations of established post-feudal societies and affecting often radically the status of women. Due to post-feudal conditions of competition for social standing, positions of influence and prestige, hitherto unknown forms of inequalities appeared in the very process of accumulation of political, economic, professional, cultural an educational assets henceforth necessary for the access to the elites. Female professionals, though they could rarely achieve advanced careers in the ruling elites in the old regime, so much so that they often encountered even various forms of public rejection and discrimination on intellectual markets, significantly participated in the framing of the way of life of the new middle class. This workshop will adopt a gender-focused perspective cocentrating on the place of women (training, education, professions) and bringing to light the differences and inequalities existing between male and female members of educated elites.

Historical Development of National Systems of Elite Formation in Eastern and Central Europe
This workshop is bringing together specialists from mostly Eastern Europe together with some West European partners, capable and liable of sharing their localised research expertise in the study of the birth and initial development of national systems of elite training in a number of (mostly but not exclusively) small East Central European societies. All of them have very concrete empirical research agendas and records in these fields, but separately, applied to their own national societies. The idea of the meeting is born from the need of and the interest in comparing – in many thematic issues term by term – research findings, insights and questions gained from studies of the training, career and activities of various East European elite groups during the decades up to the Soviet take-over. -

Colloque international de clôture de l'équipe ANR « Formasynd »
Les communications devront s’inscrire dans trois axes principaux de réflexion. L’un porte sur la construction et la mise en œuvre de dispositifs de formation dans lesquels les enjeux de la syndicalisation, et plus largement de la diversification des publics-cible du syndicalisme, sont posés. Le second interroge les usages individuels et collectifs qui peuvent être faits de ces formations. Le troisième oriente le regard sur la circulation des savoirs entre les organisations syndicales et d’autres champs de réflexion sur le salariat, le travail et les relations professionnelles. Dans la construction historique du problème social que constitue la violence juvénile, que celle-ci soit exercée ou subie, le rôle de l’expertise est primordial. La violence, phénomène intime et social, étroitement associé avec l’état de jeunesse, oscille entre l’objectivité de ses manifestations et la subjectivité de sa perception. Elle se mesure à l’aune de son énoncé dans la sphère publique. L’expert, agissant au cœur ou à la lisière du système institutionnel de protection de la jeunesse, peut être celui qui recueille cette expression et celui qui la met en forme. Ainsi, l’expérience de la violence chez les jeunes est médiatisée par les formes de discours savants que produisent les experts. -

La Chaire de science des religions de l'Université de Fribourg organise une conférence de deux jours sur les aspects historiques et sociopolitiques de l'enseignement religieux. Cette conférence met l'accent sur l'importance de la recherche sur l'enseignement religieux pour comprendre l'évolution des relations entre Etat, communautés religieuses et société civile.La conférence aura lieu à Fribourg (Suisse) le 25 et le 26 juin 2010. Projet éditorial pour les éditions Autrement, sur le thème « Jeunes, jeunesses et sexualités » à l'époque contemporaine et très contemporaine, avec comité de lecture.Alors que l’histoire et la sociologie de la jeunesse sont clairement installées dans le paysage académique occidental, et que les études sur le genre et la sexualité se développent nettement depuis plusieurs décennies, le croisement des deux thématiques reste encore très rare. Elles sont pourtant récurrentes dans l’imaginaire social et les représentations, dans l’actualité sans doute également.
